  1. Was your dog under control and doing the right thing? It sounds to me like you need to stop hiding behind the club and this post and just speak to the person involved. She probably isn't that irresponsible and mean after all. WTF.....You are on DOL for 2 minutes, write 2 posts, misread other posts and are already attacking people. Ease up. Instead of immediately jumping on the defensive and seemingly taking this very personally as others have said, take some deep breaths, calm down and read the thread from the beginning. Hmmmm One does wonder why you are being so defensive for such a newbie...
  2. Congratulations..... See you and Molly came second in Open, well done BUT where are the pics??????
  3. Pippi, maybe we should start the Victorian branch got 4 frisbee fanatics in my camp. ML what do you think about us Mexicans starting a team up? Hey lets go for it - if the VFL can create the AFL, we could give this a go and have a national comp. Besides, I could do with a trip to QLD. ML how many teams do you have, or does everyone compete individually?
  4. Would love to go, Pippi loves playing Frisbee, but QLD is a bit too far. As fas as I know we don't have these comps in Vic unfortunately. Hope you all have a great time.
  5. OMG WTF is that woman thinking. She needs to be banned from owning dogs not just banned from a trial ring. Very sad.....lets hope karma will get her...
  6. Favourite Topics.... 1. Psychology Because it gave me a sound scientific background to begin to understand animal behaviour from a psychological perspective. 2. Canine Behaviour Particularly instinctive and innate behaviour and canine communication. All topics which are imperative to understand if you are going to work with dogs. I found it fascinating as it was all new to me. 3. Loved the guest instructors, Steve Austin and Dr Robert Holmes. Loved it because here were experts in their field, willing to pass on some of their broad knowledge and experience. They also had a knack of communicating with students as equals and with a great sense of humour. Favourite Instructors.... Boyd - because of his wealth of knowledge and experience, professional manner and always interesting, never boring classes. I also actually enjoyed his way of pushing you to the limit and challenging you. Love him or hate him he certainly made you think and rethink. Cant say I always appreciated his jokes though.... :p Owen - Enjoyed his practical sessions. Again he always pushed you and challenged you. I guess I like being challenged - Makes me think. What did I get out of the course - A new career and life for one. I also learnt enough to know that there was so much more to learn and I have never stopped that journey of learning. I met a whole bunch of people who love dogs as much as me, made new friends and wouldn't change it for the world.
  7. Easier said than done, you can also pay heaps for private lessons that are supposedly 'good', only to discover the so called expert was no expert at all and the cost of the private lessons are going to be much more than Adam Katz' book. So you can still lose out big time. Katz may use web based marketing hype but I dont have a problem with the content of his book or the methods he advocates. Certainly not the worst book on dog training I have ever read..
  8. I'll definitely be there whatever the day, just let me know..... Actually a week day suits me just fine....
  9. How sad is that - should be compulsory for people who want to own a dog to attend some basic dog behaviour classes. A few more: My dog is jealous of ............(insert appropriate name, e.g. husband, wife, children, friend etc etc) My dog looks so guilty when I growl at her, she knows she has done something wrong..... I left my dog at home so to punish me he trashed the house........ Bring on licencing to own a dog......
  10. Erny So sorry to hear that you have had to say a final farewell to your beloved companion, Kal. Take comfort in the fact that you did all that was humanly possible toward the end and that you gave her a life that was doggy heaven on earth. Kal is now at peace. My thoughts are with you.
  11. No worries, I can always re-arrange my days with a bit of notice.. Besides it's a very good idea that instructors should be able to go........
  12. Count me in for sure - I would prefer an all day, my view is that it makes it really worth while and you learn heaps more because there are more dogs with different temperaments to see working. My personal interests are 'Drive training' and dealing with 'Fear/Aggression Issues' (I can supply a dog for that one ......) I could probably rustle up a few more. Come on central Vic, lets all support this one - I can vouch for the fact that it will be really worth your while.
  13. You could try Kepala K9 Country Club (in Victoria). Has agility equipment already setup in an enclosed area so you just pay for the time and take your dog through off lead. You can also take the dog for a swim afterwards in the indoor pool. Great facility..
  14. Hey Erny Any news re Kal's tumour after your apointment today. Hope the news is encouraging. Please keep us updated......
  15. Oh God Erny, just found this thread-I don't usually spend a lot of time in 'Health & Nutrition'. What a time you and Kal have had and more to come by the sound of it. I sincerely hope Kal's treatment goes well and you will be in my thoughts on 26th. Take care and stay strong..
  16. oooh, that sounds SERIOUSLY yummmy! but does it work as well if the liquid isn't warm/hot? Works well whatever you do - warm, hot, cool, cold who cares. After a couple of cups and a couple of tim tams you feel too good to care Works well in a glass of port too....
  17. And for those wondering where it temporarily went, I assume it was due to my request to have it removed (due to the already starting working vs. "show" crap) was considered and denied. Shame you thought that was necessary. I can't see anywhere where the 'show/working' debate looked like raising its head. Maybe BC/Kelpie debate but thats par for the course..
  18. Things such as 'eating before the dog', 'not letting the dog sleep on your bed', 'always making the dog wait to go in/out the doorways after you' etc etc, IMO opinion are only a problem if you already have leadership issues with your dog. So if you are trying to establish yourself as aleader of the pack then the above are just some of the strategies you may put in place to help with that. If you don't have a problem with leadership then don't stress if you eat after the dog. Personally I have never found it possible or practical to have the dogs wait while I eat. I usually eat too late. I have heard though that simply spitting in their food before giving it to them achieves the same result, theory being that you as leader have already eaten from that bowl.
  19. Congratulations guys, good work. Hmmmm I have some work to do to catch up.......
  20. As you said the video only shows the result, could you explain further what the Susan Garrett 2x2 method is?
  21. The next handlers workshop will be in Victoria, I would say late May... I will be settling dates for the Vic stuff this week I hope... Yaaaaaaah in Vic, I definitely want to be there, that sounded like an excellent workshop. Can't wait - I have already cancelled everything else in May.... ;) Damn, I got the quote thing wrong......
  22. Haven't read it yet, but it is on my list of books I want. A review would be great.....
  23. Same here.......Victoria......Yeeeeeeehhhhhhh ETA: Maybe Northern/Western burbs this time pleeeeeease...
  24. You won't do any better than take the great advise that Poodlefan has offered in both his/her posts. BTW Poodlefan I just love your avatar - I have a good laugh every time I see it, please don't change it for a while...
