Another Dog Attack

Agreed, I don't think that breed should ever be mentioned, particularly in a case like this where the dogs were trained guard dogs.

I'm relieved to hear that it wasn't a fatal attack at least. Good on the two men for stepping in to help, even though it put themselves in danger. It would have been a very scary situation for everyone.

Trained guard dogs - at least well trained ones with good nerves - shouldn't be out attacking strangers.

Thats for sure !

I really hate hearing of dog attacks :( if only owners kept there dogs contained

in the correct way , really is it that hard silly owners :mad

Thank goodness those gentlemen stepped into help, probably saved his life. And good on them for doing so because it would have been very scary I imagine.

I agree with mixedupup, That they would most likely been the sort of "guard dogs" that are confined to a yard and never socialised.

Just to clarify because my words weren't as clear as I thought, I wasn't condoning the behaviour of the dogs or saying that they were well trained and should behave in this way. What I meant was that I don't like breeds being mentioned (in any of these stories), particularly when in this case the dogs were not raised as loving family pets, so including their breed isn't particularly helpful for people who are unfamiliar with the breed, or dogs in general. Articles like this tend to make many members of Joe Public assume then that all dogs of a certain breed are prone to behave in such a way.

Once again Irresponsible morons abusing this wonderful Breed. :mad :mad

Anyone can train a dog of any Breed to be vicious, but the problem is the Breed gets the blame. :mad :mad :mad

I can't see how the breed is at fault or why the dogs were put down being guard dogs escaping their compound providing they were registered and recognised guard dogs, being dangerous is a guard dog's job, they are not family pets. Guard dogs escaping into a public place and attacking should be a mandatory jail sentence for the owner IMHO.

Guard dog is a loose term, most guard dogs I know around here are just unsocialised large breeds kept in backyards. Proper guard dogs take years of training and can be called off.

Proper guard dogs are trained to attack anyone except the owner, patrol dogs, police/security type dogs who work with a handler are the trained ones that can be called off.

I believe you'll find that you're wrong. All guard dogs are highly trained and can be called off, regardless of the type of training. Man stoppers/guard/protection/personal protection all can be called off
