  1. I COMPLETELY agree and this is something I feel very strongly about! Even if the dog does end up being PTS, nothing is learned from the incident if a behaviourial assessment is not done so we can understand why it happened. Simply having a dog PTS does nothing to prevent future attacks from happening, but if we can learn why they occur in the first place, a lot more can be done prevention wise. I was talking about this on FB today, Steve from K9 Pro has just said that he has contacted the council and offered a behaviourial assessment on the dog for no cost, link here. Will be interesting to see what comes of this situation.
  2. Totally agree with whoever said beagle babies! I also think Sibes babies are ADORABLE. I met some English Springer Spaniels pups on the weekend that were pretty darn adorable too...
  3. Hi everyone Just thought I'd post an update. I went and met a field ESS breeder over the past weekend and got to meet quite a number of her dogs, as well as some gorgeous puppies. It really solidified my decision to go with an ESS, the breed is everything I want and more, now I just have to be patient and wait for a puppy (waiting list is about 12 months). Very exciting to have finally made a decision, and I will definitely continue my research into the breed while I wait for a puppy over the next year
  4. Go Ziggy!! He is an awesome dog to watch, TSD.
  5. Enough get up and go for your needs huski? Enough I can make do with I suppose...
  6. You gonna do retrieving when you get your Springer? Not at this stage Obedience and agility is the plan. Besides I want a dog I can tug with a lot and I know that can make retrieving training tricky.
  7. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW baby Em!!!! I have no idea about retrieving at all, but she looks super awesome to me
  8. Do you think that is a socialisation thing purely or a nerve issue? We can never socialise our dogs to everything, socialisation IMO is about teaching our dogs how to handle new experiences, not just exposing them to them. Totally agree. I don't take my adult dogs to dog parks and I would never take a puppy to one.
  9. How awesome for you! You must be so excited. I gotta say, I love reading about TSD's little Em. Yes me too and she's what first got me interested in the breed a few months ago! I wish it wasn't so far away but I'm glad at the same time, gives me time to prepare and hopefully knock off a couple of obedience titles with Daisy.
  10. Thanks everyone WL = working line. The pup will be an obedience and agility dog for me
  11. LOL thanks for asking guys  Yep TO looking at a WL Springer Spaniel ;) I was blown away by the dogs and pups I met on the weekend and will be willing to wait as long as it takes to get one.
  12. At least he didn't get a tiara. LOL! (I was secretly very jealous about the tiara)
  13. Awww shucks It's not like anyone should be surprised anyway, I'm very much the same on DOL
  14. Hey, I'm only hitting back, everyone has been paying me out about my chattiness
  15. Hahahaha ...... I actually wondered what time it was before we left. I wasn't wearing my watch. Yes - I am thought of as 'quiet' by some. Some?? Do you mean deaf people??
  16. I visited a breeder on the weekend and met some absolutely lovely puppies. I'm hoping to be placed on the waiting list for one - will be a longish wait (12 months +) but it will be worth it for sure and after meeting the pups and dogs I can see why!
  17. *sigh*, it's a hard job, but someone's gotta do it... Now Erny, no need to be jealous just because you are such a quiet wall flower - oh wait, wasn't it you who stayed up chatting to us until oh... about 2am? :p
  18. I'm back in Brissy now after a whirlwind Melbourne trip, HUGE congratulations to Shell for taking out Master Responsible Pet Owner, I cannot imagine the award going to a better or more deserving person. Well done to all the other winners too We had a great night and it was awesome to catch up with some good friends and meet some long time DOLers in real life! I have no idea what you are talking about You've clearly got me confused with someone else :p Awww come on, even Troy's laughing at me now  It is an art you know Was great to catch up with you again Anne.
  19. I encourage people in my classes to use food or toys rewards even at trialling level! Would you go to work for free every day? I wouldn't. My obedience competition dog "still" gets food rewards in training and at trials. Out of curiosity Muddybear what is your background in dogs?
  20. Same here - I'm a volunteer instructor and there is certainly no $$
  21. Hi Muddybear You can always let us know whereabouts you are and we can refer you to someone. Alternatively, this article sums it up nicely IMO: http://www.k9pro.com.au/pages.php?pageid=88
  22. OMG that is heartbreaking
  23. Thanks Kavik! We've only done a little bit of table work but Daisy picked up the automatic drop pretty quickly. Will stick with the auto drop in that case!
  24. Stupid noob question, does the dog have to drop on the table? I've seen some dogs who stand instead of drop?
