Once a day (dinner) unless they are very young or very old. They do get a treat just before I leave for work.

Difficult With Chemical Smell In Food From Tablet
Salukifan replied to 2kellen2's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
You could buy a pill splitter and feed two halves. I would feed the entire dose in one go. Option B is two use more than one product in smaller tablets. -
Then I'd be wanting to see their import papers. It's a USA developed dog but to be best of my knowledge, it's not AKC or UKC recognised. They do have their own breed club.

A harness will give this boy more capacity to pull and you less control over his head - and if you control where the head is, you control the dog. A head halter MAY help (much as I dislke them) in this situation because he won't be able to pull as easily but he might slip it if he's really determined. However, they are entirely unsuitable for use with any kind of longline. I agree with those who say seek some professional help from a trainer. I would be having a frank discussion with your son about desexing AND about his role in exercising his dog. If Brash gets loose from you and charges another dog, "scaring it" will be the least of your worries. He could main or kill it, you could be looking down the barrel of a serious fine and he might be declared dangerous. So get some help. Sorry to be the scaremonger but the signs for a serious incident are there. Best nip them in the bud.

White hair to the roots suggests skin damage to me. Scarring can produce white hair.

I love markets for socialising pups. Only markets that allow dogs though. If it rule is "no dogs" I follow it.

While I've seen fat dogs in the show ring, I've yet to see an obese one. It is more prevalent in some breeds than others and definitely frowned on within sight hounds. I've heard the GP say they are too skinny! There's no winning in the court of public opinion.

Partial intestinal blockage perhaps? Hope you get a diagnosis and effective treatment ASAP! They sure know how to worry you!

You can find it online but diluted apple cider vinegar seems to be the default "home made" option

I've seen a few websites list it as toxic to dogs if ingested. A spray specifically designed for the purpose (like Bitter Apple spray) would be my recommendation.

How much time would you have most days for training and exercise outside your yard?

There are several: Standard Poodle - temperament is gun dog like. No surprise - that's what they really are. Curly Coated Retriever. Standard Schnauzer - probably a bit more dog than the others. I like the Giants too. Sorry to butt in,but what kind of gundog do you think the standards are most similar to? I'm curious because I've always fancied some of the gundog breeds, but would also consider the smaller poodle varieties. In energy levels I think they are most like the utility gun dogs. I think the smaller poodles are quite different.

Pet Industry Peak Body In Turmoil After Consumers Misled
Salukifan replied to _PL_'s topic in In The News
The peak industry body has had its head firmly shoved up its armpit if they "didn't know" about the standards of people who bred for the pet shop trade. A quick analysis of the numbers of pups coming out of the one "supplier" would ring alarm bells on anyone with half a brain cell. This is PR damage control... and damned cynical damage control at that. -
Pets Of Family Violence Victims To Be Offered Protection In Victoria
Salukifan replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
I'm not sure a kennel in a dog shelter is what I'd call "protection", especially for a longer duration stay. Still, its better than nothing I suppose. -
I adopt a lot of baby puppy management techniques with seniors and exercise is one of them. Off lead only - the dog does as much or as little as it wishes in about 20 minutes. With the very senior poodle I carry her if she can't deal with the ground but she's still good for 20 minutes of sniffing, peeing and strolling.

I don't see dog ownership as a competition to prove who is "best" or that its a once size fits all proposition. Sharing ideas, trying out a few things to see what works and going with what works for you is what its all about for me.

What interactions do you have with her OFF your property?? What fun things do you do together? If the main interaction a dog has with its owner involves a chain, I can't honestly say that's doing wonders for bonding. Your dog is now a seasoned escape artist. This is a problem more easily prevented than cured and to cure it you need the dog run equivalent of Alcatraz.. concrete, roofed, the works. Feed her in there, give her bones in there - make it a place that she gets good things in. You also need to get her off the property to some kind of training. This isn't a breed of dog that's going to lie around all day - they need a job! Stimulate that brain, reinvigorate the bond and keep her safe when you have to leave her. Chaining a dog is NOT safe.

He's great but we will miss the first trial. I will be in Europe.

Two of my pet dogs had only one descended testicle. Provided you intend to desex the puppy, the only complication is that the desexing operation will be more akin to desexing a bitch has they have to find the other testicle. Holding off shipping an unwell pup is a wise move. What breed are we talking about? It's certainly not a cheap pup!

Brandiandwe I think I just figured out who you are! You may recognise this screaming Whippet.

Buying New Puppy But Keeping Registration In Breeders Name
Salukifan replied to sophmadz's topic in General Dog Discussion
If I were you I'd be buying a pup from a breeder who will sell to you outright and enjoy sole ownership of your pet. I'd not be paying for a dog that I wouldn't own and that the breeder expected to use for stud duties. -
For what it's worth, I've never seen any derision of a dog that didn't chase. It's up to the dog. You can encourage it, you can try to raise interest but the dog decides. One of mine decided he'd rather be in the car.
-
Yes, some dogs aren't interested in a chasing a bag. If your dogs are off the track, I'd suggest you have them vet checked prior to running them. if they retired due to injury, you need to know if they will be fit enough to course - they will be asked to turn harder than they ever did racing.

Baby puppies go to "day care" with friends until they don't need the lunchtime feed. After that its limited access to the house with a dog door to access outside.
