Hi everyone,

I have a puppy going to a lovely couple who live in Ferntree Gully. They have not had a pet before, so don't have a regular vet. Does anybody know of a good vet in the area? Please feel free to PM me also (recommendations, and if there's anyone they should steer clear of!). Thanks in advance :)

Strongly recommend Boronia Veterinary Clinic. I've delt with them for over 35 years now and have never had any cause for concern. I particularly like the "older" vets there but I guess that is because I have delt with them for so long.

I use bayswater vet on mountain hwy, and I love love love it.

I have had 2 cats with cancer (he did laugh at how a 23 year old had come to get 2 old cats with pre existing cancer) and he talked me through all the options/costs what he thought best but no pressure.

We had a dog fight, he stopped what he was doing right away (other customer said he could) looked at my dog and calmed me down, put dog under, fixed him up, kept him over night and checked on him 3 times during the night. He had drainage pipes in the wound and all Cost $250 and $30 follow up.

Dog with clicky knee, he picked it up 4 years ago at yearly check up, dog didn't carry it or show any issues for 2 more years, he is only now needing it fixed and he has given us option of specialist vet $2700 or local non specialist but dones this proceedure quite often $800.

We have had several fosters in with random issues what he has said straight up has always been right, even taken one to a specialist for 2nd opinion, 4 specialist visits later decides the problem is what my vet said.

The vet isn't the warmest person, he is very nice but not gushy. (he told my husband once that he has at least one person a day come in in a crying hysteria so maybe thats why. Both hubby and I have done it, lol)

Strongly agree as well - Boronia Vet Clinic. Open every day except Christmas day, and have after hours ph number for Clients. Going there 20 yrs, excellent service. There are quite a few Vets, I like Matt Costa, however, they are all good, but everyone has their favs.

I used Boronia Vet for years when I lived in Melbourne.

I stopped using them when I heard they were "in tight" with ACA Breeders (puppy farm) and often had special 'offers' for people buying those puppies.

I never supported the clinic after that.

Surely it's a good thing for a vet to offer discount desexing for instance for dogs that come from pet shops or puppy farms? If they were receiving kick backs- a certain amount of $$ from every puppy sale that would be different.

Its more they were promoting getting a dog from Aca also.

Its a huge vet, so i guess people worry money is coming first when they do that.

There is good and bad though i know they have discounted rates for some rescues too. But my vet does that also so i just didnt go into it. Hence my only vague knowledge about them.

We now go to Avonsleigh Vet, 441 Belgrave-Gembrook Road Avonsleigh, near the corner of Macclesfield Road. Bit of a trek ( 30 mins or so ) from FTG but we think it is worth it, we live in Belgrave.

We have Deerhounds and they understand them, not all vets do.......

Thanks so much for the advice everyone. I know of a few other breeders in the area and they also recommended Boronia. It's only a few minutes' drive from my puppy people's place too :)

Pretty good. I wouldn't say she's the best mum i've had, but could be worse LOL

I haven't put up any new pics in a week or so, but there's heaps of photo's on the website: www.chadeaus.net (under November 2012 litter)
