  1. We're thinking alike! mmm my first port of call is the muscle man
  2. If you can get any wool fat or lanoline from the chemist, put it in the fridge until it goes into a solid state and then put that on. You can work it into the cracks better when it is solid, and it seems to stay on longer too. That's what "greyhound people" use.
  3. Ruby is already working her magic from the bridge.......... Julie (greytpets - who doesn't have internet access at present) broke the sad news to our lovely carers who nurtured dear Ruby through her vet work. They were deeply upset as they really loved her. Anyhoo - looks like they are going to adopt the lovely senior girl they are fostering at present, as Ruby's death has really hit home with them how precious our lovely greys are. Thank you Ruby, you have worked your magic for another lovely senior girl.
  4. She would never say where she came from Yesterday don’t matter if it’s gone While the sun is bright Or in the darkest night No one knows She comes and goes Goodbye, Ruby Tuesday Who could hang a name on you? When you change with every new day Still I’m gonna miss you... Don’t question why she needs to be so free She’ll tell you it’s the only way to be She just can’t be chained To a life where nothings gained And nothings lost At such a cost There’s no time to lose, I heard her say Catch your dreams before they slip away Dying all the time Lose your dreams And you will lose your mind. Ain’t life unkind? Goodbye, Ruby Tuesday who could hang a name on you? When you change with every new day Still I’m gonna miss you... Many tears here too today Longclaw. After many many years on various greyhound properties, she finally found her forever home with you. Not long enough I know, but she had four wonderful months in the Tommy Longclaw household. She really was one of the very special ones, I know we say that about all of the greys, but dear Ruby was extra special - I mean how could anyone with only four teeth be so beautiful? annieK
  5. Well I had a DER moment today. Was trying to get some pics for my website (dogs in coats) and rushing around in between the rain I left the 50mm on by mistake. Not too bad portraits, but blurred coats anyway I found these from the other day when I uploaded the images!
  6. Thank YOU Erny - a pleasure to read (if thats the right thing to say considering the drama and worry you've had). So pleased that it is unravelling, and sincerely hoping that Mandela is now well and truly "on the up"
  7. OK well here's my first "play" with the 1.8 Was hoping for some afternoon sun coming through the front windows, but alas it never arrived as I hoped it would! I don't have any fancy software, so these are pretty much straight from the camera. and please don't ask what this is all about - I just saw the remnants of last night's wine bottle and stood it on the container of dog food and pointed towards the outside door to the deck! Must say I'm very impressed how it blurs the mess in the kitchen so noone can see it :p Oh and this is foster Amber (don't ask why she's tied up ) I love the indoor shots without a flash
  8. OK - well I just took the oldest (and slowest) to the beach (leaving the younger whining girls at home ) not real great, but I usually use the zoom and keep a distance - with this lens I have to be closer and get showered in sand - I find it quite unnerving having a zooming grey heading towards me at full speed and staying in the kneel position! and this is the look I got when we got home :p
  9. it's arrived - at the PO - will pick it up tmorrow!
  10. Yes I have had a few fosters who have eaten whole small bars of soap - especially the fruity ones. Have had no ill effects with them except now the soap lives elsewhere!

  12. bugger - can't find it - (I will do anything to avoid a salesman a quarter of my age who knows more than me)
  13. ok then - so I have to have one of these lenses - dare I ask how many $'s I have to spend on myself for my birthday?
  14. Sounds like good news Erny If you can keep him on the same diet with small increases in size, he will be sure to put on a little weight. Then once you start experimenting with his diet, if he does take a little stop back (which I'm sure he won't) at least he will have a bit of a buffer there.
  15. nope - I will cram at the last minute once we have set a date
  16. So pleased that you are travelling in the right direction Erny. Not sure if this is any help Erny - ignore if it's not - but one product I always keep handy is "Savoury Yeast Flakes". They're available in good (expensive) health food shops and are "specially designed to meet the nutritional needs of vegetarians and anyone interested in a rich source of B vitamins". They have a slightly cheesy flavour and we use them to encourgage speyed bitches to eat if they are off their food after the op. A sprinke on food is generally all it takes to get them going. annieK
  17. I dunno then - I guess you have to balance the high value of the food. Cooked chicken would probably be the best, although any cooked lean meat would also be better than 4 legs/cabana, which although yummy is also (I think) higher in fats and other junk. Can you incorporate more activity (running) into her training to burn off the extra calories? Would apple or pear be yummy enough for her?
  18. The only ongoing training I do is for recall and I use tiny pieces of dried liver. I can interrupt two greyhounds having "chase the rabbit" thoughts by using their "secret words" and dried liver. It is the only time they get it which makes it more special. And I figure dried liver is sort of part of their raw diet, ie. it is dried not cooked
  19. yes he's the nuff nuff on 3AW that say's it's ok to feed cooked bones :D
  20. I use a greyhound vet for the annual health visit for my two. They get a good going over, checking for greyhound "type" issues (pulling, bending and prodding of limbs, hocks, feet, toes). Listens to heart, eye check, teeth check including hand teeth scale, tummy prodded etc. and a chat about any changes in habits blah blah. I don't vac, and for the double consult it is around $70. annieK
  21. There's D & D Pet Foods ph 9786 4603 The have raw meats, and cooked concoctions, but not BARF mix. Chicken mince $1.50 per kg, turkey mince $4 kg, beef $3.40 kg, also roo, ox cheek, and roo tails $3 - 500g piece and Backman Meats ph 5145 4324 only have raw beef I think, and less than $3 kg, and cooked "stuff". they both deliver to parts of the Peninsula. Neither have BARF mix. Hope that helps!
  22. I've done that before - rip it off, saline wash, dab of betadine - done
  23. I feed around 3% raw - a little more in winter as they get more excerise.
