  1. Excellent to hear. Did the vet confirm what it was? Was it a snake or poison? If if it was a snake what can you do to prevent the snake from returning? It’s awful to be fearful of it wandering around.
  2. That’s also true. I know a friend whose wife is afraid of dogs. Probably from a bad experience when she was younger. Recently she sprang her ankle being fearful when she saw a German Shepherd. The dog I was told by my friend was not aggressive or over excited, just minding his own business. But just the sight of such a big dog freaked her out
  3. It’s a shame that not many stores allow this
  4. Does anyone know whether insurance covers this?
  5. There are really not that many. I only know of Petbarn and Bunnings. Does anyone know of any others?
  6. That’s fantastic! Very good news. Hope it only goes uphill from this point. my sister told me her friend’s dog was bitten by a snake a few years ago. It was bad but the dog made a full recovery. Hope the same applies to you.
  7. Is twice a year an overkill? Is there insurance coverage on this?
  8. Fantastic, keep us posted whether there are any improvements.
  9. Poor baby. Hope all goes well. I have my fingers and toes crossed for you!
  10. Yeah allergies a pain! I hope she gets better soon, let us know how it goes. do try some yogurt if you haven’t tried it. Get the natural flavoured ones. I use these ones, I eat it myself and give a dollop to my boys. Start on a bit just in case she gets the runs from new food. It should help with tummy problems. http://www.vaalia.com.au/products/vaalia-natural-yoghurt/
  11. That’s great suggestion. I’ll do that! Thanks
  12. Hi @Little Gifts i recently opened a store on Etsy selling hand stamped pet iD tags and I offer free shipping within australia. Each one I custom hand make. If you are interested, feel free to ask me any questions. If it’s not what you are after that’s perfectly fine also. https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/teddybeansxx
  13. how is the coat of your baby? Does he have dandruff? Given that it’s winter, the air can be rather dry and skin can be dry causing itchiness. also most pet food companies allow you to return the food if it doesn’t suit your pet. There may be terms and conditions but if you are sure ivory coat isnt working, perhaps you can enquire.
  14. I don’t think it contains chicken according to their website but it has turkey. https://www.mealsformutts.com.au/product/puppy-turkey-salmon-sardine/ While turkey and chicken are birds, I think I read somewhere that turkey doesn’t have the same allergy rates as chicken. But this formula has two proteins, turkey and fish. So if it was food allergies, it will be hard to identify which is causing the allergies. Having said that, I not sure whether puppy food has only single protein. When I switch my boy to fish, I went straight to the adult formula because I think he was almost out of the puppy stage and it was hard locating puppy food with just fish protein at that time. Your puppy is 14 weeks so for you I think you should stay on puppy food. My sister is feeding this turkey and fish formula to her almost two year old. He seems to do well on it. My sister says she wants to keep her adolescent boy on puppy food because it has more protein than the adult range and the protein is where all the nutrients are. the fat content between the two is minimal so she doesn’t care about that. I don’t know whether she just made up that theory or whether it’s scientifically known. Haha You mentioned you were going to see your vet, did they suggest anything?
  15. I have this problem too with my boy too (not breathing through my nose), but just all of a sudden he seems nervous and fearful - at that time even a cuddle he doesn't like.. I never found out what it was, it just comes and goes out of the blue and is once in a blue moon situation. One thing i know for sure is smoke alarm beeping when the batteries are low. He is terrified of the beeps. Terrified. He would literally shake on the spot, tails behind his legs and goes into hiding. Perhaps its some high frequency noise when you blow on the squeaker that we humans can't hear - almost like when you whistle? Funnily enough, I would think my boy would be scared of squeaker toys, but he loves them. He will squeak it until it goes mute. And then squeak it some more just to make sure.
  16. Oh it is too. Sorry. I saw this on page 1 of the forum so just assumed it was current.
  17. I can’t remember who told me or where I saw it but fish was the least allergy prone. That’s why I went with fish. Don’t forget, it probably won’t happen immediately as there will still be some chicken or whatever protein in their system between the switchover. And gradually change the diet (mix a bit of both) switching it completely in one go may cause the runs.
  18. I don’t know whether it’s scientifically proven but my dog had bad allergies when he was little and I did a lot of reading and found that chicken was the main culprit. My boy was on a chicken based kibble and at that time was hard to find a kibble that didn’t contain some sort of chicken. Even if the protein wasn’t chicken it usually had chicken meal or chicken fat. But I was able to find one that was fish, and once he was on it, he noticeably scratched less. https://pets.webmd.com/dogs/guide/caring-for-a-dog-that-has-food-allergies I can’t say for sure but usually it has to be a process of elimination. Switch him to something not chicken and try to stay with one protein so if something caused him irritation you can deduce which protein it is. My boys used to be on taste of the wild salmon range. I recently switched to meals for mutts salmon which has no chicken and they seem to be doing well. I switched for two reasons 1. TOTW is imported from USA while MFM is made local. I recently heard they do something on imported dog food (at quarantine) which I didn’t like. 2. MFM was better value You can give it a try. ask for samples but I think it usually take one full regular bag to tell whether it works or not. Samples are usually not enough.
  19. Sorry I also forgot, genuine breeders will also offer you papers for the puppy- like a certificate with the family tree and bloodlines. A lot will mandate you desex your dog and doing that they will return a portion of your money. Questions are two way, don’t be shocked if the breeder asks you questions too! In fact be shocked if they don’t ask you any. They want to know you are a responsible owner and have a good home for the dog.
  20. Don’t forget you can also get feedback from people on this forum. If it’s a genuine breeder, people on this forum would have dealt with them. I think there are quite a few good breeders that frequent this forum.
  21. The websites are legit but you can have anyone sell stuff on it. The sellers may not be legit, some are fraudsters in fact that scam people. I once had someone contact me on gumtree wanting to buy something I posted, then came really weird requests saying they were overseas and couldn’t get me the money so request that I wire money over to them and they will pay me back when they are back in Australia. All didn’t make sense at all. then I had someone else on another ad contact me in one email asking if I could lower my price and then in subsequent emails offer me an amount more than what I had asked for. All sounded fishy so I reported to gumtree and they confirm they were scams they are already aware off. gumtree can have very dodgey people behind the accounts. So that’s why I say for puppies to avoid it and seek better sources. Gumtree is fantastic for selling second hand goods, but in my opinion not puppies. I haven’t used kooas before but think it’s probably the same level as gumtree in terms of reliability. once you decide, ask the breeder lots of questions, a good Breeder will generally respond with detailed responses and you could most of the time gauge from their response whether they are dodgey or not. An unethical Breeder won’t respond or address your concerns, in which case, move on.
  22. Is ivory coat chicken protein? Food allergies are common with chicken.
