  1. 110% agree with you PF. I experience much the same things with my dogs, it is obvious when I am handling them how they are affected by my nerves/anxiety etc. I totally agree again. I see this ALL the time at agility and obedience - the dogs that are the worst around other dogs are the ones whose owners regularly reinforce to them that other dogs have a super high value and are super fun to play with. I can almost guarantee that the dogs that go to the dog park etc to play with other dogs regularly have a harder time focusing than the dogs that don't play with a range of other dogs on a regular basis.
  2. I am thinking of flying Daisy to NSW in July for a holiday, but I am yet to convince myself she will be ok
  3. I haven't used SG's methods to build drive, but I know people who have with success. I used a different program but have able to get a good result in terms of drive building with my non-working breed as well.
  4. I've had comments like "oh my dog could do that if I had food too" in response to people seeing me train Daisy at the park etc (I usually think 'really? your dog could do an Open change of position or a drop on recall as long as you had food? how about you take some of mine and demonstrate now?' but in reality just shrug it off).
  5. I haven't heard great things about their temperaments, either. Sooooo not my cup of tea.
  6. Thanks again guys! Skip, Shell came with me when we went to visit the breeder and took some puppy pics while we were there. You can check them out in this thread here http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=217423
  7. I don't really care that much but my preference is for a female (next pup will be a dog sports dog). I just want a girl, I can't explain why, but if the right male came along I'd consider it.
  8. What do you mean? the current crates already have doors in the front, one side, and the top...or are you not talking about the doors? No I mean how you have the flaps that can roll down and cover the doors - it's the reason why I bought the K9 Royale crate (GREAT crate too btw) because Daisy does better when she's totally covered.
  9. http://www.facebook.com/pages/manage/#!...118920428118492 It sounds like the council didn't respond to Steve's offer, so he's going to contact them tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
  10. I heard a rumour that K9 Pro might be getting crates in with flaps in the side, might be worth asking them.
  11. Apparently the dog is going to be PTS tomorrow. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/822931...bout-dog-attack
  12. Exactly Cos. Thread you were referring to: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=212434
  13. Jackie, perhaps you need to step away from the computer for a bit. You are clearly getting overly emotional about this and it is clouded your ability to think rationally. I never even attempted to "demean your intelligence". And my point is that you have absolutely no idea why the GR in this story behaved the way it did. How do you know it was an "unprovoked attack"? How do you know so much more about this dog and it's behaviour than anyone else in this thread? How can you make a decision on what should be done with this dog without ever having even met it?
  14. I find it amazing that you know so much about this individual dog without ever having actually met it to assess it's behaviour. How do you know more about this dog and it's behaviour than any one of us? ETA: IMO, which I have stated several times, ALL dogs involved in attacks like these should have a behaviourial assessment done. Your post makes no sense to me though Jackie - first you say human aggressive dogs should all be PTS (unless they fit whatever whacky criteria you think makes their display of aggression 'ok') and then you say we have too many dogs PTS
  15. Just saw this Horty. I'm so sorry :D run free Kuga
  16. Yeah it is very exciting, especially as it has taken a LOT of time and research for me to make a decision on what breed to get. It was very tempting!!
  17. Dawwwwwwwwwwwww they are just so lovely!! Yep they are very special and I can see why they are in such demand Me, well, eventually ;) Like Shell said there is a relatively lengthy wait but after meeting these pups I can see why, fingers crossed I'll have one next year some time
  18. I used to live near a highly people aggressive GR, I think the family ended up having to have it PTS, it had to be locked away from the kids and anyone who would come into the house. The dog looked to small to be a Maremma IMO.
  19. Hey, I agree with you, I do think that if this had been another breed more of the general public would be calling for it to be PTS, but my opinion is in no way shaped by the dog's breed, I would be calling for a behaviourial assessment no matter what kind of dog it was.
  20. But the point is we won't know the answer to any of these questions until the dog is assessed and we know exactly how bad the behaviour is. At the moment we only have the news articles to go off which IMO are never going to give you an accurate representation on what actually occurred.
  21. If the council seized the dog, I'm not sure it's up to the owners? ETA: I read your post wrong and I see what you are saying. Only time will tell I guess, I would be very disappointed in the council if the offer of assessment and rehabilitation was not taken up.
  22. Firstly you don't know the reason the dog snapped and secondly even if you did, it could never explain the myriad of reasons there are other dog attacks That's not what I'm saying. It's the bigger picture. If we have every dog involved in an attack like this PTS without a behaviourial assessment, what will we learn? How can we prevent other dogs attacks without examining why the dog behaved in that way in the first place?
  23. IMO these are all questions that we can guess the answer to but until the dog has a behaviourial assessment we will not know the answer. I don't want to speak for K9 Pro, but I am sure he would not rehabilitate and then rehome a dog that would "snap again". I really hope the dog does get to have a behaviourial assessment even if it is still PTS, simply having it PTS will mean we learn nothing from attacks like these and that we have no knowledge gained on how to prevent them from happening again.
  24. Oh RS, that is the thing with beagle babies. They HAVE to be cute, otherwise no one would be stupid enough to buy one
  25. Thanks chook LOL I don't know if I should answer that, I might sound a bit obsessed My preference is for a girl but I am flexible, I really just want a dog that is suitable for what I am after which coming from these lines I am sure it will be. I have thought of some names, I want something cute but English-y. ETA: I knew that I'd probably have to wait a fair while to get what I want which is why I started researching when I did.
