Thanks guys. It was so stressful. I REALLY hope my insurance company cooperates. I'm thinking because it was an accident it might be a bit easier then say an illness whereby they dig deep for pre existing conditions.

The Specialist today said that if there is any problems with them he is more then happy to call the company, and has done in the past as he hates insurance companies as they are renowned for being jerks and they often have to make calls on behalf of the client.

How is Bonnie? Is she home yet?

She is home and well. A bit down and needs to be carried for toilet trips but she's alive and her legs have been surgically repaired so we'll get there. She has a great appetite and is resting lots.

Hopefully when the bandages come off in a week or 2 they encourage them to walk because as they've been pinned and plated there is no damage they can do and walking on them encourages blood flow. It's a quicker healing them then a cast.

But its been a big few days :(

Hmm PetPlan have been sneaky this year. Insurance costs haven't gone up on renewal - but their excess has, from $100 to $125.

My premiums and excess both went up this year, the premium went from $480 or there abouts to $540 or thereabouts.

The excess is now $125 but the yearly amount is now $10000 not $9000.

Rommi's premium didn't go up and I thought it would after her claim for TPLO surgery.

I know someone who worked for Real Insurance and not only no one who works there uses their own products, they warn their friends and families against using them. Just a warning

I orginally would have said the same thing however they paid $5500 into my account after my puppy need specialist surgery and emergency vet treatment. Money was in my account within 10 days no questions asked. Can't fault their accident cover based on that experience.

We are with Petplan. We started with free puppy cover, fortunately ( or not) her issues started when she was covered with this plan so we carried on the coverage. It is the basic plan with $100 excess.

Her issues involved incontinence and UTI's. We saw 3 vets and were eventually referred to the Animal Referral Hospital to investigate the possibility of an ectopic ureter. Turned out to be a vaginal stenosis plus sphincter problems which is now being treated with propalin.. Long story short there were lots of tests, an operation, follow- up which also involved lots of money. Pet plan paid all but the $100 excess.

Payment did take about 6 weeks but was more than we expected to get - it has certainly been worth it for us. We are also grateful that her issues started before the end of the puppy insurance because I have had lots of dogs but none of those had ever had the health issues this one has had. She is a Golden Retriever who we bought from a reputable breeder and has the loveliest temperament but boy has she put us through the wringer.

I would not be without pet insurance now, if something does go wrong it can be very very expensive - I do recommend Pet plan
