  1. Hi Mooper:) Sorry to hear about Jack I went through all that with my last dog Jenna (if you can remember?) Jenna was quite old tho, and it was inoperable in her case (it was found on her rump);) I have heard of so many positive stories tho such as Ollie's.....whose still hanging in there Joey and Renae's breeder is going through something similar with one of her dogs atm (Renae's mother) She has been having lots of succesful treatments through a holistic vet here in Adelaide . The last i heard, the cancer hasn't gone away, but had shrunken heaps, and the dog was doing very well ! All the best with Jack
  2. Sorry i have no advice for you:( I have the human form of that tho, and it is extremely painful and crippling.. I hope for Spud's sake when he gets xrayed, it's not that ... They might suggest he spends some time in those hydro dog swimming pools for therapy? Poor Spud:( Hopefully others on here might have some positive ways they know how he can be treated?
  3. I use the low fat super coat for both mine, in between giving the royal canin dental... and the supercoat for sensitive dogs (when i can get it !)... have never had problems with any of these products
  4. I have been trialing the Royal Canin 'dental' dry food on both my Cavs. Ive been happy with it personally. Both dogs don't seem to mind it, but then they are Cavaliers ! LOL But i find it a bit on the costly side... mine have been putting on weight with the dental one, despite they only get the smallest handful each day. The vet suggested mixing it up with the low fat one. I haven't yet.. I've run out atm, and just bought with my last shopping, a Supercoat, low fat dry food for them for now. Decisions decisions ???
  5. I had one myself too once, mine was quite painful The docs wanted to remove it, but i was told to chew lots of chewing gum first. It eventually burst. Don't know what to advice in a dog's case tho ?
  6. Hi 2cavs i don't think i have met you yet ? I haven't been in the CKCS breed thread for a while, must get back in there again! I think i got mine from Joey and Renae's breeder, she's always giving me things ! I've seen them at our SA cavalier fun days too for sale.. Someone on DOL used to make them , if i remember rightly? perhaps do a post in the general section about where to get them? Perhaps also ask in the CKCS breed thread as well .... Are you Facebook, as i have a Cavalier group on there. It's not a forum like Dol tho. Jules ps here is Joey with his on hehe
  7. Thank you Toohey and Poodle wrangler for your advice and responses ! I don't have clippers, but do have a slicker brush. I spent ages getting out tangles from under Joey's belly area yesterday (he soo hates it ! ) and i'll do some extra trimming on them on the weekend , well hubby will do most of it (he enjoys doing it) ! hehe In the meantime i am just putting their snoods on them for when they go outside
  8. Thank you for that good advice Toothey ! I do clip around the ears a little bit, but might have do it more often, and more of it.. and around the opening too ! thank you for the pic to show me what you mean, it helps ! I know what you mean about them getting it other parts of their bodies.. I had a heeler x years ago, that got one in his paw. I didn't realize till weeks later when all this smelly grass stuff started growing out of his foot ! . It was badly infected and had to be treated at the vets.
  9. Hi everyone :p Last year Joey and Renae ended up costing up a fair bit at the vets for removal of grass seeds out of their ears ! (after hours too!) We live in semi rural area, on a just over a quarter acre block.. We do try to maintain it as best as we can, but there's still a problem with the grass seeds at certain times of the year.. now being one of them ! I did resort to putting on their snoods after all their expensive vet trips, whenever i let them outside after that.. which we have found to be really effective.. but there's many times they need to go outside late at night or in middle of the night to do their wees, and being half asleep i forget to put them on .. Are there any other things you do to prevent your dogs getting them ,especially in their ears. It's hard having a dog with floppy ears at these times .. These have been my worse type of dogs for having this problem Thank you for any help you are able to give me ! :p Jules
  10. Hi : I have the same problem with my female cavalier, Renae... with her tummy also at certain times of the year..from our backyard grass. I am reading this thread for ideas as well.. I usually use calamine lotion, avoleen(sp?) shampoo, dry food for dogs with allergies (which they not on atm), and Neocort cream from the vets when it gets severe.. I am going to try rubbing some aloe vera juice on it as well, as it is good for itching ! My dad has just give me some plants Also someone put a link up in the general section (in a response) about some stuff they use for their dogs. I'll see if i can find you the thread after :p here it is .. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=115460 I remember years ago had a dog with severe allergies, and i had to have him tested for so many things. He ended having to have courses of desensitizing injections... was very expensive !!!!
