Help With Identifying Parasite On My Lab

Hi all, tonight I noticed Bo is infested with a small lice-like parasite on all four of his feet. He has maybe 20-40 of these little bugs on each foot, but nowhere else on his body that I can see. I have attached a couple of photos. If anyone could help identify these bugs and the treatment I would really appreciate it.

thanks.

I don't think they are fleas. they don't jump at all, they just crawl. And they are much smaller than your average flea. I should add he's been treated with advocate regularly since he was a pup and he had a dose just a couple of days ago.

Hard to tell from the photo but they could be either tiny baby ticks (my dog got covered in them when we stayed at a rellie's rural property - shudder!), or bird mites. You don't happen to keep chooks or have a lot of doves/pigeons visit your place at all do you? Warm humid weather seems to bring on an outbreak of these little nasties. If they are in a nest/chook house on your property they are a PITA to get rid of.

A strange thing just happened...when I clicked on the last photo to enlarge it...up came all this porno stuff.. :vomit: ...I din't look...just clicked out of it.

I had an unrelated site come up last night too and closed it quickly and didn't look further. I suggest maybe the OP could put your pics on photobucket or some safer site and/or ask your vet what the 'parasites' are.

edited for clarity

Great job on the photos. It's hard to capture anything that small. I can't answer the question, except to say, looks like two body segments and six or eight legs and they are tiny, hence good chance that they're not adults. I think that rules out insects which have three body segments and are worm-like in larval stage and makes it likely that they are Arachnids. If Bo is suffering, my guess is you might be able to smother these guys with some sort of oil. As a Labbie, he'll probably lick it off . . . but if you use a healthy veggie oil it won't do any harm other than adding some Joules to his diet. I'd be wary of using pesticides, many of which are nerve poisons and aren't good to apply to places that dogs lick..[Corrected taxonomy . . . I remembered wrong].
