Dog number four hey Shelley - another beag or GSP or something else??

No I don't think that at all - sorry Cos I think you've misunderstood me... I don't mean the trainer should be able to train the dog both with or without a tool. I meant that whether or not you are using a tool, the method you use is important. I totally agree that a tool is often necessary for the owner's sake. I would be concerned if a trainer couldn't get a dog walking on a loose leash with a tool, teaching loose leash walking should not be hard for a good trainer. You see a lot of owners focusing on what tool will stop their dog from pulling, and they go through heaps of them to no avail... because they don't have the method and theory to use with the tool. The tool should not be the sole focus, a dog can learn to pull on any equipment.

I'm not saying there is any issue with using a tool, but a good trainer should be able to show a client how to get their dog to walk on a loose leash (with or without a tool). When I said it's about the method, I meant that it's not just about what tool you use, but how it is used that's important. ETA: I've seen dogs learn to pull on prong collars because the handler is not using a good method with the tool. I'm sure the same can be said for any tool that's used to get a dog to walk on a loose leash.

Agreed - getting a dog to walk on a loose leash should be easy for a good trainer. It's not really about the tool but the method.

I am no expert but I guess it depends on how you define prey drive. I think of it as the dog's desire to chase and grab things, so a good way to get an idea of whether or not your dog is prey driven is to see if it likes to chase toys, tug with you, run after "prey items" that are moving, gets excited when he hears a squeaky toy etc.

Ok well can I buy one Queensland handlers workshop please Might need more than one to fix my lack of coordination though +1 I use FF and the old site never worked well on it New site is fantastic!

You get extra points for being an awesome steward though. With my (lack of) coordination I'm surprised I didn't stack it just standing there as a figure eight post
-
Ness - that's cos I don't post the ones where I do fall down My handling skills are bad enough without you all getting to see me stack it

Pffft you guys have nothing on me when it comes to bad handling

So *ahem*, two and a half hours to go... assuming everything is going on time

Nope - I haven't run into her lately. I saw her when I was in my car the other night with her big metal pole in hand but so far our paths haven't crossed! Fingers crossed it stays that way.
-
Six weeks is far too young for starters, and it is against the law in some states to sell pups before eight weeks. Rivergum are puppy farmers... I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. There is nothing rare about "spoodles", they are a cross breed, you will struggle to find anyone even remotely reputable breeding them. Does she know much about Poodles or Cocker Spaniels? ETA: There are plenty of designer mutts in rescue.

Hopefully it's 12am NSW time, so 11pm Brissy time - I have to be at work early tomorrow