  11. Thanks everyone Hi KitKat, i used a Tupperware measuring jug to measure it out .. it has cup measurements on it. Well they were playing around the house worse than ever last night ! Grrrrr They seem to be overstimulated ! They are finally alseep now ! at 9.45am! I've even started walking them every afternoon to tire them out .. to stop them being active during the nights. I'm going to try giving them a cup each at night, and a tiny handful for breaky... I'll have to play it by ear.
  12. Thanks Georgie -boy they seem more than contented tonight with that size serve Will be interesting to see if they wake me up at 4am tomorrow morning to beg me for breaky I will be giving less than that amount, or i will go through it way too quickly ! (and it's not cheap, especially if feeding 2 dogs with it) Give your two a cuddle from me Jules x
  13. yeah that's what i thought too ... maybe i have read the directions all wrong I'll go and check tomorrow and find out for sure...
  14. yes, and thats what i am hoping to trial atm, to see the full benefit of it I just wanted to know if that sounds right then (without anything extra)? 2 cups each, every day. I will check at the vets tomorrow then
  15. HI everyone A while back i had Joey's teeth cleaned(they were heavily plagued) As he doesn't chew bones, the vet suggested i get him onto the dry food as mentioned in my title. I of course didn't buy the biscuits at the time (because of the cost), but since then his mouth is smelly again So i went and bought a small pkt yesterday, to see if it actually helps I have tried to read the measures for what i have to give them each (i'm going give Renae them too), but it seems a lot. I know it's a complete meal, and concentrated, but it seems more than what i normally give them (which is a handful of normal dry food and small amount of mince loaf/casserole ) They get a chicken neck each once or twice a week as well. So it says based on small dogs under 10 kg (which both mine are 'just', and if needing to shed weight (as mine have been) to give them 180 grams (2 cups each) once a day (which i will probably divide up for some breaky as well) Does this sound right??? It looks like a lot in their bowls, compared to what i normally give. I am just trailing it for now, as if it works out that i go through it too fast and it costs heaps, i may have to think of another option .. I can ring the vet to ask them, but thought i would see if anyone else gives their similar size dogs it, to see if i what i am doing is correct? Thanks !
  16. RIP sweet Sassy for you my_sibe_owns_me I understand your sorrow :D
  17. Some excellent stuff going on in here !! Here's a fantastic signature Snap made me today ! Oh if anyone is really bored and wants to do something else creative, i have a funny pic of Joey in the cavalier thread (page39) that someone can play with if they want ;-)
  18. If these are mature dogs why are they not holding overnight? I take my troop out for last toilet and everyone holds overnight. I would suggest crating them might be in order. Hi cownabree yes mine are both mature aged and should know better , i agree.. they both don't do it in Summer (which you think they would as they drink more). We can also go out for quite a few hours, and have never come back to them having made a mess. My 2 do let us know they need to go out, but we go back to sleep sometimes(so its kinda of our fault) I do think it sounds like a lazy habit, or that they don't like to go outside into the wet and cold ...... If we wake up we will go outside with them, and stand around until they are finished. Yes a crate might be the way to go for us, not that it's a regular problem, just an occasional 'accident' here and there. I looked into those door everyone, but i rather hold off till we get another place( as we are trying to find one to buy) Then it will be a worthwhile investment!! at the moment with the French doors, its too hard to do much ps ... Hi again cownabree, being a breeder, do you know if it's possible that once a breeding bitch has been desexed, if it can cause them to wee more frequently, and not be able to hold on as easily ? (I read somewhere that this can occur sometimes in 'some' dogs)
  19. Oh no LOL I don't blame them, i'd hate to go out in the cold and rain too! cavmad, i finally got to that site at last , will give them a ring later on i think it might be an issue with the cat being able to use it tho :D
  20. I am so sorry to hear about Tommy, Shek ... RIP sweet Tommy.. Sounds like he was a beautiful family cat :D 16 years wow, seems like he had a happy full life !
  21. Thanks cavmad for those pics !! looks ideal !! but not sure if it would work for french doors? No don't want cat to use it ! LOL. she's not allowed outside anymore, unless i take her out on a leash..
  22. Still cant get into that site :D is it just for sliding doors? as our back door is those French type doors with the glass panels... cavmad, sorry to hear about all your problems with your neighbor's noisy dogs
  23. ps... still can't get to that site Grrrr Does that mean with that type of door, will the cat be able to use it too? (which could be a problem)
