  6. i have seen and use this method and it does work i also have 2 squirt bottles at home to use on dogs staying for dog minding, 1 has just water the other a mix of water and vinegar. I use this method only when the dogs don't respond to my voice command and use it on dogs that get too excited and bully like or for barking for no reason etc. personally i would not use straight vinegar, mix it with water and only use it as a second correction when your dog has not responded to your voice correction.....when the dog does stop the bad behaviour you must always praise straight away this is how they learn.....after a while of shock squirting your dog they will soon learn if you bring the bottle out and aim it at them that they are doing wrong and will settle quickly caz they don't want get squirted and u won't need to use it, just show it to them trust me works well......but don't rely on it all the time you have to gain control using voice and remember must always praise as soon as your dog stops the bad behaviour.
  7. ohhh thats wondeful news i am glad she ha a good day i would concider taking her to doggy day care maybe once a week or so for a while this will really help break that "scared of other dogs issue" :D there will always be other dogs that are not trustworthy, but its best to stay away from the bad ones and seek out playful happy dogs, good luck cheers sam
  8. emmm not sure what type of Doggy day care centres you have in Sydney but i am in Melbourne and i run a doggy day care service from home...i seem to get quite alot of dogs that come in for more socializing with my dogs as they are in the same situation you are in with your dog. (these dogs are not placed in a large group situation, its one on one introduction. Also each dog takes it own time to come out and want to play. I have had dogs come in for 4 or 5 days before i even bought out another dog, just seeing and hearing them was enough to start with, plus getting used of me first.. also dogs being away from there owners all so tend to come out of there shell more caz they realise daddy or mummy ist there to protect them) this seems to work well but isn't as harse as it sounds.....its the person in charge of the other dog that counts. with scared dogs, its a slow process, with introduction to other dogs and needs to be with very calm but happy type of dog, off lead and in a comfortable home where they can duck for cover if they are not quite ready to meet the other dog. some times i play with the other dog, pretending the scared dog isnt there, when they see the other dog playing and having fun, they feel the need to want to come and join in the fun. it also helps if the other dog is well trained and can hold a good drop stay while your dog investigates the not so scary other dog what you need is to find some one (day care in someones home) or a professional dog trainer that has a well trained dog. if you were to find someone that can help you with this just once a week, you will notice your dog slowly come out of his shell. The idea is for your dog to slowly gain trust, in a quite and more calm environment. such places like dog parks and dog schools are most likely going to freak out your dog more and thats why he is finding it hard to make friends. i hope this is some help if you want to talk to me more about this then feel free to PM me any time. its a scary world out there, but dogs need friends and need to have trust in other dogs......get on top of it before the scared behavior turns to some thing much worse.
  9. hey flashfire where are you???? what state???? pm me if you like cheers sam
  10. arrrr another Aussie good luck with finding the right pup, and trying to train 2 dogs at the same time let me know when you do get it......i want pics :p i have had lots of calls latey.....what was the service the people were after???? thanks for reffering people to me cheers sam
  11. R you getting another Aussie???? ohhhh i am jeolous real jeolous :D what lines are you going for???? As for training, it can get confusing for your self using diffrent commands for both dogs. your find that Leo will always be ahead in training than a new pup and i would be training ona at a time till your new pup is at the sam e level as leo is now one thing you can do though is while training your new pup put leo into a sit/ drop stay...... then while training leo, make the pup behave and wait, tyed up some where close by using diffrent clicker noices is a good idea but also just simply using there names before the command will work also. I do this with Tya and cooper, when training at the park, such as recall, sit them both next to each other, call "Cooper come" and only he will come, If tya atemps to move i say 'Tya stay"......while cooper still comes in :p ....they know who i am talking too cheers sam
  12. Hi guys couldnt help but notice this thread......i have just changed Coopers diet, from proplan (which he has been on all his life) to Nutro.. I also got it from the lovely 4 paws and more gang .....and got my free bucket pretty happy with it too... well i got the performace one as Cooper is a hard worker, with all the sports he does.... will keep you posted on what the out come is, hopefully he does well on it. As for my other dog, well should say Dingo Tya is on supercoat, he has done well on it all his life, has a nice shinny coat and does well on it, he is not as active nor need a performance diet so have left him on supercoat and i am happy with it. As for Cooper i feel he needs more of a better dry food, so thats why i have choosen Nutro. good luck TB hope you can find Nutro cheers sam

  21. i thing it is great for city people to have the oppertunity to have a go at herding. with more farmers using other options instead of dogs on there farms, lest city people (like my self) will keep the herding sport alive. I have always been a big fan and enpired by watching sheep trails and watching working dogs do what there bred for. I feel very proud and happy that i can have a go at this sport, and see my dog doing what he was bred to do. so far with Cooper I have got our first real title (HT) and am still in training for the next level.....i am very very keen to try and get some where in herding, caz i injoy it alot and so does my dog  cheers sam
  22. hi guys I do the dog minding, In home pet care thing as a business and i always ask my clients to provide there own food. i don,t care what they give or how often they are feed. I feel dogs that are away from there owners are concerned and stressed as it is and there diets should stay the same. they can get tummy upsets etc if you give them some thing new.....not to metion not even wanting to eat any thing else but what they normally get. alot of people say to me ohhh my dog gets fresh meat etc, but i will just bring a few cans instead to make it easyer for you, but i don't care about how long it takes, or if i have to put fresh food in my freezer etc, i am happy to do what ever the dog normally gets so they are happy, have problems and some thing is the same while they are out of ther comfort zone. most kennels that i know that provide food......feed cheap dry and can food i am not a big fan of can food nor cheap nasty dry food with lots of colouring and crap in it that can really make your dog sick or hypo etc i am sure if you check out a few places and ask if they will feed your dogs the way you want, hopefully they will be happy to do so cheers sam
