My parents chi was 2.2kgs. The other day he was weighed and he was 1.8kgs. He is skin and bone, spine showing. Has an occasional off day now and then, wont eat his meal. This has been the case all his life, and never dropped weight, always put it on. I'd say such a sudden drop in weight in such a small breed wouldnt be that good. My big guys drop weight in a few days and put weight on in a few days but this guy is tiny. He is nine years old turning ten in October. He eats small dog bicky's with half a tin of mydog, the tiny little tray tin. he is a pig and is eating well currently. Any thoughts? They are thinking of having bloodwork done at vets.

Drive Training Using A Light Or Laser Pointer?
rugerfly replied to Luke GSP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I use next doors cat -
I walk Fly in her prong, and e collar.....nobody has ever asked me about them She really only carries her e collar till we get to the park cos you cant have both on at the same time etc to train.

She was a grand old gal. RIP roomie.

Hi CL. I have a dogtra collar with a pager type vibration system. Fly has made a big turn around in the obedience stakes since I simply started to train her recall again. Using K9's methods of proofing etc. She has become such a good little girl, I am actually using the vibration setting to let her know 'boundaries' if I dont want to keep calling her back, to let her enjoy her park experience, i use the pager with a 'not too far' command. Ruger doesnt give a dam about the pager, but fly seems to mind it perfectly. Now it sounds like I have no use for this expensive collar for her, but you wait till there is a cat or possum at the park No seriously, its a different story for her when she have gone 'bush' shes a different little person then When and what reasons do you think you would need a pager? Then I guess the experts will tell you if your on track.

My advice, you need to spend 1. The time 2. The money To get the result He can use it to train the dog to do anything. Sounds like some behaviour issues too. Does he know stuff about pack order etc? I dont think there is any point unless he is the top dog.

hmmmmm....If only breeders of small white dogs would give free barking collars with their puppies to clueless small white dog owners....

Funny, both my dogs know they are about to be rewarded, get treats, and have never been more enthusiastic after I started using e collars. Certainly not in pain, agony, nervous wrecks or show any signs of distress. My collars are used as markers of good behaviour, just like your clicker, but at an impressive distance.

Good old fashion 'AHHH!!' (growl) works for many things If there are attempts made to get up on the furniture. or anytype of naughty behaviour. Guide it to do something desireable and reward.

Have you been into the GSD forum in Breed section? Im sure they can throw around some Ideas and relate to what you are going through with your sheppy.

Dont add anything to his diet just yet. Euka has enough of the growing things he needs. Sardines wont hurt but there is enough minerals etc in his complete dry food. Overdoing things can cause problems with growth. Dont forget, not too much running and jumping too early

Waterproof Coats - Any Recommendations?
rugerfly replied to charliehotel's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'd probably go for the Thermomaster, or the Wagwear oilskin - more soft, flexible and comfy. -
Yep he makes it simple, but I still get it wrong

Ruger is being a little velcro like but he is still on the leash stage. I have to encourage hime to go off and sniff etc so I can work him back in, but he often looks at me and checks just incase I want him to come to me, he is so cute.
-
Perhaps not but probably related somehow On a brighter note, Ruger is doing super duper at his recall :D Fly is way ahead of him in leaps and bounds. Fly was more interested in me and fetching a stick, than the pidgeons nearby and other goings on. Was impressive.

No problem here corvus, I like any type of intelligent discussion I guess what I want out of my e collar is a very long distance remote controlled lead without getting tangled up in it.... Just like yesterday when I tried to walk ruger in the flexi leash Ummmm it didnt work
-
Those are very valid points corvus, but I want reliability no matter what. I cant carry around treats and toys with me all the time. It may work once, but if Fly sees a cat across the road when she is off leash, I take no chances in delay, or her particular level of interest at the time. I want both my dogs t be able to run together again, rather than run OFF in a pack drive...
-
yeah, thanks But how come a word/whistle etc wouldn't work if you want to get the dogs attention.....not trying to be inflammatory....just trying to educate myself.....an e-collar is something I would not use, but I feel it is important for my own interest to understan how other methods are intended to work, whether I agree with them or not. I guess if that worked when they are in the field under distraction and out of sight, i'd do it

Fly has a reaction to her working level while she is lying upside down on her bed. I can just see a muscle in her neck twitch. She sure just keeps on lyin there, upside down.... I assure you, it didnt disturb her. Ruger put his ears back and looked behind him and kept doing what he was doing...(acting stupid) The working level as it is called is not ment to be a correction, its a signal for ok dog, a command is a comin and many other ranges of communicating something to the dog. Hope that helps. :p

Sounds good! well perhaps we can share our trials and tribulations I cant WAIT till I can go to the park but Im not allowed yet :p

Dont be too hard on yoursef And dont mind some people's over reaction who may have no idea themselves in case they pop up. Most humans dont feel up to level 20. I too have just started my pair on these collars. Fly's collar fit was a bit tricky and I thought she wasnt feeling any reaction. You should not be able to move the collar around at all, but fit a finger beneath the contact points. All I can see with her reaction is a muscle twitching in her neck, nothig else. Its like she is trying to sho a fly away. Rugers level is lower than hers. I've only just started, and can only really share this much with you so far, but Steve is really helpful and Im sure if you give him a buz or email he can answer your query's. Unfortunatly he is booked out forty five years in advance though so get in early
