And I would like to add to the list! And know I have quite a few of you as FB friends, I know real names, which isnt quite as embarrassing when making introductions! But now I have to try and remember DOL and real names and get it right..........At least I know everyones dog breed and their names Oh and I saw all Millies results in the K9 news too!! there were quite a few names I recognised! And look at hime I think puppy schools can be good but I will never ever again go to one that is just a free for all with puppies getting smacked down all over the place, especially with smaller puppies. That is what is so good about Carolyn's classes at Train A Pup Time. We had two teeny tiny little fluffy white puppies in our class, along with a PugX, a BorderX and another Goldie. From memory, Paddy was the only one who would play with the little fluffies but it certainly wasn't a free-for-all. The other thing to keep in mind is the 8 to 12 week period is the BEST time to get them socialised. I am sure the reason we have a lot of DA dogs are because they aren't socialised at all when young, or miss out completely in that 4 week window. Sounds like agility is a very entertaining sport!!! Want to try my hand at that this year! I will have to get some tips for books and dvds to get me started...Bunbury is the closest club, but i dont see myself getting there too ofter Mason - will find you and say hi. I have been trying to find the name and author of that darn book to no avail!! It was one I borrowed from my breeder, even emailed her but havent heard back yet! I might ring her tonight and annoy her ETA My puppy preschool classes were good! Zola and a GSD pup were the biggest there, Zola was the most annoying!!! We all kept our pups on leads and only a few at a time were allowed to interact - big and small included! Def wouldnt want t free for all!!! Hers is one I might consider for a future puppy, but definitely won't be doing another vet run one. $120 for 5 weeks and that included a fantastic 'gift bag' with really useful things. The classes are an hour long but Carolyn avails herself for as long as needed. I was often leaving at 10.30am after having arrived at 8.45am for a 9-10 class. She is very mindful of all the dogs and and really, I can't say a bad thing about her! I also attended the Vet puppy classes and paid $80 for four 1 hour classes. It wasn't a free-for-all but not as controlled, and not as good information as Carolyn's class. Can't speak highly enough of Carolyn's classes and can't emphasise the 8 to 12 week socialisation period enough - as if you can't tell eta - Carolyn's classes are held in her back yard - tunnel, lawn mower, chooks, horses, paddling pool etc. Vet classes were held in vet reception area. We have finally organised to have a holiday after all the hard work building new house and are looking at hiring a camper trailer and spending 10 days down south west WA in May. Has anyone got some recommendations for pet friendly camping and places to explore? Would love to hear everyones experiences, this will be the first time we have camped with her and are really looking forward to it. Hello BCPuppy just wanted to say hi. Don't know if i can be of too much help! We camped WAAAAY south at Bremer Bay in a dog friendly caravan park that had beach access (was a bit of a hike down a bush trail to the sea) and Rosie loved it. But it is 5hours away and would be COLD in May - it was cold in late Dec at night when we were there! Also, we recently took Rosie on a holiday to Peppermint Grove Beach, just outside of Busselton and that has alot of dog friendly beaches down there. We didn't camp though, we stayed in a house :-) Hopefully someone else can add something for you :-) RS - we saw a certain lab nick off to go toilet, and then have a lovely romp around.... unlike the crazy zzzzooooooooommmmmmmyyyy Rosie did after finishing her little course. (maybe i can blame all her problems on that!!!?!? LOL) I enrolled her in obedience classes as soon as i could so she could get some controlled socialisation, but I have to say, fingers crossed, she is not DA. In fact she just loves every dog and everyone (might resource guard a bag she finds at agility these days....... ;-) ) So perhaps it depends on the dog as well? She came from a breeder who has kennels, but puppies were kept on veranda in play pen so they could see the comings and goings on in/around the house. Agree with both of you, 8-12 weeks is very important, with Trixie she had a puppy play date with Cider who was a little bit older than her (can't resist posting a cute puppy photo) and other dogs I knew and trusted. She isn't too bad but doesn't care much for strange dogs which is not surprising for her breed (she doesn't care much for strange people either!) But she luuuuuurrrvesss her 'friends' Her puppy date with Cider: it was a bit of a smackdown at first Then the tables turned But there were no hard feelings :p Nawwww ;) I'm pretty sure Amypie told me Trixie is in Yep sure is At the Western Classic (in 2014 ) RS - we saw a certain lab nick off to go toilet, and then have a lovely romp around.... unlike the crazy zzzzooooooooommmmmmmyyyy Rosie did after finishing her little course. I think Mason that your pup will be born a couple of months before mine? The mother-to-be for mine isn't due in season until June. Yep - I think a lot of it is nature - Kyzer was probably half broken when we got him - if any dog needed super careful socialisation it was Kyzer! Unfortunately the puppy school we went to didn't offer that If only I knew then what I know now hey! Ooohhhh can I come to the DOL puppy school?!??! I've been sitting her for past five minutes going... hhhhmmmm..... and just couldn't think what it meant!! hehehe Not many of my friends living near us have dogs, so i think at least a couple of visits to puppy school will be made for the socialisation! There'll be lots of play dates with my parents dog as well (a 9/10 week old Cavalier). Am very excited. Love those pics amypie!! I've received my first response back from one of my enquirie emails! The lady sounded very lovely in her response and was quite happy to provide lots of information and answered all my questions! Unfortunately i nearly fell out of my chair when i saw the price of her pups!! I didn't realise it would be that pricey! $1200 for a puppy on the limited register.
