  1. We are having a bad run at the moment. Our other CKCS nearly 14 yo girl Lucy was diagnosed with acute renal failure & kidney stones around 3 weeks ago. Leading up to the diagnosis she had gone off her food on/off but still drinking water. Vet said as long as she is eating and drinking all is ok. She is in visible pain & on painkillers and has lost so much weight I can count the bones in her spine. She refuses to eat anything but chicken which I know is not ideal but even then sometimes that's a stretch. Yesterday she ate nothing. This morning she ate a good amount. Enough to get some meds in her anyway. She is very wobbly on her feet so I can't walk her. The vet seems to think that this is from a sudden onset of arthritis which she has never had so I'm more inclined to think its part of her kidney disease. We said to each other when she started refusing food again we would put her to sleep. So we decided that last night but after she ate this morning now I don't know. I need someone to please tell me what to do. What would you do?
  2. Gosh it has been so long since I have posted on this site. On fathers day our beloved 13yo girl CKCS Zara woke up screaming in pain and unable to put weight on her front paw. We rushed her to the emergency vet who did a thorough check up on her. She came to the conclusion that she has a slipped disc in her neck. Gave us anti inflammatories & pain killers and advised us to give her strict rest. She is in a tremendous amount of pain even with the painkillers & cries throughout the night whenever she moves. When I am at home all she wants is to be cuddled. Its heartbreaking. I'm off the our regular vet tomorrow to get more of her heart medication for her heart murmour & I'm going to ask for stronger pain killers but just wondering if anyone has any experience with a dog recovering from this at her age?
  3. Firsttimecavmum I have sent you a PM I have an oddball Ruby cavalier who is a growler amongst other things
  4. Hi Dappledgrey Have you looked at the breeders section on the dol website? I think there are a few breeders in Victoria? The good? Everthing. They worm their way into your heart & you'll wonder how you ever lived without one :) The bad? They are addictive!!  One is never enough! Oh & the fur... they drop ALOT of fur. A good vacuum is a necessity!
  5. What suburb are you in? A close friend of mine offers a dog sitting service in middle swan area
  6. My girls both stay outside when we are at work. I only work 3 days a week though. When I'm not at work and need to go out for a few hours I leave them inside. They have access to a doggy door. When they are outside they have access to a daybed and or a kennel under a large pergola which they both fit in.
  7. Mine have a few... Whenever I come home from work and let them both inside they race upstairs & do zoomies. Everytime I lay on my bed Zara thinks its an invitation for Zara to cuddle - smother style.. on my face  If I sit on the couch, Lucy jumps in my lap Morning time - they both wake up my son Dinner/breakfast - Zara will wait outside patiently whenever she thinks she should be fed.
  8. I feed mine Royal Canin cavalier in the morning - 1/3 cup & then at night I feed them raw - chicken wings/frames or turkey wings :)
  9. OMG.. I love it! I want it! I found it on their website.. http://shop.dangerfield.com.au/girls/clothing/dresses/101-dress-season-aw15-from-98-00.html So tempted to buy it!

    Cherry

I am so sorry to you & your family over the loss of little Cherry
  13. Both my girls are spoilt. I don't even call them dogs. They are my "girls"  During the day when I'm at work they sleep outside on an expensive daybed & chase butterflies in the garden. Sometimes they help themselves to fresh fruit & vegetables from my garden. When I'm home they are fussed over & lay wherever they please including my lap when I sit down. They have been known to have prawns for dinner :)
  14. We went & saw the dog today Whilst she was very cute she wasn't right for my friend for several reasons The search continues!
  15. I'm just going to go & look with no expectations. We definately won't be walking away with her on the day. I'll update after Friday! Thanks for all your advise :)
  16. She is moving interstate & unable to take the dog with her. She said she gets scared of men & will just shake & go in her kennel. One of my cavs is like that though & it isn't an issue. She generally just bolts into her crate as soon as an unknown (or known) man comes in.
  17. This is the little girl. The owner sent me some photos. Not very good but I'll get more on Friday :)
  18. Thanks Pers. I'll add them to my list
  19. Thanks Pie. Yes the current owner has said that she gets anxious around men which wouldn't be a problem (her husband died recently). The current owner has 3 small kids & said she is great with them. Its a necessity as the lady who's looking at the dog has loads of grandchildren! The owner is going to bring one of her kids with her when we meet. I'm going to bring my dog to see how she is with other dogs.. My elderly friend just basically wants a companion dog.. a little lap dog that will follow her around & that will enjoy a walk every day.
  20. Hmm thanks everyone. I'm going with the lady to meet the dog on Friday. The dog is 5 & the current owner has said that she would prefer an elderly person to take her in.
  21. Ahh.. thanks Pers :) In your experience do you think they would make a good pet for an elderly lady?
  22. Hi Everyone Can anyone point me in the right direction to find info on the miniature fox terrior? I can't find anything in the breed sub forums or dog breeds 101 threads. Does anyone have one that I can ask questions about? Thanks :)
