Why Would A Full Grown Dog Attack A Puppy?
huski replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
No dog 'should' attack other dogs OR pups but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. My dog that would attack pups would be great with them once he knew them, because he was fear aggressive so the aggression was triggered by unknown dogs and puppies. There are no rules when it comes to DA, it's not the same for every dog. -
I agree, I also find that a dog that is in drive and focused will naturally make eye contact with the handler anyway. I like my dog to be switched on in the ring rather than looking like she is just going through the motions. Besides, When it comes to my dog she HAS to be really on and focused otherwise we won't make it two steps off the startline before her nose hits the ground

Why Would A Full Grown Dog Attack A Puppy?
huski replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
My big dog was attacked numerous times as a puppy and this lead to fear aggression, he doesn't only attack puppies but he would do exactly what you outlined in your OP. Its not uncommon for DA dogs to do to other dogs what was done to them. My dog never injured another dog but obviously that doesn't make it ok. -
Daisy works for her food. If I just give it to her it is inhaled! The other two are the same.

Struggling With Teach Come.
huski replied to StaffordLUV's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think generally when people refer to a dog being 'stubborn' they mean strong willed and persistent, I definitely have a couple of those here  -
Citronella collars have a much lower level of success than electric collars. The aversive (the smell of citronella) also Stays on the dogs coat long after it has stopped barking which IMO is not fair and not as effective. Personally I wouldn't bother with one and I also would prefer not to use citronella at all.

Jumping, Lead Pulling And Excitement Issues
huski replied to tanstaff's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
It might help to think of it this way - dogs jump up because they find the behavior rewarding. They find it gets them attention (for some dogs even negative attention can be rewarding) and that reward process is how the habit is established. If you want to break the habit he needs to learn what behaviour will earn him a reward. Teaching him he will only get attention when he sits for example will help him learn a new more desirable way to greet people and get attention. When a habit like jumping up is that ingrained in a dog, they need to learn that it won't work and they can't get success with it but they also need to learn what behaviour will work to get what they want. -
Australian Obedience Team At Crufts 2012?
huski replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
UK heelwork requires your hand on your left hand side. It is very different requirements than here in Oz. Thanks Lisa! I read somewhere else that was the case in the UK. It is very interesting watching UK obedience clips on FB as their style of obedience can be quite different to here! -
LOL god forbid a trainer uses anything other than PR

Australian Obedience Team At Crufts 2012?
huski replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Nice work Lisa and Prix! I find it more natural to have my hands down by my side Mia Skogster (sp) style. I used to have both my hands together at my waist as that was also a natural position for me but I got pinged heavily for it in a mock trial. The judge later said I shouldn't have been pinged as you should be able to hold your hands in a natural position. There are so many differing opinions on it! -
Neither of my two older dogs have had the problems Daisy had, not even my Siberian Husky who is very prey drive (will kill small animals) and food driven and active in general. Daisy just has a different temperament, different nerves, different drive. I can't raise them all the same way and expect the same result because they are all different dogs.

It doesn't really matter IMO if it's normal Pom behaviour or not. My beagle does lots of things that make other beagle owners go It sounds like you need some guidance on what to do and what not to do with her, a trainer will help put things into perspective for you even if it seems like common sense to other people. I don't think that's a bad thing and if you feel like you need help, get it.
-
I also agree with SK - why let her have free run of the house if she is being destructive? I would consider a pen to or containing her to one smaller area when you are out. I will be bringing a working line pup home when I get my next pup and she won't have free run of the house at all to help prevent unwanted behaviours and destruction.

This is really an impossible question to answer as every trainer has different methods to deal with different behaviours. Did you ask the trainer about your problem and get an idea of the kind of methods they use before you booked them?

Steve thinks it's unlikely as his behaviour was quite good the whole time, but he can't be 100% sure. Okay, makes you wonder though doesn't it. A dog that was quite a bit older when he showed aggression, then within 12 months has to be euthed due to his symptoms. RIP Buster, thank goodness you had a chance. It does, though I met Busta on a number of occasions and the behaviour he exhibited recently was not behaviour we had seen from him before. Guess we can never know for sure

Personally I would be pre-empting play before it gets to the point where it is too rough.

Beagles aren't known for being dog sports dogs but IMO they are pretty versatile. My beag does agility and obedience and excels at any scent based sport/activity  She also excels at eating everything in my house... -
Barking And Anti-bark Collars
huski replied to Michelleva's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I am not a fan of citronella collars. They have a much lower success rate than electric bark collars and the aversive (the smell of citronella) hangs around on the dogs coat long after its barked so the punishment is not clear. I wouldn't buy a cheapie collar either - you generally get what you pay for and if you were going to use one, better off using a good quality one IMO. -
K9pro Online Shop Great Customer Service
huski replied to sunnyjohn's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Wolfgirl The express post shipping option is there so it is express post from the time it leaves, not the time the order is placed. We explain this here on our website. Our post office doesn't scan express post items when they receive them to be shipped, it bugs us (it bugs me when I get things shipped up to me!) but unfortunately we can't do anything about that. Your order was definitely shipped on Thursday afternoon, if it's not received by the next business day (that will be Tuesday if you have a PH on Monday) we will raise a dispute for you. I've also sent you an email :) -

Hey Wolfgirl I'm sorry you are disappointed. We don't ship items every day, so your order would be express post from the day it leaves here not the day you place the order. We do make this clear in the shipping FAQ on our website. We wish we could ship items every day but unfortunately we just don't have capacity do this at the moment Also apologies you couldn't get through to us on the phone - Steve has been on the office phone most of today so not sure if that was why! -
Great will check it out I wonder if it would be toooo ambitious to get a set (about to enter CCD) LOL I don't plan to compete in UD with my current dog but I train scent work for fun anyway, it's fun and something different for the dog and helps your skills as a trainer :)
