  1. I too just squirt on as much as id use of normal shampoo (for both puppy and ponies). That 10 minutes seems like forever when you have a sulky puppy sitting in the laundry trough giving you the stink eye.
  2. I won't repeat what every one else has said because i'm sure you understand now. Please consider whether you can do the right thing by this pup and accomodate what HE needs or give the pup back. Poor little saussage.
  3. Our puppy got these at 4 months. Vet decided it was a secondary infection to an allergic reaction. He went on a course of antibiotics for 10 days and they cleared up. I would take her to the vet - but first have a realllly good think about what else has happened - has she been somewhere new, a park, beach etc? Met and played with a new dog? Taken her to someones house? Have you recently washed her bedding and in what detergent? Has she had any new treats?
  4. I read somewhere also the 5min per month of age (but in saying that i wouldn't be "exercising" a pup much younger than 4 months). Our Staffy pup goes for leisurely walks most days for 20 - 25min, he loves it, it isn't stressfull on him and he's learning to walk on his lead really nicely.
  5. So glad you seem to have found the cause of it! Our pup doesn't eat straight after a walk either.
  6. If she's burrying them instead of eating i'd also be inclined to think she's just not hungry? I can send you over some of Arby's appetite if you like, he's certainly got enough to go around ;) It's said that a healthy dog won't starve its self. I'd say keep doing what you're doing and don't encourage her to be picky by giving her the fancy stuff if she doesn't eat the regular meal. I think we often force our views of whats good for the dog on to it, if she is self regulating her diet it must be for a reason! Alternatively i guess it couldn't hurt to take her to the vets and get some blood work done to see if she's lacking in anything that could be contributing to the lack of appetite (if you're really worried!)
  7. My staffy pup was 12kg at 4 months (and is 14.5 at 5 months now.. the vet thinks he could lose a bit). If your little one is happy, has energy and doesn't look lacking in any other area i wouldn't be TOO worried. Have you tried giving her some raw yummy meat? Our pup LOVES his chicken wings (once he worked out how to eat them!)
  8. Hi Dol'ers, My puppy has been diagnosed with mites (demodex). I'm quickly learning a lot about these little critters. He has medicine from the Vet which will hopefully kill the mites, however i'd like to also give him something to help his immune system (my understanding of mites is that most dogs, especially puppies, have mites but that they only cause problems when the pup's immune system is compromised allowing them to spread at take over!). Though mites sounds a bit yuck, I'm glad we finally have an answer as to what it is (we did an elimination diet, environment etc). I'd love to hear some suggestions on what i can give him to help his body out. His diet is good and is fed a combination of dry / tinned / raw of good quality. He is an SBT and almost 5 months old. (Pic enjoying his weekly Malaseb bath...not) All the best, Kirby & Arby
  9. Where's "only on my face" I don't like the feeling of being licked, however when Arby was a tiny pup our little thing was "kisses for mummy" when i put him to bed, he licks my chin just once. He's 4.5months now and we still do it :D
  10. Our pup has one of those but he hasn't broken it like that! (yet?) He goes crazy in it and does "dig" in it in the corners too. He has a rash that we're trying to clear up so he has his clam pool taken off him so digs in his water bowl instead
  11. I put dislike cats, but i don't hate them, and i wouldn't go out of my way to hurt one or be mean to it. If i saw one in trouble i'd help it of course! I'm allergic to cats and not keen on the personalities of those ive met, i wouldn't ever buy one.
  12. This is great for ideas Arby has a rawhide Bon-Bon to open so far but i want to get him some new toys (can any one recommend some a staffy pup might like) and a new collar as his little puppy collar is just about let out all the way now.
  13. Our 4.5month old Staffy pup is on three meals a day still. I think he will stay that way until 6 or so months. (Ok sometimes its two if im stuck with a client all afternoon and don't get home for lunch, but it is rare). Meals aren't a specific time - breakfast is 0700 to 0740ish. Lunch is 1230 to 1400ish and dinner 1800 to 1900 ish. Depends on what other stuff is happening. He doesn't sook or whine for his food, and he's not allowed to carry on while im dishing it up either.
  14. I got my sample last week and Arby loved it, we've gone ahead and ordered the 3kg bag (as there's no distributor up here in Darwin )
  15. Thanks Raffikki, i didn't think of the greyhound club. I have sent them an email so hoepfully they will be able to recommend someone Persephone - I wish it was but he is definately a banana (though i do love the way you described the crazy excited wiggly waggy walk!)
  16. Definately lots of treats once hes let you put it on (though maybe not in your work clothes right before you walk about the door?) One for Trinabean - i couldn't find any rainbow noses on this laptop but how about a pink nose? (On a stallion!)
  17. All my ponies have pink skin on their noses and get rainbow zinc in summer
  18. I agree, zinc stick works well on pink noses and lasts a lot longer / is thicker. Bjazld, you're telling me you've never gone crazy with it and given them rainbow noses?! So much funnier than white
  19. We got one of those pens from ozskyway on Ebay for our Staffy puppy (but bigger i think ours was a 40"?) We only used it when he was inside with us but to stop him from running all over the house before he was fully house trained. We used it from 8 weeks - 14 weeks (at which time he was about 10kg at 14 weeks). It was actually very sturdy and did the job great. if its inside not pegged down sure it moves a little if they flop down against it but they're not going to tip it over or get out of it in a hurry. i was very happy with ours and did the job.
  20. I'm glad you made this thread, ive been thinking about purchasing the sensitve skin one for my puppy
  21. It IS most noticeable when he is excited, but he does it when he's just ambling along as well. Finding a chiro in Darwin is proving difficult!
  22. Ive never fed Livamol to a dog but when we feed it to the horses it generally has a darkening effect on the coat. I'd say the orange is sun bleaching
  23. Thanks for the info everyone, it is much easier to research when i know what it's called! Funnily "puppy moves like a banana" doesn't yield much usefull info! If i can find a chiro in Darwin i will definately get him looked at. I know with the ponies uneven movement that's not dealt with can cause all sorts of related problems down the track so it has me a little concerned. He is certainly not a show animal just a well loved pet but i don't want him to have problems down the track that could have been avoided
