Finger crossed for your pup K9 Sadly and to be honest councils have no obligations to worm or vaccinate anything that goes in, if so all would be doing it. Some, many pounds have not enough funds supplied to them to do this. And to be honest why should they when it is the peoples responsibility who owned/bred the animals, why rate and taxpayers when many would do the right thing have to pay even more for the people that don't. I don't know that answer but I know that compulsory vaccinations in pounds is a long way off yet! -
Also from experience take care feeding mined frames alone they need to be bulked out as the slivers of bone have cut the insides of a young foster here and we lost the little dog. She was all ready to go to a new home and we knew she was healthy and vaccinated etc but upon a post mortem we found that she had all these cuts and the only thing that the vet could put it down to was the mince. People I know mix it with roo meat rice dry and accasionally tin food. I aviod it and feed necks to smaller ones and frames to the bigger ones.

Transporting Dogs On Interstate Trucks
pikespooches replied to pikespooches's topic in General Dog Discussion
ok great thanks guys. Now how to stop this happening, I have since found out people are transporting pound dogs this way also. Some may be done properly but others not. I tend to fly mine but have had a few go on trucks with drivers that put them in the cabin secured but refused crates.. I do not like the idea of a dog box or tool box presonally and thus do not take this option, but I am concerned for the animals going this way. How can it be stopped? Should there be a sticky somwhere on guidelines on animal transportation? -
Transporting Dogs On Interstate Trucks
pikespooches replied to pikespooches's topic in General Dog Discussion
It is more for me personally to get an idea if what I am feeling uneasy about I should be. I don;t like the idea of a toolbox as it is for tools not stock or dogs in my view. I prefer to use a crate for younger dogs and older ones should be able to be secured into the bunk or spare seat with an appropriate harness etc. I will not be physically putting a dog into anything that is unsafe. But I do appreaciate that these people do want to offer help! And no not poundies we will not allow a driver of ours to place an unquarantined dog into a truck. Boxes are teh really heavy type at times reinforced and lined with paper and bedding. The drivers do take them out to toilet alng the journey. It is the tool box that bothers me! -
Lately we have been able to transport dogs on interstate trucks which is a huge help. Some will carry them in the cabin, some insist they are in a box but do not want to use a crate as they need to return it so prefer to use a carboard box with ventilation holes. Some have "dog Boxes" which whilst are not airconditioned are designed to carry dogs. Some put the dogs into the tool boxes on the side of the truck. Are all these safe, legal, ethical? If an insepctor from RSPCA or the police were to find this would there be any breaches? edited for spelling

Kids growing up in rescue learn so much. Mine had watched the vet desex and do other operations, helped hands on at home wiht sad unsure sick and new mummies including hand raising. My son is a breauty he give all manners of animals even a dead ant a grave! He also tried to rescue a scorpion but was not successful. We have a couple of geckos on our back verandah though! My kids all know how to be good anto and care for an animal, lets hope it carries forth into their adult lives.

That skuling type of behaviour maybe teh working dog 'eye' that she is showing. I also think she is Kelpie x ACd and I have fostered and rehomed many "red' Kelpies to be asked if they are dingo and people wanting them believing they are. They do have a similar look but put them together there is remarkable differences.
-
Is that Kyra??? If so I wouldn't be the blame as the kids and I really didn't spoil her LOL
-
I agree and give me a working line any day, but I love the lot!
-
But are there now two styles of Kelpie? The ANKC one which has less drive and is a different style and coloured dog and the working kelpie which has original variances of teh breed and original colour and a higher drive! We see and rescue loads of KElpies out in teh country and tehy are true working dogs but not like the standard

Rescue Dane With Swollen Callouses

What about Ungvita? Viatmin E and smells very fishy but works well on lots of things! -
I have lost puppies from eating chicken wings particularly the wing tips from the bones not being chewed and they then have perforated teh bowel also teh chicken mince from Lennards as there is a lot of bone. I would leave them until 16 weeks and stick to necks until then as they seem to cope with them better. Nothing nastier than a puppy with a perforated bowel die in pain.

Thinking of you Kaz, I know how you loved this guy and he you. He had a wonderful life with you and you will have cherished memories for life.

YEP Elvis came into care with a Cherry eye as a wee puppy. We saw three vets and did have him on eye ointment until he was surgically corredted. You will get varying quotes as all vets charge different prices but it is the quality of the surgery that counts. Elvis has his removed not tucked back in as the tuck can fail, but he has no dry eye or ill effects and you really have to look to see the remnants.

Weird Vomiting And Squirts
pikespooches replied to pikespooches's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes he is going back to chicken and rice, Whilst he eats well he is not a fast eater at all!!! ALso he has a habit of playing with teh hose so I was thinking a water overload wouldn't help hehe!!! -
I have a rescue dog return to me 9 months after I rehomed him. He is happy lovely and heatly. But before I got him back his owner said he had had the squirts and after going to the vet they couldn't find a cause. (Hmm not sure this would be correct but I was told this) Anyway, by the time he got to me he was constipated. At no time was he off his tucker, looked or acted ill and in a few days he was back to normal with his bowels. I had noticed occasionally that he would have a drink of water and then upon running would throw some out. I thought excess!! BUT he hasin the last two days developed the spuirts again and now is vomiting, not heaving just up it comes suddenly. He is eating and drinking, actually drinking what I would think too much, but otherwise happy and healthy looking. The only thing I know he has eaten that he shouldn't is what is in the cat tray LOL!! and maybe the litter a wood based product may be causing it! I will be more careful with the litter tray areas but he is quick!

Sadly I saw this dog today and she is a mess. The owners are distraught and they are going back to the vet to have her PTS. It has cost a lot of money and the children are in distress and so is the dog. Sadly they cannot contact the breeder as she was purchased from a pet shop. They didn't know the pitfalls but they do now. We do know where the dog came from and she is a breeder in Hay. At first they were hesitant to contemplate getting another but I recommended they did but only directly from a reputable breeder. This advice they are going to take thankfully.

I assume the vet has done bloods. They have spent a lot of money on tests and feel that the vet is jsut not doing his job well and jsut wanting more money again and again. If it is this condition is that a death sentence?
-
They didn't bring the little dog back but I think they wanted to hand her over. I am not allowed to accept any more fosters. But I will give then the advice so far. I suspect that it could have been a diet. vaccine or medication based thing. Also wondered if a bite could cause it. Yes teh light confirmed ringworm and besides being miserable and stiff in her movements and losing her hair and weight loss that is it I think they were trying to say something like cutaneous lymphoma but couldn't remember it. I have never heard of this so may I ask more about it??
-
Someone has asked me to try and seek some help with their much loved little dog. She is an almost 3 year old Cavalier who has suddently developed a sore foot and was licking at it. The vet gave them some treatment and then she became stiff in her movements. She started to lose more hair and they confirmed ringworm and a swap confrimed some staff but the vet cannot explain the stiffness and major hair loss not jsut on the ringworm areas. Aslo she is still eating but has lost a lot of weight. After a huge vet bill teh vet can give them no answer and have suggested a biopsy of over $400 on a lymph node for cancer but after almost $1000 vet bill are broke! I did suggest a second vet opinion but to get this they would still have to pay and to travel to another town. I am waiting for them to bring the little dog here for pics but I was wondering if it could be a spider or lizard bite. Or from a cat?
