That sucks Hope to see you at the next one!

Tis alright Ness I've got about 50 of my own laughable vids on utube including the ones from tonight
-
now I get ya Ness! Thanks
-
Thanks Ness, got that sorted, just annoying that I have to remember to edit the vid once it's uploaded to make it public - I remembered for the first vid and forgot for the second one I always find watching my vids a bit cringe worthy, but at least it is a great way to learn and realise what you need to improve on
-
Yeah she does enjoy herself, which is what I'm after Thanks for letting me know guys, all fixed now, it's stupid iMovie, it automatically makes my vids private and I have no idea why as it didn't do it on my old mac but it does on the new one and I have no idea how to change it ETA: Ignore the shitty start of the second vid, no idea what Daisy was doing For all those with noisy/barky dogs, watch Daisy at 1.40
-
LOL, that was the EXACT video I was thinking of when I started reading this thread!
-
Ok so two videos from tonight; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAY7tYbTbWo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l6-6DNqKuA Excuse my sister swearing and Micha blocking the view for most of both vids Daisy did a very nice front in the second vid after her recall but of course you can't see it
-
It doesn't start till 3 and going by the usual DOL meets, we will be there for a couple of hours at least
-
I don't know about wonder beagle but evil beagle she can sure do well There is a DOL meet this Sunday
-
I wouldn't mind my dogs making liars out of me in that kind of way at all - it's when it's the other way around that I could take them to the pound and leave them there
-
Going by your posts, Buddy n Burt, it appears you don't actually understand what a puppy farmer is. A puppy farmer breeds dogs as a commercial business - we are talking pumping out often hundreds of puppies a year. Surely you don't think that all purebred breeders are puppy farmers simply because they take breeding their dogs very seriously - someone who breeds a couple of litters a year cannot be classified as a puppy farmer.
-
She is, and is doing a visual arts degree too - the lazy bugger was sitting on the ground and refused to stand up when Micha walked in front of the camera and blocked the view, then zoomed in on my face because she thought it was funny
-
I have at least a couple of vids from tonight, although my sister was videoing for me and did a terrible job so I'll have to upload them after dinner and see how they look.
-
We have the same goal Resort to red wine - I did I like your thinking :D
-
It might just be what I am used to, but I find my Siberian and the ones I have met quite trainable. Higher drive makes a dog more trainable, not less, IMO.
-
How about educating them on choosing a breed that does suit their lifestyle instead? So Sibes aren't suited to the majority of people who own them? Right and you have to be fooling yourself if you think that hasn't impacted on and shaped the dog we have today. You can't like the breed that much if you want to completely change them so that they are easier for you to own. I know many Sibe owners who love the breed the way it is, and wouldn't want to see them changed, why should we change the dogs who are in homes that suit them and enjoy them the way they are? As another poster has mentioned - howling and shedding are big reasons why some Sibes are turned into rescue. Should we get rid of their double coat and ability to howl while we're at it too? That would make them easier to live with, wouldn't it?
-
Are you seriously saying that we should breed any working drive out of our dogs in case you break your leg? Right, of course, stuff having dogs that fit the breed standard or can do what they were bred to do as long as it makes it easier for Joe Blow to live with
-
Funny, you say like that it's a fact rather than your opinion. You can back it up with...?
-
How do you work out which gene in the Siberian Husky produces dogs that are excellent escape artists, and how do you selectively breed away from this without buggering up the breed entirely? Do you honestly think that the majority of Sibes in pounds and rescues come from reputable breeders? I don't - surely you realise that changing the breed in the way you propose will take decades, if it is even possible, what do we do about the dogs that are dumped in the mean time? Do you seriously think the problem is the dogs, and not the people who are buying and breeding them? But what about all the Siberians in homes world wide whose owners love the breed the way it is, those of which the breed suits well? I wouldn't change anything about my Siberian. If the breed was too active for me, then I would learn from the experience and next time would buy a breed that does suit my lifestyle. Isn't it far simpler to encourage people to buy breeds that suit them rather than try to change the inherent nature of the breed itself? What's a Siberian Husky if he's not an active dog that needs a reasonable amount of physical and mental stimulation - they are not a coach potato breed, why you would want to breed one who is, is beyond me, for the same reason I cannot fathom why anyone would breed a beagle who didn't want to scent.
-
Let's make them uglier so that people wouldn't be so inclined to buy them because they are so beautiful /sarcasm
-
There are lines of beags out there that have more scent drive than others, just as you get with many breeds. If the average owner can't cope with a scent hound they shouldn't buy one. Surely that is an easier message to work on getting across than trying to change a breed which has been around for hundreds of years? Breeding out scent drive in a scent hound is buggering up the breed - I'm not interested in owning a generic dog thanks. The answer is making breeders accountable for the dogs they breed, we shouldn't ruin a breed purely because we want to make it easier for a larger group of people to own them. What a message to send out to potential dog owners - stuff responsible ownership, we'll just breed one you can leave in the backyard and forget about I am seriously blown away that anyone would think drastically changing our breeds is a good alternative to encouraging people to do their research and be responsible dog owners :D ETA: I must be the only Sibe owner who finds my dog a pleasure and quite easy to live with

It's also what makes them the breed of choice for AQIS. What makes the Beagle an attractive breed for many people is the affability deliberately bred into a dog kept and hunted in a pack. It's the fact that he IS a scent hound that give him his character. If you don't want a scenthound then don't buy one. You don't need to stuff up a breed just so any idiot can own one. Beagles are trainable. The simple fact of the matter is the many owners with "problem" beagles don't bother to. The issues with many dogs are owner created. Start by changing the owner's behaviour, not buggering up the breed. Totally agree PF. The beagles in the pounds wouldn't be there had they been bred by responsible breeders, who ensured that they screened their puppy buyers properly and took back any dog they bred should it need rehoming. They have been a pretty popular breed for a long time, especially in the US, and thrive in pet homes all over the world, so obviously their desire to scent still allows them to make excellent and popular pets for many people.

So, choose your breed carefully, yep, all breeds have different characteristics. Good breeders know this, and do this, again though choose your breed to suit your lifestyle and ability. Breeding true to the breed standard not to extremes is what good breeders already do. I agree, and I think it's so important to note that a dog that has come from a good breeder, who has good health and temperament, can still be a bad dog in the wrong hands. I have a breed that is known for being more difficult to live with, I don't find him to be that way at all, however in the wrong home he would be a nightmare. Environmental factors (i.e. how the dog is raised and trained) is more often the cause of aggression than the dog's genetics. Desirable traits in one breed will not always be desirable traits in another, breeders should breed dogs with temperaments that are in-accordance with their breed not dogs who are going to suit everyone Joe Blow and his family's "modern lifestyle". This line of thought reminds me of Kate Schoefel's desire to breed a beagle (by crossbreeding it with a cav) that doesn't have the desire to scent - is it worth ruining a breed and breeding away from the very purpose they were bred for to make it (supposedly) easier for people to live with? I hope there was as big an emphasis on how important training and socialisation is when it comes to shaping our dogs and what kind of dogs they grow into, as there was on how we breed them?

You can train the other type of left about turn, which you can see Ptolomy do with her dogs in her vids - where you sort of move on the spot and the dog moves it's backend as you do the LAT. Daisy has pretty crappy back end awareness (we're working on it) so I do the around the back LAT like Shell does - you can use either in comp obedience. Shell I watched Zero's vid last night and he is looking great! I love way he looks at you and his prancing is awesome!

Will keep my eye site open
