  1. I also thought, well, at least picked up the poo in a bag. DOLers, always with the positive. :D
  2. A friend's dog went deaf after an epileptic fit. She was going to Baer test to make sure and then her hearing returned.
  3. The Terrierman has a particular view of terriers and working dogs. He likes certain types and doesn't like others. Just like the rest of us, I suppose.
  4. Roo's focus at obedience is non existent. #sigh
  5. Good tip, ta. Bunny chews everything, even treats. Roo just swallows.
  6. You know where today's dog lives and who owns it. Report it.
  7. A collar isn't an option as we're heading to a show. I think Nexgard or Bravecto sounds okay. Is Nexgard a tablet or a back of the neck thing?
  8. Not living in a tick area I've never had to worry about them but we're visiting Newcastle soon and I understand tick protection is necessary. Anyone in the area? What do you use? Can I bath after putting it on and how long before the trip should I use it? Is there a handy tablet I can use instead?
  9. Training with Bunny was interesting today. Despite doing very little training during the week because I had the flu Bunny was much better this week. Far less scatty, ate the treats I offered, and while she was playing with the other dogs before and after she took no notice of the cars going past. During training cars went past and she mostly ignored them, only looking up when a really noisy motorbike went past. She was keen on the other dogs but I was able to get her attention much more quickly. I used my cross voice a few times and she immediately paid attention. Still doesn't walk on a loose lead there, though. I think what proved to be the difference was that I got there half an hour early and she had a good run around. Maybe it's just the edge was taken off. Roo is continuing with his show training and he's much better than I am.
  10. My two love the rain because MUD! I have found Bunny doesn't like being watched while doing a wee and certainly does not like the pressure. Such stress!
  11. Very pleased that Pudding is on the improve and that the others are getting better.
  12. How long are you waiting for outside with him?
  13. I messaged Elliedog encouraging her to keep posting. She obviously doesn't want to. Well done yet again, DOL. You may as well post up front that your aim is to drive people away.
  14. Tug toys she just drops. She likes chasing balls so I could try that. Voice she ignores when we're at training. At home she's motivated by food. Roo is a bit the same. Show trainer suggested we try a squeaky toy with him but we can't use that at obedience. The trainer suggested a mix of treats so will try that. Thanks for the advice! Roo and I went up to an empty block a little while ago and ran around like we were winning Crufts. He did really well given there were kids screaming from a nearby property and poo around.
  15. She's generally when we're walking around by ourselves. She's freaked out by cars in general. She stops dead and sits when one goes past. She did an enormous leap forward today in training for no apparent reason. Startled the trainer. I think it was a car going past but she ignored other cars completely. I'll try to get down there with her one night this week or on Saturday. Thanks, good idea.
  16. I think this would be better in its own thread rather than in this one.
  17. Oh Bunny girl. Went to training this morning. She drooled all the way there. She wasn't interested in the treats, not interested in me, very keen on roo poo until I picked some up and offered her some, interested then not in the other dogs. The one time I got her to behave, one of the other trainees brought her reactive dog into our space without realising. The trainer suggested bringing a toy but they don't allow ones with squeakers as they're too distracting for other dogs. I also tried a squeaky toy when we went to Pet Barn after and it didn't hold her interest. What to do?
  18. Turns out the show lead wasn't the right sort. Trying a chain. Had a first go at clipping Roo's dew claws given how flighty bitey he is and goodness me, he just sat there!
  19. I've onky just sorted out Roo's chip details, adding my sister as the secondary person but the council rang her to query something. I will see what the papers come back as and transfer him onto a national register. Bunny's details are also not up to date but there's nothing I can do about that for a couple of weeks at least.
  20. Notes that T just called me impressively experienced ... elliedog, I agree that you take what you need from threads like this and I second those who suggest you get an experienced behaviourist/trainer in as well as just double checking the pup's health. I'm raising two and at times it does my head in (especially when I went to bed the other night to find one overly excited youngster had done a wee on my doona ...). I have a bitey boy who forgets all his training the moment he has a new smell to check out. He and his sister are currently sound asleep and I'm just letting them despite it being 7.30 and none of us having dinner yet. I haven't even walked or groomed them tonight. Such a bad owner ... Take a step back and a deep breath. Forget everything you've done already with this puppy and just start from scratch. For a while there I never took off my treat pouch. Every time something was done right, a big, 'Yes!' and treat. Get your family to do the same. There are some great resources online about crate training and mouthing and toilet training. Why don't you make a list of the the most important things, post it here and we can put together some resources for you to check out?
  21. I would start from scratch and instead of sending her out, go out with her as if she's still very little. Lots of praise and treats. I'd also teach her a trick where she gets praised for not biting. I mentioned in another thread that teaching my bitey boy to 'kiss' (touch his nose against my hand) instead of biting got him to get much better. I agree to rule out a UTI. I know how despairing it can be. I got into bed last night to find one of my ratbags had done a wee on my doona because playing is so much more fun than going outside. Lower your expectations of your puppy and of yourself, too.
  22. Wouldn't a PP40 lessen the chance of movement? Got a show lead on the weekend. Will see how the ratbag goes.
  23. I had issues with Roo being very bitey. I taught him how to kiss and although he hasn't stopped completely when overexcited, he is so much better. I just sat on the couch with a treat bag and when he bit, I'd say, 'uh uh' and say kiss. When he touched my hand without nipping he got a treat. I actually stuck my hand in his mouth the other day and he spat it out.
