  1. Wish I could have a cat... would love an exotic be it rescue or from a breeder. Good to see these guys are out of danger!
  2. I have given alot of stuff to the salvos... I really prefer useful prizes, like towels blankets ect... Foods good but if it is something I know my dogs havent done well on I get rid of it!
  3. As a general rule pointers are great with kids but I always make a point of saying that it also depends on the child and the childs dog skills. My guys who have not been raised with kids have no issue with kids and a very tolerable of them, especially my older girl she LOVES kids.
  4. Yes the pointer was very different in its head... Front was alot shallower too. Some breeds havent changed much some have. The griffons both smooth and rough seem pretty much the same, I wasnt into the older style boxer!
  5. Always makes me laugh when people say non shedding and so many breeds that do shed quite abit get suggested  Id def look at lagottos, lowchens, griffons (although they ARE smaller) , mini poodle?
  6. Martin is who I am about to switch over to... I asked after my last litter and a very crap vet experience who is the best and most people said him. There were also some recommendations for a vet in adamstown? I think it was them anyway!
  7. There are a couple of Rescue Pointers looking for homes atm! For more info see here .... http://www.facebook....155164284602350 Pointers make perfect family dogs and are very tolerant of kiddies!
  8. Found this on FB, I think it will be hard to know who the actual first was. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=426214777423038&set=a.271124439598740.68693.210602142317637&type=1&theater
  9. Hi, Pointers do this all the time........I had one which had the last joint removed, this still looked like a tipped tail......but didn't hinder her in the ring at all, she was a multi class in Group, Royal CC and Speciality winner. One other dog I had that would continually whack the end of his tail and would then open it up and spray blood everywhere........I taped a hard plastic hair roller onto the end of his tail......this meant it wasn't enclosed in a moist bandage which made the skin soft.......he did try to chew the roller off, so I smeared chilli paste on it.......I had to to this for about 4 weeks but the tail healed well and I also stop the over the top greetings I would get when he came inside by teaching him to sit Yes was going to say the same thing my pointer girl has a bald bit on her tail atm but it hasnt bled before. Oh your poor boy . Being a breed that isn't normally docked I would think it may affect results. But I can only share my experience with one of our girls who had a full tail. She had a split, open & bleeding tip of tail (about 10cm was affected) - after alot of battles with vets they removed the affected part of the tail as in their view it would heal up and she would be a happy dog again. Not the case - the shortened tail was worse than the full tail and we had a poor dog consistently in pain with an open bleeding tail and vets who just took forever to "do the right thing for the wellbeing of the dog" - eventually she was docked to normal length and she has never looked back. No trouble with it ever again and a happy happy dog :). My point for you is that taking the tip off probably won't change him injuring his tail tip. I can only say - do the right thing for your dog (& I hope you can continue to show him). I have seen somewhere a dobe person o/s made a brace for their dogs tail as it continuously damaged it as well - it went around the belly and then holds the tail down to level with the rear leg line. I have a friend who had pointers years ago and she told me when my girl was going through this that they used to tape thumb thimbles to the tip of their dogs tails - tried that and no go with our girl but it would depend on the dog. Best of luck with it. Yes my show trainer did the brace thing with one of her dalls, the thing is im not home during the day, and because he is so accident prone I know that will cause some trouble.... man if only i could lock him up in cotton wool!!, or take him to work.... I long for a job where my dog can come with me... at the end of the day I need to teach him "Calm" I think that will reduce the issue by far... when he sees me of a morning and evening his a loose cannon... maybe a game of ball or tug before he comes in the house... I dont know but I feel for him! Although Gus is a very nice looking Dal, I just dont think he was meant for showing... his too much of a free spirit and if I could compare him to a child his a mixture of the one climbing on rocks, grazing his knees and the asthma kid who is allergic to everything.. maybe this is just a puppy thing and he will grow out of it.... but i also dont want to disappoint his breeder and all those who see his potential!! gaa such a mind boggling decision. This last bit, I have one like this and it all comes down to training he is my best show dog yet (hes a griffon, not pointer) he has AMAZING additude , its all about geting the additude and making it work for you not against you!!!. From what I have read of your posts hes only had 2 or 3 shows Keep at it, get help from people at shows, learn as much as you can. The difference in how handled and trained my first dog compared to what i do now when i get a new show dog is HUGELY difference
  10. You think its right for people to plaster photos of random peoples cars all over FB when they dont know if the car is linked or not? People have a right to privacy and theres also the innocent until proven guilty thing. All I have seen on FB is a bunch of heresay, eg. this car was in the area when this dog was stolen... whats to say that dog didnt just go missing? Whats to say the person in that car wasnt just driving to work? There have been alot of dogs being "taken" then returned... those stories sound like rubbish to me cause FRANKLY if they take a dog they have taken the dog you are not likely to get it back, look at the bulldog tank there was a $6000 reward, who ever had him got cold feet and did something or he died from some sort of stress? he was never coming back alive! These guys are ba*tards and cruel they arnt going to be going back to the scene of the crime to return a dog!! So many dogs that have just gone wandering have been reported as stolen, it makes it hard to see how bad the situation REALLY is! Im not saying it should all be ignored but I do think some are doing things the wrong way! I am NOT taking any chances either, I have SIX dogs, who are now locked up when ever anyone isnt home (this is a hard task!), it is COMPLETELY unfair on them, they are an active-ish breed and like the yard time! Now that this has happened this is how it will ALWAYS be for my dogs, they will always be under lock and key when i am not home! They are far to valuable in many repects to chance leaving them out! Sadly I fear the RSPCA cant and wont do much! The USA is far more advanced that us as far as animal crulty is concerned!
