Loves: Cheese, car rides, dressing up. Hates: Shower's or water for that matter. with the breeder at there house when we first picked him, 4 or 5 weeks old. Name: Dante Sex: Male DOB: 13/03/2007 Colour: Black and Tan Breed: GSD Hobbies: Following mummy around, annoying Paris, walkies, obediance school. Loves: Food, especially if it's in Paris's bowl, belly rubs, getting my hair brushed. Hates: The car and when mum and dad go out (has a tantrum and throws his toys and couch cushions all over the backyard and garage!!!!) Left him inside once and he destroyed everything he could, even an extention lead that was rolled up and on a shelf. His couch in the garage I sometimes find dragged in the middle of the room. (It's kept against the wall!)
  2. This happened to Dante as well, although he is 6 months old, this is his first spring. Everyone has also told me that its to do with allergies aswell. We have now mowed our lawn and his nose isnt runny anymore. Poor babies. Good luck with your pooch.
  3. this Dante wouldn't happen to be one of those cutie-pie frenchies would he? No Dante is my GSD. Paris is my Frenchie, she will be 2 in december (i will set a a profile for each of them when i get time ) i should be house cleaning now this is Paris this is Dante (not the best pic)
  4. That is a big fear of mine when giving my two bones. What can be done if your dog does happen to choke?
  5. Just wanted to say That I too have a Dante who was born on the 13/03/2007, how weird (but great ) is that!!! Cute pup by the way
  6. As per Kelpie-i's post, Birgulparis. Your dog is maturing and the above are signs of HIS impression that HE is higher up the heirarchy ladder than you ..... or at least he is asserting himself knowing the potential of being so. You're ignoring him (which in essence is the correct thing to do) but HE is pushing the boundary - and of course we can't ignore behaviour that hurts us. If you're not sure about what to do regarding re-establishing your leadership (as your dog sees it) then get some help either from a dog school (check that the instructors know and understand dog behaviour and can help you there - obedience training is very good but by itself does not dictate leadership .... that's starts at home ) or have someone give you a private lesson to explain and show you what to do. NILIF is one of the things you can do and is a very good and relatively simple but often effective program. It is all about doing things on YOUR terms and not the dog's. If you feel that you are being challenged by your dog, then get some help in. Thanks Erny and Kelpie-i, I will talk to the instuctors on wednesday (going to KCC on wednesday nights for obediance Kelpie-i ) Cheeky Dante is pushing his luck!!!! Definatley will seek there advice, can let you know what Im advised if you like Falling_dawn ???
  7. Hi, can I also ask an opinion on this subjset. Dante is my 6 month old GSD and he used to be very mouthy when we first got him. Turning our backs on him and a few other things helped to control him with this. However latley he will be walking up behind me and as he approaches my side he will bite at my hands (which really hurts as he now has big doggy teeth) or other times if he is sitting next to me and i am patting him he will bite my hands if i stop. What should i be doing besides the "no" or ignoring him? (making sense?)
  8. Isn't it to do with Dominance? Paris (my Frenchie) does it to Dante (my GSD) at times!!
  9. Well sounds good, can I get a contact number then please and what does ADT stand for? Can I also get a direct contact number for this too please? Thanks guys.
  10. The problem with saturdays is if I work the sunday, i take the saturday off, so unfortunatley mornings aren't ideal, due to me needing a sleep in as I really need the time to unwind. (It sounds selfish I know.) Yeah I am preferring an afternoon class. One that starts around 6:30/7:00.
  11. Hi guys, We have started Dante in obedience class, but have found that we miss out on classes due to the fact that its an early sunday morning class. The problem with that is it is usually OH and my only day off, if you can call it that. And ATM OH is working sunday's and I will be aswell for the next month. So for now sundays are no good. The four of us (OH, Paris, Dante and myself) are all going for evening walks once we have come home from work (before we eat dinner), but I would really prefer Dante to do more obedience. So does anyone know of a night class that we could attend (after we have finished work.from7:00pm) We live in Narre Warren, and it doesnt have to be in Narre, can drive out. Our (well OH's) other decision is to arrange a trainer to come get him do the training with him then drop him home, but I would rather it be us, more to the point of the bonding. Any advise will be appreciated. TIA.
  12. Sorry I wont be much help but this is what I was told with my two. Paris my frenchbulldog (9.6kg) can be feed adult food by 12months as thats when she is considered an adult. Dante my GSD will need to be 2yrs old by the time he can start eating adult. Something to do with being a larger breed, and the way his bones grow. Hope you get the aswer you need.
  13. Paris grew out of it too. I did have to encourage everyone to not act overly excited themselves when they saw her as their excitment over excited her!!! (Tounge twister.)
  14. Talk to the breeder, they should no more than anyone if this is common!!! Poor puppy!
  15. Oh this brings back memories. I had the same problem with Paris!!! I dont know how to attach an old thread but if you search my topics, go back to the start of my post's and you will see that I posted one regarding the same thing. Did get LOTS of advice from other DOLers. For me, Paris grew out of it, but I had to really watch her signs (her ears would go back) and the fact she figured out she got attention (not always positive attention) from me when I relised she'd wet the bed. My dog, I was rotating FOUR beds at atime. Good luck, keep us posted!
  16. Hi. My Paris is also an "itchy dog." Our vet found that pollen(sp?) (is that spelt right? Its doing my head in!!!) was attached to her belly (not much hair there to protect her) it would irritate har and cause her to rub herself until she bleed so she had a needle is on Prednil (takes one every 2nd day) and we are to use Malaseb medicated foam and Aloveen oatmeal intensive conditioner on her for this whole month. He also told us unless we get rid of the weeds and keep our grass short she will just go through it all again once the tablets have stopped. (Our garden was just a LITTLE neglected ) But im surprised to see so many dogs with the same symptoms. A bit like humans and hayfever hey? That time of the year. All the best with your dog
  17. how about watering down the milk??? Or adding ice blocks to the water (maybe water is a little warm?) Good luck
  18. What a beautiful message, so touching!!!! By your words its obvious how much Loki meant to you, I couldnt begin to know how you are feeling but I am so sorry. At least she had a happy life with you. All the best.
  19. I hope not, as we give Paris icecream in a cone every day to cool down. Oh and she had ice cream cake for her first b'day. Would love some pics.
  20. OMG i just saw this thread. I cant believe I missed out. I live no more than 15mins away. Not 100% about boxing day, but will deff be there for plenty of others. I train every 2nd thursday of the month with Paris and I will start showing her again as of January. I cant believe I missed this. Feel free to PM me when ever there is a meet at KCC!!
  21. Im sorry for this poor dog, how sad
  22. I give them to Paris but I will admit I give her cooked ones! Im too scared to give her raw meat, in case its makes her sick. But I was also told it helps fatten them up. Is that true? Regardless Paris loves them.
  23. Sorry about your loss- just remember all the good times. Your dog sounded like a great companion. RIP Jess.
