  1. Two 'Bull mastiff's attacked a woman in her garden up the road here a few months ago. Everyone media report confirmed the dogs as Bull mastiffs but turns out the dogs were tan cross breeds. I would be interested to actually see a photo of this dog, the one on the story seems to be a general archive photo? I'd also love to know the stats of dog bites, how many are pedigree dogs.... I'm sure they bite - but less likely IMO.
  2. Yes my Tzu didn't suit BARF at all, bad mouth staining. I guess it's just a matter of finding what suits the one particular dog. GErtie has a very full, long beard though so I don't think any kind of wet food would help her, hence she is just on dry (black hawk) and necks.
  3. Hoping someone can help Bulldust with her dogs in this flood!
  4. I find diet makes a big difference for the staining. I switched to BARF for one dog when he had it quite badly and it all grew out and didn't ever come back. For my current little fluffy I feed her dry food and she has no mouth staining at all since I got her.
  5. Choppers can only carry so much. In a mass rescue it is unreasonable to expect your pets to be rescued over human life further down the road. I absolutely agree with LizT. I would do all in my power to safe my pets but not at the cost of any human life.
  6. When I die I want to come back as one of your kids! They just seem so happy and are always enjoying themselves.
  7. Glad Im not the one picking up his poo!
  8. Cordy has heaps of her black Lab begging.
  9. Crate train your pup so that your older dog can have some time out. Good luck!
  10. Being on acreage I would avoid coated breeds. I find my guys get twenty times more dirty here than they did in town.
  11. Oh I don't know about that! All of my Tzu's have loved lying around on their thrones being admired. None of mine would every get their tushies muddy - waaaay too precious. Give them an altar and a slave and they're set.
  12. Shih Tzu's do that! I didn't ever think I'd be a little dog fan until I started doing rescue and took on my first one - it was all over from there.
  13. I'm lucky, I've only ever met cool little Chi's. I love them
  14. That's awful, but just a horrible accident and not you're fault. Poor little piggie.
  15. Dan you can buy insulation packs from Enfield produce. Might be cheaper to buy a kennel, insulate it yourself and have someone just build you an eave. Pet Barn have gorgeous kennels atm with eaves but from memory perhaps not big enough for a Dane. Looks for a 2nd hand cubby on ebay too? But then there's getting it home....$.
  16. Clyde, I'm pretty sure that foxes would not leave any evidence, only a few feathers, if you actually found your chickens dead, it was not a fox. Don't be too hard on yourself, you've ogt to do what you got to do. To the OP, no flaming, ultimately, you had dogs on your property killing your stock, you were well within your rights. I'm sorry you feel so bad, and I'm sorry to all involved, including the dogs. Really? I'm so anxious about it. I found where one girl was eaten near the coop, just her head and intestines left behind. The other two were taken with just a trail of feathers. Whatever ate her lay in the paddock with a horse, sheep and goats. I wonder if a fox would be that ballsy? I am too frightened to even let the girls out during the day anymore.
  17. I think Stormie is near the Hawksebury. Can't remember the name of the clinic but a few DOL'ers go there and love it! also Gladesville VEts are fab!
  18. PAWS NSW always have Tzu's needing homes. Denise's dogs are all in foster homes so you get a good idea of what they are like. She sends some dogs interstate. I am in love with Gilbert and Peter Rabbit Ohhh and Huey! http://www.paws.com.au/
  19. Great dogs! They can be yappy, most of mine have been. My current one starts and I swear she forgets she's yapping as she would keep going til I told her to stop. High maintenance on the grooming side, plus keeping their eyes and face clean. I feed mainly dry food and chicken necks so as to avoid mushy wet food through the beard. They are happy little dogs who love toys and playing. Fab with kids who treat them well but will snap if threatened or someone is too rough. My current girl Gertrude is full of herself and 'owns' the couch. I've found them prone to jealousy with other pets but if you are firm and set the boundaries they are great little dogs. They can be ruined if spoilt and allowed the run of the place. Mine is not spoilt (much ) and gets her nose out of joint if another pet wants to share the couch or my bed. She is also an expert sulker! They can be hard to toilet train but GErtrude is great on that front unless it is raining - God forbid that she should get her fluffy little paws wet I love their zest for life. They love zoomies too. Mine sleeps all day (10yrs) but gets her 5 minutes zoomies at 5pm each day and she's had enough. Always up for a game and a cuddle - I think they're terrific little dogs! Gertie is good with cats, chooks, goats, sheep etc but hates the horse. :D She also has little dog complex and will carry on at other big dogs despite always living with one. I highly recommend going through a reputable breeder. They can have skin issues (mine does) and you will need good strong legs for agility. None of mine have been overly obedient. They live to please themselves and will only do what their slaves want them to do if it suits them. I swear mine gives me the finger when I ask her to do something. Excuse her scruffiness, in the middle of moving/renovating. She always seems to have her nose in the air which I love:
  20. They have one set up in their shop so you can go and try it yourself with your own dog.
  21. If it's the one Im thinking of they are in Terrey Hills http://www.chemikol.com.au/ I thought they were about 20k?
  22. You poor thing, I totally sympathize A similar thing happened to me last week. Since I moved here the neighbours ACD has been coming on to my property. Ive spent a fortune on good fencing keeping my own pets and stock as safe as possible. He would get in to my garbage and stir my dogs up but he wouldnt let me near him. I learned from my other neighbours that he had killed their chooks then last week found him in my stock paddock with my lamb and chooks. I chased him out and blocked up the hole he had dug. I then left a friendly note for my neighbour asking if he could please keep his dog in as I worry about the lamb and chooks. He came around and apologized. The next day 3 of my 4 chooks were killed. I dont know if it was his dog or not but left another note saying the chooks were killed and and said it may have been his dog or a fox. I offered to help him construct a way to keep his dog in. Two days later he came over and said he had taken his dog to the pound. I felt so awful as there was no proof. I would have helped him do something to contain his dog, or at the least help rehome him straight in to another home rather than the pound. I keep thinking about his dog and wondering if he was rehomed or pts. It felt like he took very drastic action. Lovely man though who also insisted on paying for the chickens. It keeps running through my mind that maybe it was just foxes.
  23. Max will give any advice you need. I've used a lot of vets due to moving around but keep going back to him as he is THE BEST He's a really lovely person too and always explains things very clearly. I nursed for him many years ago and his behind the scenes care is brilliant, he really genuinely cares about your pet. He was wonderful to work for too.
  24. Oh god, hopefully people will be able to help.
