Elbie, Hoover, Dodge & Friends!

And Kuma - I was expecting blood and gore! That's just a hoof!........And a very contented puppy! Ha!

yeah, so it's not that bad... some vegitarians would be distressed at the thought that Kuma has a bag of random pig bits in the freezer and enjoys chomping on them. nomnomnomnom

My Mum rang last night and told me she had to put to sleep our old dog Puppy - he was dying from heart failure. He'd been coughing really bad for nearly the past year, and then yesterday he didn't get up anymore. Mum was really upset - he was her dog really - and last night I got out the old photos and had a bit of a cry....... So.

I'm so sorry about Puppy. Great stories... he shoulds like a special little guy.

Lilli_star: naw... Ruby is soooo CUTE!

Speaking of photo ops, I'd love a photo of the lady-like Genevieve sitting on Kuma's back.

*off to start training Kuma to sit still long enough*

I love the pig trotter carnage - love how it looks like Kuma's already polished off the pig and is now working on the trotters. Elbie has lamb flaps and then gets Lamb Flap Breath and wants to breathe it all over us ... :(

mwah ha ha ha ! Apparently it's a random bag of pig bits that the OH got from Lachlan Valley Meats in Fyshwick, so there is potential that he will eat most of a pig

James looked so happy with the results of his Destruction. Poor Oscar ... soon he and badger will be running over whatever the soft toy equivalent of the Rainbow Bridge is. :( We just bought Elbie a Tuffie so hopefully that will stump him for a while.

The Great Toy Box In The Sky...

Poor Hippo - I've seen those toys but I decided that Kuma is just as happy with the plastic bottle and that he wouldn't appreciate the bottle hugger. Mr Panda was a moment of weakness last visit to Pet Barn when I was buying his food. Man, I should just buy shares in that place for the amount of dosh I've spent there in the last 10 months. :o

Re the Great Partay: I was actually thinking of a Saturday arvo BBQ in Forde near the dog park. They have nice under cover bbq's where the dogs could stay on leash and then head over to the dog park for some off leash fun (Elbie's choice if he stays and plays or not... ). In response to questions re presents: Kuma is a big fan of the discount bin... Don't spend too much, anything that squeaks and he is in heaven! (his "father" and I - not so much :xmastree: )

Think that's about it... sorry if I have missed anything, having posting issues this morning!

ETA: Niques - I forgot the James Story! So Sorry... He was a cute bubba! so squishy and wombatty.

 Niques bought a wombat! Niques bought a wombat! :(

 He was delightfully wombatlike. Lab puppies are ridiculously pudgy and stout.

He bears a striking resemblance to many animals, actually. He used to look quite piggish when he hung his head down and his hears flopped forward. He's getting quite leggy though, so is a little tall for the pig look these days. And then there's his spread-eagle sprawl on the ground that is affectionately termed his dugong pose.

Elbie sometimes has a pig-like way about him. Especially when he snuffles at the bottom of closed doors like truffle-hunting pig or a scary stalker. :rainbowbridge:

This photo ...

ETA: KumaAkita - the Forde idea is a great one. Elbie has Extra Obedience Classes on Sat. mornings (call it Summer School) but we're free in the arvos. It will be fun! There are of course some ahem logistics I will need to resolve. :(

haha... Its great to see a dog of similar age to our BC Maisie. Elbie has a great deal more tricks up his sleeve, but they are on par for detroying bedding!

 I think if you look at MavericksMission's earlier post that MM might possibly win for having the most awesome Destructor around. :rainbowbridge: Although yes, Elbie in his "Destruction of the Aldi Cushion While On Candid Camera" does take the cake.

Welcome to the thread and please post photos of BC Maisie. Clastic has 2 borders and Tigers12 is waiting for a border collie pup to be delivered by the stork ...

I have read similar things to this through the tread and I was just wondering why Elbie wouldn't stay to play with the other dogs? You can tell me to mind my own business but was just interested...

 It's ok, you can ask. Elbie's a bit of a social mutant. He has been socialised since an early age with people and other dogs - puppy class, beginners class, bronze class. He is not shy, not afraid and is very happy to be around and next to other dogs and play near them and will chase a frisbee BUT ... he doesn't seem to enjoy actually playing WITH them. :( He doesn't enjoy being chased, he doesn't like body-slams ...

In class, he is ok if the next dog crawls over onto his mat and eats his head and treads all over him - but in the open area, he will not initiate play. If a ball or a frisbee is thrown he will chase it but if other dogs go for it - he will walk away. It's a bit weird, I know. In class, the giant dogs frequently nibble on him, squash him and slobber on him and he ends up with dog drool all over his head and he's relaxed ...

I've consulted with Kelpie people and they've said that Kelpie's don't like other dogs getting in their face during play so it's possible that it's the Kelpie in him ... He is getting better - for instance, he knows wuffles' dog Ava pretty well now and will seek her out to say hello even though he doesn't play. I'm comfortable he's not fearful - it's the chasing/playing thing that I'm dealing with right now. :rainbowbridge:

Hahaha, Malamute puppies kind of look like fat wombats too :rainbowbridge:

This is my guy Odin when he was a puppy. I think this was the first day he came home (It was a long time ago!)

