Should our puppy have arrived with his Registration Papers????

I thought l did everything right when purchasing our puppy, l searched all the breeders on site and read all the profiles.  I was sure that the Breeder was a legitimate, or they would not have been able to advertise pups for sale on site, but we have been receiving excuse after excuse for not receiving paperwork and its now been well over 4 months, our pup is now 7 months old and we can't insure him as a purebred without the papers, is this usual??? Its been many years since l have "purchased" an animal, but both our Burmese and Ragdoll had papers when they were picked up, we didn't need to wait for anything to be sent, now lm worried that my Puppy may in fact not be a "Pure Bred" dog and thats why we do not have the papers.

I'm not in Victoria but my guess is to contact Dogs Victoria and explain your situation.

Do you have a receipt or other record that you have transferred money to the breeder? Are you the registered owner with your local council? Had the microchip details transferred to your name and address?

I've never used pet insurance because it didn't cover regular vet care, and my breed is generally healthy until advanced age, when they wouldn't be covered.

Australian consumer magazine Choice didn't recommend any pet insurance schemes. They might have even won a "Shonky Award" one year. You may do better to put an amount of money aside for emergencies. I've learned they charge higher premiums for certain breeds.

Whichever site you found the breeder on is your first point of call. If Dogzonline or Dogs Vic or whoever have this breeder listed, and they are not legitimate,then you need a please explain from that body. Name the breeder.

Depends what site your referring to & which registered org.
I never have had to prove with papers my breed was purebred to insure .
I insure for the first 15 months to cover any what ifs & then cancel.
You need to phone the registry the pup is with .
Depending on what excuses they are as you havent mentioned any it could very well be legit reasons.
Waiting for DNA results to return from provider is one of the biggest dramas in slowing down rego,even the State bodies can be slow  .

My Rotti pups never came with their papers straight off they always arrived later, Dogs Victoria were always slow (I understand the process is now much faster with online registrations) but while researching some past litters for the Rotti club, it seems some breeders do wait an awful long time to register.

That could be due to reasons such as waiting to get them registered directly to the puppy buyers names or simply coming up with paperwork that went missing. 

I always recommend contacting your state breed club for breeders as they all have their own rules and health tests specific to breed that go beyond the state canine bodies rules.

First step would be to contact your state canine body (Dogs Victoria etc), assuming they are ANKC, and not one of the other mickey mouse registries.

But I never had to prove purebred for insurance. I'm with Bow Wow Meow.

Oh, I'd also contact your state breed club (you didn't mention breed) if the breeder is a member they will assist.

Breed clubs cant assist .
The only people that can assist is the office that the dog is registered with

True insurance far as I've seen insured any puppy have never asked to see registration certificate.

As for being late arriving 

Any number of reasons, computer glitches, late deciding on puppy names, the most frustrating of all . . .

Certificates arrive, put in "safe place" n can't remember where

 

Guarantee after u give up and get replacement ones, the missing magically turn up . . .

The ANKC of the state your pup was bred (ie if in Victoria, Dogs VIC, in NSW Dogs NSW, in Qld, Dogs QLD and so on). will contact the breeder to get a wriggle on and send your registration certificate
