  2. It depends if you want to have a holiday/break and pickup your puppy up at same time. Airfares from Adelaide to Melbourne and return may outweight any potential cost savings by not sending puppy by consigned freight. Passenger Airfare Adl/Mel/Adl is say $65.00 each way so $130.00 plus crate hire $45.00 = $175.00 even before any airline charges for Passenger animal. As consigned freight Melbourne/Adelaide including new crate as a guide is approx $145.00. Also all pets have to be lodged at freight centre at Melbourne which is approx 1.5km away from terminal, so you may require a taxi (or walk 3 km) plus animals must be lodged 1.5-2.0 hours before schedule departure time (whether passenger animal or consigned freight). If you were coming to Melbourne anyway, then there may be a benefit but if you were making a special flying visit then costs of fares etc may outweight any perceived savings. Thank you for the detailed reply, Appreciate that heaps! I rang 1 company today (Dogtainers) and have been quoted $134 including create hire for 10kg from Melbourne to Adelaide. Glad the information may have helped! Hire crate is normally about $10.00 cheaper ($45.00-Hire crate) than purchase crate @ $55.00 for purchase new PP40 crate, some companies sell PP40 for as much as $98.00) With a puppy at 10kg Mel/Adl, pricing as a guide should be around the $125.00-$135.00.

  4. As a guide, based on information provided $165.00 (Melbourne Airport to Brisbane Airport) including new PP40 crate which owners can keep. (Unaccompanied rate) Expect to pay around $140.00 including crate hire for accompanied rate (Virgin) plus your ticket price.
  5. Hume Council recently approved a new kennel and the requirement they have is that someone (responsible person over 18 years of age) must be onsite 24/7 if there is an animal on site. How are these Industrial zone facilities getting away with no one on site 24/7? Are councils, when issuing permits, not requiring responsible people to be on grounds 24/7 or owners of these establishments not abiding in an effort to save some money? It appears the $$$$$ come before the animals in their care! Maybe DPI should mandate that owners sign waivers to state that they are aware that there is no one on site between certain hours! The practice of no one on site should be stopped before it becomes the norm. Traditionally many kennels in the past have been family businesses whereas over than past few years a few are trying to commercialise them, owning more than one establishment and having a management staff operating them. If dog breeders & chook farmers have been getting people jumping their fences and having people entering and filming their sheds/facilities, what is to stop people from entering boarding kennels? Surely having happy pets in your care also has to ensure their safety and security whilst in your care.
  6. Flights for tomorrow: 9:55 Albury 11:15 Sydney 13:40 Albury 15:00 Sydney 16:50 Albury 17:55 Sydney Cost is about $80.00 in PP20 size crate Bookings required.
  7. Sometime puppies/kittens, can suffer from dry mouth. Once the mouth is lubricated the cough subsides. Can occur in humans also! Only a vet will be able to identify what the cough is about.
  8. Flight is normally Dubbo/Sydney/Melbourne and can be undertaken in a matter of a few hours. Bookings should be made a couple of days in advance. Depending on age and weight of puppies they may be able to travel in the same container, helping to keep costs down.
  9. Were the puppies dropped at the airport (by you) and collected from the receiving airport (by new owners), or were they dropped off at another address and then taken to the airport and/or collected from another address to the airport? Was the symptoms immediately after the flight or days later?
  10. With regard to crates leaving the UK the current stipulation in the UK is that: All Kennels must be either ISPM15 compliant wooden kennels or made of plastic. Depending on where the crate has been, it may be required to be fumigated before being allowable for re-export. Most timber crates cost around $200-300 mark. I have two dogs (Shih Tzus) coming back from Scotland (been there for 9 month stay) and their cost for return is around 2500 pounds using existing PP30 crates, includes transit permit in Dubai and out of hours vet sealing at Heathrow, collection and deliveries at Heathrow, paperwork and agency fees plus import permit fee and quarantine. Both dogs had their rabies and RNATT tests before leaving Australia and are still current with their rabies. No need for waiting, so as soon as client sets date, obtain import permit and they come back to Australia and do 30 day quarantine (as it currently stands!).
  11. OMG!!!! I come onto DOL, first time in days, due to my workload, scrolling away and to see a heading directed to me (in both General and Breeders sections) and to be presented with these accolades is very heartwarming, emotional and embarrassing. Thank you very much to you all. As you know I try to listen to everything that you want in a pet transporter and I am lost for words having read your comments. It is extremely gratifying to know that people think so highly of things that I am doing for them and for their pets. Once again, thankyou. Edited to add: (in both General and Breeders sections)

  13. No official information has been forwarded to indicate that a reduction in quarantine time may or will occur, it is only speculation. The speculation has stemmed from a review of DAFF/Australian Quarantine that are periodically undertaken. I have/had a few Category 4 dogs coming to Australia go via NZ where 10 days Quarantine is required. They then do a 80 day minimum residence (total minimum time in NZ of 90 days-Quarantine plus residence) and then can enter Australia from there as long as they meet all veterinary requirements. During the minimum 80 day residence period, dogs can be shown towards NZ titles. This arrangement seems to satisfy a lot of o/s breeders that do not want young dogs to do a 30 day stint in quarantine.
