  1. Wishing your old girl all the best. It is so hard with our oldies. I have an 11 1/2 year old Basset Hound, she is blind and deaf and full of cancer but her brain is still very sharp. The past month she has dropped a huge amount of weight regardless of how much she is getting fed. I have spoken with my vet about the weight lose and there is nothing more he/we can do for her now. It is time to say goodbye Leanne
  2. I live in Murray bridge and it is very easy and well sign posted to get to Tanunda going the back way (not through the city). If you know the towns that you need to go through to get to Tanunda you will not have any problems. It is also a very scenic drive. Murray Bridge Palmer Tungkillo Mount Pleasant Williamstown Lyndoch Tanunda Leanne ps great winneries and mettwurst around the area
  3. I'm sorry but I would of slapped that judge and walked off with my pup. What a way to ruin what looks like a promising pup. And if I was the guy waiting I would of walked out the ring 99% of judges I have met over the last 17 years have been great with babies, every now and again (not often at all) you will get one that is rough and I have taken my pup and walked out of the ring. There is no way I am going to subject a baby (or any of my dogs) to a judge that is rough. Leanne
  4. I am the same as the others, swing, head down, lots of rubbing to get the fluid out of the lungs. I have also found it helpfully to have the pup on a hot water bottle while rubbing and I also pinch the back of the neck if they are gasping. My vet gave me crisis care, just a couple drops in the mouth. Sometimes no matter what you do it is just not meant to be Leanne
  5. I have been using the following recipe for over 15 years now and have found it works a treat. It is cheap, easy to get and last 5-7 days in the fridge. 1 can of evaporated milk, with 1 can of cool boiled water (use empty milk can for water). Mix in an empty cool drink bottle (or similar) and shake to mix each time you use it. I have always had fat healthy babies with firm (but yellow) stools using this. Leanne

    Help

Hi, I have bred Bassets before. It does depend on the dogs themselves. I have had natural slip matings with 1 stud and AI's with another stud (he was a very well endowed boy) I never had a natural tie with my guys. Personally I would go with an AI, have the bitch swabbed for infections first incase she needs AB's. Also it pays to have the bitch xrayed a few days before she is due to whelp to make sure the pups are small enough to fit in the pelvis. I have had pups range in weight from 350grams (litter of 12) to 800grams (litter of 5). I had 6 litters of Bassets and 4 where c-section. Normally Bassets are wonderful mothers but they can have a tendancy to squash pups. If your friend likes they can email me or phone me if they would like more info, details are on DOL. Basset babies are so gorgeous. Leanne
  7. Excellent news. Hope Kimba is OK. You can have your red girl and I will have your tiger brindle girl Leanne
  8. I was lucky enough to own a gorgeous black and tan girl for a couple years while I showed her for the breeder (from a pup). Extremely smart breed but also very full on. Leanne
  9. All my dogs are registered/ show entered under Ozstar Kennels and I am not a business. SA stopped being able to use your prefix a while back but then bought it back again. I was lucky with my prefix, only had to submit 3, Ozstar was my first choice and my 2 and 3 where different spelling of Ozstar. Leanne
  10. I have had a few bitch's absorb and never had any signs of pyo. Leanne
  11. As a breeder I choose the pups for my buyers based on their lifestyles and what they are after in a dog. Saying that you should choose the pup that has a "look at me attitude" or "curls up in your lap" does not mean that the pup has the best attitude and characteristics that you are after. If you came to my place and sat down you would have ever pup in your lap all wanting attention Talk to your breeder, be honest in what you want. Leanne
  12. I can remember years ago taking a bitch in at day 28 and counted 13 sacks but not all looked good, went back at day 42 and there was none :D . Had a bitch that had 7 pups at day 28 all looked good and delivered 4 pups. Keeping everything crossed for a good outcome with your girl. Leanne
  13. I have had bitch's absorb entire litters and part litters. Normally when my girls have part absorbed litters there has only been empty sacks left. Normally you can tell by the shape of the sack ie if the outside of the sack is nice and rounded it should be good if it looks wobbly/wiggly it is not good. Hope that is understandable :D Leanne
  14. I am sorry but that information is false. My cousin has been breeding boxers for 17 years. In that time she has had 2 deaf white boxer and considering there is nearly always 1 white boxer per litter, the deafness ratio is extremely low (less than 1%). Also deaf boxers do yip, bark etc. As for the blue Staffords, there is currently 82 Stafford puppy listing on here, 42 of those are blue/blue lines and the majority of those are all sold on main register. The blues are doing more damage for the breed than any other colour, ie not meeting the standard (and not just the nose), skin issues, temp issues and not to forget the over pricing. When you have novice people who bought a blue pup on main reg and decided to breed with no importance to health, temp, type, only for the money there can never be a good outcome for the breed. Leanne