He was killed in 2003, and it's taken me this long to be able to want another dog, and I am now quite excited about eventually bringing our Dobe puppy home

So many people in this thread now, so hard to keep up!! :)

You guys are brave giving your dogs any bedding at all  Ours have a kennel with a concrete floor, sometimes it contains a carpet square if they haven't pulled it out and left it in the rain. They have a trampoline bed too but prefer to lie in the dirt.

You guys are also so good, keeping toys and repairing them :rainbowbridge: Once ours get the tiniest hole they're in the bin...

I gave ours an empty juice bottle when we went out yesteday, we came home to a completely mangled thing... they'd even managed to rip the stickers off and into a million little pieces! Clever doggies... OH said to me when I got home, "How old is this bottle? It looks like it's been in the yard for years..." ;)

Some of the funny moments we caught on camera this week while we were out... Vroooooooooom Satch chasing Ava. *10 seconds later* Vrooooooooom Ava chasing Satch. *10 seconds later* Vroooooooooom Satch chasing Ava. *10 seconds later* Vrooooooooom Ava chasing Satch. *rinse and repeat* At one point they were eating each other's faces when all of a sudden Satch looked up at the window where the webcam was set up and went "OMG. WHAT IS THAT?" *wide eyes...... goes back to playing* And of course a certain MATURE dog pulling the carpet out of the kennel and both of them playing tug-o-war with it... Ava even gave it the death shake :(

I had an appointment today at 10:30am so I stayed home this morning and sneakily hid from the dogs. Right on cue at 8:45am Ava started barking at Satch so I tiptoed up to the window and banged on it loudly. They both jumped backwards about a metre... Satch seemed to click that I was still home but Ava still looked confused 10 minutes later :( They didn't utter another peep until I left. Ava was fast asleep in one of their giant yard-holes when I left.

Satch and I made our comeback to obedience classes last night. He is just getting too naughty for my liking, so even though he'd previously done all the levels, we are back in Silver with him. He was a very good boy in general. He was so happy to be back there and kept play bowing at all the dogs in class. He is a really stubborn dog to train, totally different to Ava, so it shall be very challenging on my part. I'm sure KTB would be in fits of laughter watching us in class, he just has no clue

I would never laugh at you and Satch!! :mad

Love it. You need to do a poster. Satchmo: The Return to BDOC *cue dramatic trailer music*

Damn it, I'm sure I promised myself I'd stop looking at this thread in public - I've got a huge smirk on my face in the middle of the library  I assume people think I'm a bit insane. And that's ignoring the fact that I neeeeeed to finish this essay and this thread is a terrible, terrible distraction :)

Odin was such a cuddly puppy! When is your Dobe coming home? I've developed a new fondness for Dobermanns. We had a Dobermann join our class one week in Beginners because the rest of her class hadn't showed up - James was completely smitten. Very much in love with her. They're gorgeous dogs.

 Do you have the webcam footage, wuffles? I don't think I'd be able to risk hiding and watching them interact if I had a second dog. It's amusing enough watching James play with the other dogs at Obedience, let alone what he'd get up to with other dogs if he knew I wasn't looking! :mad

Oh ok, thanks for explaining! Has Elbie met any Frenchies? Asti loves to play and plays hard (when the dog isn't a staffy or a Mastiff she's freaked out by them)! so maybe Elbie and Asti wouldn't play well together, she doesn't understand that sometimes dogs 'just don't want to play with her' :mad

Wuffles et al - You guys have almost inspired me to find some sort of obedience/agility training in the Brisbane area for Asti and I to attend although I have a feeling I'd be realy out of place considering Frenchies aren't working dogs and everyone would laugh at me as sometimes she has a mind of her own and is so bloody stubborn... I'm thinking of rigging up some sort of 'home agility' course in our backyard instead.

For Canberrans ... Discount Pet Store in Oatley Court, Belconnen is waaaaaaaay cheaper than other places ... Also, OH hs advised me of the folowing:

- Reject Shop in Belco has no-name brand dog beds (the trampoline kind) for $20-40 which are way cheaper than Pet Barn

- Discount Pet Store has large metal crates at the back of their store. Prices are possibly $100 less than Pet Barn.

- Reject Shop also has some cheap cushioned mats.

OH has announced that we should only shop at Discount Pet Store from now on. They don't sell puppies so they're not an Evil Pet Store.

SammiS: I think I would probably pay for tickets to see Asti doing dog sports. All the audience would probably implode from the cuteness.

Neither Elbie nor I have ever met a Frenchie ... would love to, though

ETA: We're going to be donating a bunch of dog stuff (puppy food, toys etc) to rescue this weekend in case anyone has any dog stuff that they don't want anymore. We'll probably buy a few bags of dog food etc plus other stuff.

ravenau1: Odin was lovely. Can't wait until you have your new puppy with you so we can see photos :mad

 Niques bought a wombat! Niques bought a wombat!

When Elbie puts his ears back, he looks like a seal. We are very creative and call it his ... "seal look".

Wombats are my favourite Australian animal. If I had a chocolate Lab, Wombat would be a name I'd consider :mad

ETA Do any of you remember the kids tv show Wombat? Rereading my post I suddenly had the theme song in my head, well what I can remember....

Oi, come do obedience at Oxley  There's a little dachshund in James' class so a Frenchie will most definitely not be the most out of place dog  It doesn't seem to be one of the preferred clubs on DOL but it is easily the closest to me and I have no problem with them so I'm really not willing to go driving all over town early on a Sunday morning to some of the others.