  14. Pet Movers Australia has been around for over 20 years mainly doing International Pet Relocation. They are based in Newport Victoria and they are not part of DogMovers or any other organisation. They advertise in yellow pages and their website www.pet-movers.com.au. The other website www.petmovers.com.au is a domain name that was brought by the people that own Ozpetshop and it is a stagnant site. Prestige Pet Movers is a Sydney based company, the owner/s used to work for Animal Travel in Sydney until around two-three years ago. Petmovers.com is a US based organisation that I have heard of but really do not know a great deal about other than what is on their website.
  15. Have you had a look at the website www.boardingkennels.org This site has a wealth of information, mainly overseas kennels.
  16. You could try Melbourne Dog Centre at Rosebud. They manufacture their own and would be close to you if backup service is required.
  17. Currently, nine months is the earliest time if everything goes like clockwork. If rabies is given late or RNATT testing samples are drawn later than 30 days then this will increase time/age of dog. Rabies vaccination at 3 months of age (minimum age), RNATT bloods drawn 30 days later (gives time for antibodies to produce). Countdown of 150 days (5 months) begins on day of blood is taken/drawn. After 150 days the dog then has minimum stay in quarantine of 30 days (at present) (Note Total times of quarantine stay from dates blood is drawn has to be minimum 180 days combined).
  18. GST has been placed on some "Show dogs/breeding stock" coming in from NZ. I say some because not all dogs/cats coming in from NZ have had to pay GST. This can be dependent on the Customs Officer serving you at Customs House. If you are relocating to Australia and you pet comes across as part of your removal, then likely no GST is payable. In order for the GST to be worked out, you normally have to involve a Customs Broker who also charges for their service, around $140.00 in most cases. GST payable has ranged from nothing, to 10% of estmated value to 10% of estimated value plus freight charges. I have had one case in the last two years that GST was payable with over 150 pets collected during this time. I currently have a dog from a European country that I arranged transport for in NZ that will be coming across to Australia in a couple of months, I expect GST to be payable, as GST was payable when he entered NZ and documentary eveidence will follow with him as a NZ GST Credit will be applied when he departs NZ. BTW: NZ GST is 15% of value of the pet plus freight charges.
  19. CC, Have also sent you an PM. You can only fly freight animals out of Canberra Airport on Qantas/Australian Air Express. Unfortunately AaE @ Canberra Airport is closed now (2100pm) and reopens at 0800AM for bookings. Do people in Canberra have a crate? or access to a crate? The people in Canberra may be able to get on flight over weekend, although restricted flight times exist on weekends. Flights with freight animals normally have to conclude by 1500PM. Send me a PM if you need assistance. Wayrod
  20. As for timeline for travel for pups. (1) The puppy must be 16 weeks old for the Rabies Vaccination (2) The puppy must wait 14-30 days after the Rabies for the Titre testing (3) Under AQIS regulations the soonest a puppy can travel is 60 days after the blood draw date for the titre testing so you are looking at 6 months of age before travel as a minimum age. .....and quarantine now has to be paid for at time of booking space, no more time or progress payments.
  21. On July 9 2012 the Govt indicated the new quarantine facility would be located in Donnybrook Road, Mickleham, Victoria, (near Kal Kallo on Hume Freeway) about 15 minute drive from Melbourne Airport. All imports will be housed there, not just cats and dogs. The facilities at: Spotswood, Eastern Creek, and Bylands (dogs and cats) will be closed once operational around 2014/2015, they suggest full occupation of site around 2017. How this will work with international flight movements will be interesting as not all international airlines currently fly into Melbourne. As for the new import draft, this would bring Australia in line with New Zealand (except Quarantine Stations in NZ are privatised and in Aust they will remain controlled by the Commonwealth Government). In NZ they currently offer a 10 day quarantine, in most cases, from certain countries. Dogs must then spend a remaining 80 days resident in NZ before being eligible for export (plus veterinary requirements) to Australia from there, but during that 80 day period they can attend shows and be campaigned. Quarantine fees for 10 day stay in NZ is around the $1300-1400NZD including MPI (Govt Quarantine inspection) fees which is currently comparable with a 30 day stay in AQIS Quarantine Facilities.
