Anyone Here Feed There Dog Rabbit?
oonga replied to koolietas's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Lilysmum where abouts in Melbourne did you see Rabbit Cheap as? and what sort of price was it? -
firstly Steve is a female :p secondly you may find that the reason she said that about the meat off the bone is because it doesn't provide the correct ratio of calcium to phosphorous. so might be worth adding other sources of calcium such as cheese, powdered milk, egg shells etc... to balance it out, if you are going to just use muscle meat ;) i agree Steve has an excellent wealth of information

I have not bought these before, but am getting around to it ;) http://search.ebay.com.au/search/search.dl...&category0= even with postage a box of 200 would be less than $1 per pigs ear

Tilly, Big Hugs to you all

Gomez, one of my workmates doesn't have air freshener in her toilet, she just lets first time visitors know about the matches and their purposes in the toilet LOL she swears by this method!!!
-
Kristie maybe it is a maturing thing, and nothing to do with the food. she is going for top dog with killer farts!! LOL hey she will fit right in with the rotties at training or maybe she has already learnt some bad lessons from them LOL sorry just being silly here
-
Poodle Wrangler, thanks for your link i mostly feed those foods and i am fortunate to have a freezer to fit all the meat and bones in :D our local poultry place does big crate type boxes of chicken frames, whole ones with the bum still there LOL for $5 / box. or 6 for $2 i am talking to someone about going halves in a box i am only feeding one dog so that would be a LOT of frames to get through even with the freezer LOL although if i were to feed 1 a day it would be about a months worth, but i do like to give other RMB as well
-
ness, i agree i am looking into getting their training treats from what i have heard dogs absolutely love them, plus they are very good for them i figure i could use it sparingly to reward very good behaviour they actually have training treats, i wonder how they differ in price and usability from the regular food ?
-
from the prices i have seen it is around $28 for 1kg it does sound like awesome food, but sadly well over my budget!! i wouldn't mind trying some for our cat though, he doesn't need as much food, or perhaps if i had a smaller dog LOL but i worked using the calculations on the ziwipeak website that to feed a 40kg dog on this food at the recommended amount a 1 kg bag would last about 3 days!!! obviously i could feed it for 1 meal and the rest RMB, but it would still be way over our budget
-
i am not doubting the quality of ziwipeak, but according to their website, the recommended daily food guide for a 40kg dog is 379grams. basically a 5kg bag would not last a full fortnight, i worked out around 13 days although i do think i will have to check out prices for their treats, and give them very sparingly for VERY good behaviour as a regular food it is way over my budget.... no matter how much i love my dog and want the best for her it is simply financially impossible ;)

poodlefan, i wouldn't have a clue?? she is only 18months old and i had her on it a good six months or more ago? i did try her on it several times since then, but have donated the rest of it to someone i know whose dogs thrive on it she does great on a mix of dry food about 2 cups three/four times a week (Nutro and now Eagle pack holistic) she also gets about 500grams of RMB's and on the days she doesn't have dry food she has mix of meat, a bit of offal and fruit veggie mix. or just ox cheek or other muscle meat plus some brewers yeast and kelp mixed in. and fish oil tablets (2) daily. does this sound gluten intolerant?? -

my girl didn't really like it, lost condition on it very quickly, i even tried to add more meat and various meats but made no difference. Her poops were huge and she did about 3 or 4 after each meal!!! but then i have heard of several people who feed multiple dogs the VAN and have fantastic looking dogs and their dogs do excellent on it!! i guess it depends on the dog -
wrong thread

LOL@ Sagitarrian i emailed the company Orijen a few months ago and they said they were getting it into the country this year
-
thanks for the verification Kristie i was going to ask you about it on wednesday night at training LOL
-
THANK YOU !!! belijae!!! i am transferring that info now it makes perfect sense the way you have set it out!!! thank you ;) Hazz i have read the Ian Billinghurst book give a dog a bone, but it was a borrowed edition. i think from memory his percentages were more like 70% RMB?? i have not seen Lonsdale's books. i think i may have to invest in one, because i had it borrowed on limited time and it is definately a book i would want to refer back and forth to! what is the main difference between the Billinghurst and Lonsdale books / theories? cheers oonga

Isaviz, yes those percentages Shoemonster gave me were great, but were for that complete mix from Pet Chow, which i have yet to get to!! but i would need to change those percentages i think?? if i were using just a meat and vegie mix? also i am seriously hopeless at maths!! i am going to have to get someone to actually show me how to work those percentages out and i mean like really basic stuff like what buttons to press on the calculator to get the amounts! i tried to do it ages ago and the numbers i got were not right LOL actually i just had another look at the figures in that link and i really would only need to add a bit of offal, maybe sardines once or twice a week and some yoghurt, with the meat and veggie mix ... i think LOL i like the idea of getting it delivered though
-
cavnrott, is this person also good with advising amounts to feed, and other things to add as well, like eggs sardines etc... do you feed any dry food with this mix?
-
So would Kristie have meant that the EVO is sold at 4 paws and more? Cowanbree i hadn't thought of doing that. i thought that would only be if you were buying in bulk? i only have 1 dog to feed LOL
-
Kristie, do you mean Orijen is available at 4 paws and more?? have you tried it, if so what do you think of it?
-
thanks Tollersowned for the feedback on the EVO hopefully the Orijen will be in australia soon, that is similar to EVO in the sense that it has no grains. and hopefully it will be available at several places
-
is that the one that is only available in Pets Paradise? i would love to try Innova EVO, it sounds great according to what i have read, but is only available in Pets Paradise.
-
and i think Eagle Pack also use their own machines to process the foods, rather than share as apparently some of the other companies do, so there is no trace elements etc... found. but i am not totally sure about all this can anyone else confirm?

Barfers - What Mince Do You Feed?
oonga replied to Sayreovi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Mr R & Miss NR i will have to get in touch with you to let you know what day i can make it and maybe we could catch up for your lunch break ? we just have a small freezer and it has like 3 drawers, so one is for half ours half Maia, the other is for Maia the last is for us. i also love to have frozen meals for us, so i can just cook rice or pasta etc... otherwise i resort to too much take away  used to be fine without Maia LOL but now we need one of those freezers the size of a fridge LOL hmmm maybe a second hand one would do for now? just i also want one that is power efficient. our little one is about 20 years old!!! and still goes great, if only it could grow like our dogs LOL
