Million Paws Walk 2012

We go most years, because the message coming across at the event I go to is very positive, focussed on responsible dog ownership and giving rescue dogs a chance, whether they come from the RSPCA or not.

The Perth one also has a positive message and promotes rescue and responsible dog ownership.

We had a good time at the one in Perth.

Shame about the irresponsible dog owner who was there that didn't muzzle their viscious dog. OH witnessed it mauling another smaller dog It had it in its mouth & was shaking it & wouldn't let go. There were 4 people trying to get it off it - kicking it, pulling its legs & trying to prise open its mouth. This was all in front of its owners who had small children who were all understandably hysterical as with anyone else who saw it. I'm just so glad that me & my son didn't see it.

OH said there was alot of blood & the little dog was in a bad way so not sure whether or not it would survive.

Bugger, I didn't know about that. I did hear a few altercations but wasn't near any of them and don't know how bad they were.

Most of the people we came into contact with were great.

I walked with the Great Dane Lovers Assoc of WA. We sort of got split up into splinter groups as we went through the bottleneck at the start but if you saw about 5-6 people with black danes walking together Cavstar, Rolf and I were among them.

I've put a bunch of photos from the day in Rolf's intro thread, and also listed as many breeds as I can remember from the day so I won't double up here, except for this one of Rolf with a chihuahua. :)

I like the way the Brisbane region Million Paws Walks have split into a number of venues. Once they used to be on one location, like the old Fairfield site, or the University of Qld or the old Botanical Gardens.

As it grew larger, it made sense to have a number of venues. Samford was the nearest to us this year. Our dogs have always enjoyed it.

I went to the Petrie one. Different walk than previous years. Most dogs were very well behaved and the temperature was lovely. Nice morning out.

I was at the Illawarra walk and we had a group of GORGEOUS Leonburgers There were about 10 I think. Plus the lady from a dog training school/breeder with her lovely South African Boerbulls. Such beautiful sooky dogs!!Edited to say: Kirah, Zeus and I spent the day with a friend and her most lovely and cuddly Akita!! Apparently they aren't supposed to be cuddly and sooky, but she's beautiful!

We went to the Illawarra one too, those Leonburgers were so spectacular and so was the Boerbull! Saw the biggest wolfhound I have ever seen and all the dogs seemed so well behaved. Jed just took it all in his stride and I think the whippets enjoyed themselves too.

I was at the Illawarra walk and we had a group of GORGEOUS Leonburgers There were about 10 I think. Plus the lady from a dog training school/breeder with her lovely South African Boerbulls. Such beautiful sooky dogs!!Edited to say: Kirah, Zeus and I spent the day with a friend and her most lovely and cuddly Akita!! Apparently they aren't supposed to be cuddly and sooky, but she's beautiful!

Weren't the leonburgers stunning! I missed the boerbull though I resisted the urge to cuddle the wolfies and saw some gorgeous great Danes too.

I heard the 'hot dog' won the costume contest.

We got lots of lovely comments about the greys (and I am sure you did too snippet). I would have loved a dollar for everytime I got asked if Oscar the iggy was a whippet - but always nice to introduce people to a breed they haven't seen before.

I must confess to being a bad owner at the end though... we were relaxing at a picnic table in an off leash area with the dog sitting under the table against my leg enjoying a pat while our companions had a rumble, only to look down when she put her head in my lap and realise it wasn't my dog! A very similar looking BC that Billie had drawn my attention to earlier was chilling with me while she was playing around with someone else.

OMGosh! You totally walked right past us before the walk started it was prolly about 9:30ish-- I was along the wall near the water.

My friend was trying to work out if it was a Chow from the distance and from far away I thought she looked like a little Samoyed. As she got to us though I could tell a Chow but have never seen one that colour. She's beautiful!!

Thanks for the lovely comments! She defiantly a head turner... And such a princess! She loved all the attention and was asleep by the time we left the car park. Would love to see more group walk for us to join.

The boerbulls are owned and bred by the lady who owns/runs Naughty Dog School. I took Kirah there for training when she was about 6 months and was introduced to them there. The puppy was *much* littler then!! I think she said he's only 10 months old too!

I did see a few greys but only from a distance -- I walked past one with its green collar and saw another on the other side of the park with a muzzle. Very stunning though.

I also may have seen your Iggies CBL -- I do remember seeing greyish mottled ones (maybe??) and saying OMG whippets so am not sure.

There was also a gorgeous Wolfhound puppy who fell asleep on this little boy's lap after the walk. I was sitting on the grass near the agility set-up and they were sitting nearby. The pup was cuddled up on the boy upside-down completely buggered! It was so cute!

That would have been one of snippets whippets I think (she has a blue and white one) - my Oscar is a red fawn (and I think was the only iggy there - I had my 2 greys two a blue and white and a black). I saw one of our vet nurses with her two brindle and white whippets there too.

I loved the wolfies! My brother took his very odd looking but very gorgeous wolfie/ shepherd x rescue boy along too.

I'm going to the Canberra walk. Have been every year since it started at Lake Gininderra. The dogs love it and it gives me a chance to catch up with my friends.

The RSPCA walk in Canberra is Lake Burley Griffin, is there one at Lake Ginninderra as well????

Sounds like an excellent turn out and lots of enjoyment at so many walks around Oz! Great really to see so many well socialised and behaved dogs out there. The only concern I had on the day was that some of the puppies looked a little young to be out at a public event (for vacc reasons).

I'm surprised no one else has said it - photographer, stylist and chihuahua owner need a big smack. It's clear that the chi is terrified, they should have chosen a more confident chihuahua. Idiots.
