Ortho surgeons are fantastic, my now 11 month old pup had his ulna shortened due to elbow dyplasia, his coronoid process removed and the joint cleaned up. They didn't pin the ulna as it only bears 20% of the weight and they wanted that bone o find its own best fit. 3 months later my dog is limp free nd got the all clear to go off lead from Monday this week, he has made a remarkable recovery! Follow your surgeons instructions and I'm sure all will be good :)

Thanks everyone. She is home with us now, and is in her crate. She has to go back in a week, and she can then start physio and in 2wks she can start hydro with the underwater treadmill. She is to be confined for 4-6wks and re xray in 8 weeks. They said because she is young it will heal quicker.

Luckilly I am a stay home mum, so I can at least be with her most of the time and try and keep her mind active.

Yay for physio!! Clearly you have an awesome vet as its so often forgotten and makes such a big difference!!!

Best of luck with her recovery

Sorry to hear about your poor pup : (

As soon as she is able, try to make sure you set up some little socialisation exercises- novel items and surfaces would be easy non strenuous ones for her- its a critical time for her and i have seen a number of adult dogs with issues that experienced some confinement prior to 6 months of age which i believe was a major contributing factor to their issues.

Thanks Cosmolo, What sort of things would you mainly suggest for her. I am already looking at things to keep her mind active and she is getting lots of social interaction, exposed to different noises etc.

She is doing really well. She is weight bearing already. We have our 1wk post op appointment tomorrow morning, and our first physio session. She is a little down on her pastern on the good foot, but I am thinking that is because of the over compensating, but will talk to the physio girls tomorrow.

Her wound is looking great, nice and dry. So all in all its going really well. The hardest part is keeping her confined and entertained, and dealing with a very sooky Billy dog because he isn't allowed to play with her.

I will update again when we get back from South Paws tomorrow :)

Hey there,

She went really well. She had her stitches out yesterday too. She is winging a little (throwing her leg out to walk) which we are hoping will come good once she has recovered a little more. Got the ok to start the underwater treadmill too, and can have 5 mins walks on lead.

She is so funny, I take her outside on lead to go to the toilet and she does her toileting and then tries to do the bolt. I think she is secretly hoping that one day that lead won't be attached. When she get to the end of the lead she throws a tantrum and plays dead and I have to go and pick her up. Funny girl.

I have attached her post op xray, and am just trying to resize the other couple :)
