Some friends will be in Australia for a long month and would like to see a dog show or two, so I said I would help find out some info for them.

Can people recommend dates and venues of shows coming up (and where more info would be available about the show)

They are gundog people with Irish Water and Curlies, so I also wondered if maybe there was something going on with the Murray River Retrievers that they might be able to attend to find out more about?

They show, do a bit of obedience and gundog work too, so any suggestions I can pass on for things to do while visiting over there?

I guess it depends where abouts in Australia they will be? The Canberra Royal is in late Feb, that might be good because there is confirmation showing plus agility, plus all the regular show stuff such as rides, showbags etc.

Here is a link to the Canberra show website: http://www.rncas.org.au/showwebsite/site/index.php

And also a link to the confirmation show schedule: http://www.dogzonline.com.au/event-diary/documents/2067_SHD_11112012162955.pdf

Murray River Retrievers arent a recognised breed here, so they would have to internet surf and find people breeding them privately as they cannot be shown

I know they can't be shown, that;s why I was also asking about other dog sports where they maybe competing - or can;t an unrecognised breed do any competitions over there?

They can as an associate (generic name) dog- so people in other dog sports may know of some "associate" ones, but they cannot compete in shows. I met one in the flesh many many moons ago (a friend of a friend in Mildura way had one) and to me they sort of look like an American Water Spaniel- GORGEOUS dogs. I hope your friends manage to dig up a couple to view

They can't compete in ANKC retrieving or field trials but yes to obedience and agility (on the Associate register).
