  1. The reasons why I hate shock collars on dogs.
  2. Dont cook his food. Raw is best. Vegies can be part cooked if dog desires. Dont feed corn or peas. Now this is from a Staffy breeder I know, and it works for my two itchy dogs, Sunflower Oil. Add this to his diet. Probably a teaspoon everyday until its manageable and then every so often, twice-three times a week. No harm in trying. Might take a couple of months to work. This has left an oil on my dogs skin and I find that I dont have to wash them often. I use Quit-Itch for their baths.
  3. I have a friend who breeds SBT and I explained to her how I was having trouble trying to control Millie (TT) and Tiffany (Chi) itchies. She said to me to add Sunflower Oil to the diet. Now I know it might not work on some dogs but I can say in the last 6 months of trying it, it really does work. I dont use much, probably a tablespoon in their mix. I have five dogs, so a tablespoon between five is not much. And maybe twice, three times a week. I am a BARF feeder and the other days of the week they are having RMBs. So now my routine is bath with Quit-Itch and add Sunflower Oil to the diet.
  4. Have you tried Pestene Powder? You can treat everything with this. Kennels, bedding, even lawns. http://www.thevetshed.com/catalog/product_...roducts_id=1152
  5. Umm, my dogs go out for a wee when they tell me. Before food and after food. If they do it, fine. If not, then they stay out a bit longer. 2.00am in the morning thats fine. Ummm. WOW.
  6. I dont see any problems. How much are you feeding him. Is he losing weight? WTF............
  7. Thanks guys for your kind words. Anne, yes, getting there. Everyday is getting a little better. Thanks.
  8. Born 09 April 2001 Deceased 19 August 2006. Amber gave up her battle yesterday afternoon. She lasped into a coma and never came through. Pancreatitis with severe complications. My sweet little angel, run free in heaven. I will see you soon, one day. Thank you for sharing your last four years with me and your family. God bless you my sweet little baby. Your sister Tiffany misses you deeply. R.I.P. Amber.
  9. Hard to say how much it costs. I have 5 little ones ranging from 3.6kg - 10kgs. It can costs me $1.25 per day (4 chicken frames for a dollar) to $15.00 or $30.00 per month. It depends on how lucky or unlucky I am that week/month. Once I got 4 chicken frames for .04cents. Silly supermarket weigh scales were off wack and they put them on the shelves. So I picked up all of the packets. Only three. Of course they have to sell them at that price.
  10. Could be just the flora in the gut has gone wrong. Infection in the gut maybe? Got any yohgurt on hand until the vet visit?
  11. I was told my a Staffy breeder I know, that good ole Sunflower oil was good for itchies. I am currently trying this out. Just two tablespoon per week for 5 dogs mixed in their meals. :D Roll on summer.
  12. Do you tie up the ears when you use the ear drops? This helps to let in air to dry them out. Hairbands work wonders.

  14. My guys are always fed after the family. For me it is better that way. I sometimes have unusual hours and its nothing for us to be sitting down for meals between 5.00pm to midnight. I dont care if they watch but they dont come into the kitchen. We have the word 'line' and they know that they have to be on the otherside of the metal carpet strip. Sometimes they test us, but its 'line' and they know where they have to go. Sometimes they will sit in the lounge and wait. But if I am going out for tea and I dont leave until say 7.00pm, then I will feed them before I go.

  16. None of the topics apply to me. And I cant answer more than one question. I feed BARF. And this can be raw chicken mince and vegies, raw beef and vegies, raw fish or a combination or all three. I use all of the above. But not at the same time.
  17. Dogs with mucousy poos is usually from eating something that takes a bit of working through the intestines. The intestines will produce mucous to push everything through nicely. My guys get this when they have had a heavy chicken neck meal. Lots of bones, therefore the intestines have to work harder. If its for every poo and there is bloody, then this is a sign of something that a vet needs to check out.
  18. Yup. My chihuahuas love them heaps.

  20. Just cut the quantity down. It wont hurt them. They will look hungry for awhile, believe me, I know. And you will swear you are starving them. With my dogs I give them 100gms. If I think they are going to put on weight it goes down to 800gms. Then back up to 100gms. No Jim, Tiffany doesnt get this amount. You should see what I feed my overweight Chihuahua. And slowly but slowly she is losing weight. Yes Jim, she is getting there. She is not pleading with me, so thats a good sign. ;)
  21. Hi, dont expect the sardines to work over night. Can take a week or two to really set in. I found out why my Millie was itching (I think). I had run out of Cod Liver Oil and didnt buy any for two weeks. (bad mummy I know). Anyways, I've been making sure its in her diet every night now and she hasnt scratch as much as before. I think I will be buying at least two bottles from now on.
  22. I feed a BARF diet basically based on Dr Billinghurst and Dr Tom Lonsdale theories. I have adapted to my own diet now and often refer back to these two books for references. I find that your dogs are more fuller and you feed much less than can food. I did start fresh with their teeth. Had them cleaned by the vet. But their teeth are more shiny than ever before. And their number '2's' are much smaller and less smellier than before, thats for sure. Of course its better than those can foods and dry foods. I have an 9 year old Maltese X who was really feeling her age. 12months on this diet and you can see the difference in her. She is even out running Milly my 3 yr old. Regarding the air conditioner, open up the front where the filter is and see if its not clogged. Give it a good clean. And any loose dust in the area will definately move around and cause your dogs to sneeze.
  23. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed their dog more itchy this year than last year. I use Quit-Itch on my two dogs. One inside dog, the other outside. Inside dog is fine no problems, just Milly, my TT who is outside. I've been letting the kids handle the dog washing this summer due to back problems and after seeing Milly scratching like nuts the other day, I have taken over the washing. I dont know what is causing the itchies more this year, but I can put it down to heat. Hotter this year than last year, thats for sure. I do remember to use tepid water when bathing your dogs in any solution. As the hotter the water the more prone it is to more itchies. Have the water as cool as possible. Like when we bath a baby, the elbow temperature test. I also leave the solution in for 10 minutes tops. I get my son to set the microwave timer for this. And I will be washing Milly every two days until I get this back under control. For days in between, I use Quit-Itch with a cotton ball straight from the bottle, on the itchies sores. Sort of like what Calamine does. I have even got her on Phenergan this time, vets advice. 1ml to 2ml, twice a day. And Millys itchies is not related to her white coloured skin/fur. Its her black spots that are affected and underneath. We have no grass/weeds to worry about. With this drought everything is dead.
  24. Well thats strange. I have a dog wash that has Eculyptus in it. Martha Gardiner once said in an old posts of hers, that if you washed your dog in the Wool Mix be sure not to get it in their face, mouth or nose area. Need to do some snooping.