  11. This is so sad Rip, a truely wonderful vet by the sounds of it!
  12. Im abit dispointed in people. There are a number of FB groups popping up and ALOT have been posting pics of suspect utes, number plates and all. i saw one of these utes the other day in the area and of course I was suspect BUT we cant start calling every person a dog theif cause tey have a ute with dogs on the back? they sad thedogs looked distressed well alot of dogs dont like being on those tray utes in a cage even if they are on their reguarly! also alot of dogs are being reported as STOLEN when they hve mearly gotten out of their yards, people are getting hysteric and its really annoying me!
  13. Kinda sounds like they are in the same basket as those who see marley and me and want a lab or snow dogs and want a husky. I dont mean to sound rude but make sure you are making the right choice for YOU. Ok if they really dont want you to have a rottie then fair enough but try and find a middle ground, if an Akita is that then awesome but Im just going to throw it out there and say in my personal experience and opinion a rottie sounds more appopriate than an akita from what you have said thus far about your wants and needs in a dog. I really think the WHOLE family should get to a dog show and meet all the breeds (if you can) that you are looking at. You and they might be suprised wih what you end up falling for. If it wasnt for dog shows I wouldnt have either of my fave breeds.
  14. Make sure its not just german short haired pointers on your list but also Pointers (commonly known as english pointers), people often get the two mixed up and whilst they are similar there are a few differences! if they fit the bill look wise I think one would definately suit what you are after. Not exactly a self plug as I dont have any litters coming up but if you want to see some good looking pointers check out my web page below in my signature ;-) ETA I LOVE rotties, fingers crossed you can get one! I will have one one day :-)
  15. Well Id like to hope so but Im not so sure.
  16. Im not even sure if its calculated or wether they are picking random suburbs and looking for quiet streets. some dogs were taken in the Kurri area last week, gates left open. From everything ive heard it seems like they are opening gates grabbing anything if its there and getting out quick smart. Was thinking the other day that MAYBE there could be someone on the inside? knowing which houses to target? someone who can figure out if people are there and when... maybe a meter reader or a delivery guy? I think the police should be making a bigger deal out of it! Dog fighting should be a serious crime!!!! Its making me angry that my dogs have to be locked up whe we arnt here and i am going out of my way to protect them! They sould be able to be dogs and enjoy their own yards!
  17. I know they are small but a Griffon Bruxellois would be IDEAL! They dont need a yard, they are super easy to train my boy has been going offlead since 16 weeks with no privious traiing he likes to chase and fetch even if i do have to get him smaller sized balls... he is a smooth coat and thre are a few advertised on dogs online one breeder even has black smooth girl :-) My boy also lives with four big dogs he is definately a big dog in a small body!
  18. This is also what i would have suggested... I am abit in love with Rotts atm thou! Im yet to find one that isnt a lovey dovey ball of fun!
  19. I got told recently buy the Pet barn guy that I "have a weird combination of dogs" thanks buddy! He also commented on the fact that I have "rare and weird" dogs... and "wow you have a few" all in the one conversation... this guy new how to offend thats for sure!!! I have 4 x pointers who get along very well with my pug and smooth coated griffon...
  20. I had a noise complaint from a pain in the arse neighbour ... The neighbours were asked to keep a noise diary and all the other neighbours said "their dogs bark no more and no less than our own" the ranger told us the complaint was dealt with and we had no worries but the neighbour up the back turned into a jerk after that so we moved!
  21. Thankfully my P breed has alot less hair than your P breed poodle mum, not sure i could handle that much hair
  22. I have a P breed and i just suck it up and get there early regardless i like to be organised :)