  15. Frenchies get all sorts of comments. only a face a mother could love its ugly enough to be cute is it a pug cross it it a staffy cross oh look she's walking a pig did it walk into a wall if I kick it up the bum will its face pop out I did have a little kid ask me if he could play with my bunny Leanne
  16. They have the same health problems, skin problems. Also the eye colour does not conform to standard. There has been a few blues crop up in Australia and I hope that it does not go the same way as the blue Staffords. Years ago there was a person trying to pimp out his blue brindle boy to everyone. Had the worst eye colour Leanne
  17. Disqualify colours in French Bulldogs, much the same as Staffords. Some of these colours are fetching $20000 + in the states. Blue Liver Black and Tan (this is really a tri as it also has white) Leanne
  18. I don't worm my pups till they are 3-4 weeks old and use drontol tablets. Might get a couple sloppy poos but never the runs/squirts. Mum is always well wormed and I have never had a wormy pup. I used to use the suryps at 2 weeks till I lost a pup through it, never again. Leanne
  19. ;) ;) I am so happy for you, I know how long you have been waiting for this litter. You know now that Cynda will also be pregnant and you will have 8 from each Leanne
  20. Mastini you could also try John at Adelaide Plains Vet Clinic (Two Wells). He is a fantastic repo vet and will allow the bitch to stay there for testing and insemination. Leanne
  21. Well said To me ethics is far more important than a prefix. I have only done a handfull of shows this year as I just don't have the time at the moment and to be honest with all the bullsh*t that goes on at shows lately I really can not be bothered. This does not change my outlook on ethics and I do not believe that someone should be downgraded just because they don't show. There are far to many unethical registered breeders out there now that really being registered does not mean what it used to. Leanne
  22. I had a pups in my last litter like this. My had lots of milk and babies stacked on the weight from day 1. The pups where fine when not feeding but would be rattly and have milk come out of the nose. By day 5 mums milk had settled down (not producing quite so much) and the pups settled down. I found with the really gutsy ones I would put on the top teats that had less milk and this helped as well. Wishing you all the best. Leanne
  23. This is my boy Chaos, he will be 4 years old in a couple months (photos where taken about a year ago). He is fed a good quality diet and gets plenty of free play and exercise. Chaos is 17 kgs and 16 1/2 inches tall ( he is just over breed standard height). There is no way I would want my Stafford over 20kgs. Leanne
  24. I have sold dogs overseas to pet homes. It can be because there are no breeders in their country or what breeders are there are not good or simply because they like the look of your dogs. Considering the amount of ETHICAL breeders that have sold to pet homes overseas I would dare say that you would be in a lot of pain with all the backhanders you receive back. You need to remember that we have no quarantine regulations when exporting, our dollar is a lot cheaper than a lot of countries and we have a lot of damn good breeders here. Leanne
  25. Do you restrict who comes to your house before litter is born and while they are on the ground? The week before pups are due I try to keep the house quiet and get the mum to be used to the whelping box. Once pups are born it is only close family and friends that are allowed inside. My pups are born and stay in my bedroom for the first few weeks and no outsiders are allowed in there. I have a tray outside filled with disinfectant which all shoes must be dipped in. No shoes allowed in my room, hands must be disinfected, clean clothes etc. Do you not leave the house? What about if you need to take the kids to school or go the shops - what do you do after? If I have to leave the house and noone is home (will not go longer than 30 minutes in the first week) I put the mother in a crate. Normally someone is home though. Do you allow visitors (ie schoolfriends of your children?, friends or family with dogs) Yes but they must do what was mentioned in question 1. School friends are limited to only close friends. What do you do to prepare the house/kennel etc beforehand, disinfection-wise? what do you use? Whelping box and floors (all lino here also) are cleaned with Delete, bedding for whelping box is also washed in delete. I normally do not go to shows 2 weeks before a litter is due, just incase I bring something home. If you work with dogs or go to shows, what do you do to minimise any possible cross-infection? I don't go to shows till the pups have had their first vaccination and any pet pups have gone to their new homes. I am very paranoid about bringing something home. Summer litters are harder as parvo is more active and my town does have a bad rep for parvo. Leanne
