  1. Umm.. single dad... the child would have been covered by medicare.. he wouldn't have any medical expenses.
  2. Maybe go for something that isn't quite so expensive for you as an entry level DSLR... Canon 350D or even the 500D are great for getting used to using a DSLR. Just reading your other thread so figured that $5000 would be rather ridiculous amount for a professional level camera when you're used to using a point and shoot (and not a professional photographer).
  3. Hopefully blacks won't ever gain the popularity of chocs or yellows.. The best should be harder to find :D Agree with everyone who stated $1800 is INSANELY expensive for a pet puppy... I would be expecting pick of the litter from a Driftway litter for that price (and I'd be expecting to win the bloody Royal!) Rip off.
  4. If the law states that a dog must be desexed if it isn't a registered purebred.. then I sit and wait for the day that the councils get onto ACA Puppy Breeders and every other puppy farm in Victoria (of which there are MANY) and order them to have their animals desexed. As for really dealing with desexing laws.. whilst I think for the average pet owner it is a good idea in theory (case in point is the moron who wants to breed his hideously ugly mongrel JRT x) but when other laws aren't enforced or non-existant (ie: making puppy farming illegal) why bother.
  5. lol might be the cause then.. new batteries and see how it goes.
  6. Not really.. considering that lifespan years ago was much lower than it is today... and we have better medical assistance to keep people alive longer as well. What killed people 50yrs ago, isn't so much a death sentence these days (depending on what it is of course).
  7. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats. My cats adore the dogs (much more than people) and always have. They were raised from 3wks of age with a litter of rescue puppies who were being hand-reared...
  8. Depends a lot on breed with the age though... a geriatric Great Dane is 10-12yrs old... A Lab is considered geriatric at 12yrs.. a 12yr old Poodle isn't. That said.. My Lab is 13yrs and has just had her hind left leg amputated and it hasn't slowed her down much at all.. She's predominately fed a raw diet over the years, but now also has Optimum dry food. My Dane is almost 7.5yrs old (getting quite old for a Dane) and is in great health.. she has Opyimum dry and some raw (she can't be on a totally raw diet as she has issues with maintaining her weight on it).
  9. There is NO way a new mother could sleep through her newborn being mauled.. it isn't possible.. unless she was under the influence of sedative drugs. New mothers are wired to hear their babies... they might wake a few minutes after her baby had been crying in another room.. but in the same BED!.. not a chance. Poor baby. RIP little one.
  10. When I first adopted Cordelia (Lab) she weighed in at about 48kg... She lost 28kg in 3mths.. if she didn't lose weight, she was going to die... simple. She was fed a very small amount of chicken mince every second day with vegies to fill her up... on the days when she wasn't allowed meat.. she only got vegies. Her diet consited mainly of pureed carrot, brocoli, apple, cauliflower, a smidge of garlic, (cabbage can be given but by God the farting was intolerable with Cordy), pears and an assortment of other fruits and veg (on meat days, she also got an orange for dessert is the citric acid helps breakdown animal protien and fat). As Stormie says though... calories burnt need to exceed caloric intake in order to lose weight.
  11. Why are these shows always on when I am on afternoon shift?!?!?!
  12. If she doesn't have a uterus.. then no, she can't carry a pregnancy. I would assume that she still has on ovary and the bitch needs immediate veterinary attention to find and remove it. It is at risk of becoming cancerous if left in there. Yes a phantom pregnancy can go so far as causing lactation in any mammal (including humans). She will be at risk of developing mastitis if she doesn't see a vet asap (depending on just how much she is lactating).
  13. Umm.. noone is hammering the breed at all.
  14. I better tell my brown Poodle then..... she'll be surprised!
  15. Was simply curious. And for the record.. since Lo Pan is saying that ALL Pitbull owners shouldn't be labelled as irresponsible owners etc... then one would assume that he (and the rest of you who own restricted breeds) would be complying with the current laws. That is what a responsible owner would do.. is it not??
  16. Yep... you called him a bull breed.. he isn't one. He's a crossbreed. It isn't soley because of your chosen breed.
  17. Puppy was a Rottie x... NOT a bull breed at all. So Lo pan... do you comply fully with the legislation regarding restricted breeds with your own dog?? Is your dog (that you claim to be a Pitbull) registered with your local council as a Pitbull??
  18. Now see, here's the thing... I never said I believed the reports of the breeds involved.. and people ARE harping on about protecting individual dogs who have mauled children (or anyone for that matter). It makes one gullible, Lo Pan.. not a fool... and an easy thing to believe when the general public don't know what a Pitbull looks like... A fool would be someone who puts the focus on the 'poor breed' when a child needs reconstructive surgery to their face. Proving Pitbull owners are often redneck inbreds does nothing for the 'cause'.
  19. No.. there were 2 seperate attacks.. And.. regardless of breed, the dogs should be euthanased. Both were very serious attacks... the dogs ARE dangerous if they inflict that level of injury to a human.... these attacks weren't warnings from the dogs.. the dogs should be destroyed.... fine the owners, have them charged with owning a DD, throw the book at the irresponsible bastards.... But have those 2 dogs destroyed at the earliest time so they NEVER get the opportunity to injure anyone else. Those poor little kids are going to be scarred for life and all half of you can harp about is the protection of the animals who attacked them... No wonder BSL is alive and well in this country when the very people meant to be protecting theses breeds behave like rednecks, crying out in support of 2 dogs who mauled 2 small children!
  20. Rest in Peace May. I'm glad she wasn't left to suffer even longer.
  21. Yep.. fresh, boiled chicken is the healthiest alternative for popping pills into. Vets should be skilled enough to be able to administer diuretics without creating issues with electrolyte imbalance... potassium (and magnesium) can become low in some dogs and they should have blood levels done.. and suppliments added if need be. Suppliments should NOT be given without prior blood tests. If her diet is well controlled, she should be able to get what she needs from a natural diet.. if not.. tablets/capsules can be given in a dose specified by the vet.
  22. Good suggestion Cynthia. A tasty, salt free and lean meal... Good luck with her Chinaplate. She's going to need it. You're posting style is weirdly different. Maybe it's just the stress of a sick dog.
  23. Amazing that in one post you manage to totally disregard the dangers of giving this dog a processed meat (high in salt)! What, in your medical opinion would be considered too much salt for this dog who only 2 days ago was ina critical condition from her CHF, Muttaburra??
