So sorry RL. Run free Zara :smurfanim:

Our leashes get a lot of abuse and I've never had one abruptly fail on me. So there is a point as far as I'm concerned: a cheap leash does the job, and I don't have to worry about whether it's got wet and then dragged through sand, got the clip clogged up, or the handle dunked in seawater. They hold together remarkably well IME. For the harnesses and collars it's more about the dogs' comfort and safety. I've had cheap leashes snap and break a couple of times, never again! Cheap leashes only do the job until they break on you, no way would I trust a cheap leash especially when handling bigger dogs or dogs that lunge a lot etc. Besides which after holding a well made leather leash nothing else feels as nice and soft. I mostly want nice looking bowls because they are in our house and I want something that looks nice. They don't have to be expensive, but I'm bored with stainless steel.

I love Richard's routines! He is awesome and a really lovely person too. I was lucky enough to go to a seminar of his when he was in Oz last year. I think that one will have to be one of my new favorites.

I agree with RnB, how can anyone make a judgment on what should happen to the dogs without knowing all the facts of the case? How does anyone here know if the dog that died didn't start something first? I wonder if she would have died had it been a fight between her and one dog rather than two? I think being declared dangerous is the right outcome for two dogs that have never been involved in an incident before.

Anyone else's dog, Erny, and I would have said VERY clever but your dog? I would expect him to be vacuuming and pouring you a drink

Hey funnily enough I have these exact bowls for Cherry and Shandi, was hoping to get something a bit different for Mish and Daisy though (don't ask me why). I do like the ones above though, they are great!

from an old DOL thread. Thanks!! I will give them a call next week.

Thanks I saw that but that's an area code for NSW not TAS which is where they've moved
-
Thanks so much everyone for all your suggestions!! I would really love some Studio Sebastian bowls but have no idea how to get them - has anyone had any luck ordering them direct from Tasmanian?

Beagle says: "Zoomies do not impress"

He tried soooooo hard to play with her but she was so not interested

He's so attached to you already, he really is amazing and you can clearly see what a fantastic temperament he has. He is truly a lovely lovely dog :D

I think it needs to be clarified that Sid is 10000000000000000 times cuter in person. He is such an awesome dude :D I could barely resist stealing him

They actually have stainless bowls at the moment, but they are in holder bowl thingies. actually here they are: (excuse the gross pic)
-
Thanks guys! Some great suggestions here I'll have to check out. Where can you order the Studio Sebastian bowls?

I want to get Micha and Daisy some really nice dog bowls. I like the look of bright ceramic ones but I am open to ideas. The only downside to ceramic bowls in this house is that they can get broken. They have matching bowls at the moment but they really need replacing. I just haven't seen any I really like and I am very close to just getting some plain boring stainless ones!

Do You Refer To Yourself As You Dogs "mum Or Dad"?
huski replied to shells's topic in General Dog Discussion
No not really. Other people refer to me as my dogs' 'mum' and I don't mind but I don't tend to do it myself. Which is weird because it totally seems like something I'd do! -
Very true and lots of them are probably volunteers too! I wish they did obedience or rally demos.

Sid! I love you. You are the cutest French Fry I've ever seen. I am definitely not going to steal you so Huga should definitely trust me to be around you and let me take you and keep you cuddle you. xx Aunty Huski

Potential To Compete/train
huski replied to Mason_Gibbs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I think that can be the case RS but if I had my heart set on a retrieving dog, wouldn't you want to see a retrieving instinct in the dog before you bought it home rather than chancing it or making your job potentially harder? In a potential dog sports dog (now I know nothing about retrieving so I am just talking about what I'd want to see when picking a new dog) I'd want a dog that either displayed a lot of workable prey drive (chasing/tugging a toy) OR a lot of food drive. If the dog didn't obviously have either of those things I wouldn't be taking it home with me, same with if the dog shut down in a new environment or didn't engage with me or didn't display a workable amount of food or prey drive. -
The main Brisbane ones. Sure in principle that is a great idea but keep in mind how massive these events are, there will be HUNDREDS of dogs there and they aren't all going to be under effective control You will probably be fine when you go but just be aware of the risks and don't hope that people or the RSPCA will do the right thing regarding dogs that display inappropriate behaviour. I definitely would not take anything other than a very stable dog. The atmosphere can lead to dogs getting over aroused pretty easily.

Potential To Compete/train
huski replied to Mason_Gibbs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Sure there are lots of things you can teach but if I was after a competition dog specifically I would be looking for the drive/traits/instincts/temperament I want before deciding if I wanted the dog. I wouldn't get the dog and hope for the best if it didn't show at least some obvious potential. -
His enthusiasm is great! I have no idea what others would suggest, but if you find him forging a bit because you are throwing the ball ahead of you and he is predicting it try throwing the toy to the side or behind you to keep him guessing where the reward will come from. I found Micha would forge a bit in anticipation if I was using his ball as a reward so I started throwing it behind me or bouncing it on the spot etc to keep him guessing so he wouldn't forge to predict my throw.

From past experience unfortunately they don't. The general public have a funny idea on what constitutes acceptable canine behaviour and with the number of dogs that attend these events it's not possible for RSPCA staff to be on top of every dog that displays poor behaviour. Besides which - I've seen dogs attack others, fights break out etc and RSPCA officials not say or do anything about it. I would only take VERY stable dogs to these kinds of events. Sorry to put a damper on it but better to be prepared IMO!
