  1. TLC which stockist do you use if you don't mind me asking?
  2. Easy. Sent him an MMS with the following: "We pick her up tomorrow". :D
  3. I've also heard good things about bow wow meow
  4. Thanks TLC My hope was that I could get her to a satisfactory weight on the puppy then make the transition to the adult. Been pretty happy with it so far
  5. I've started Lucy on Black Hawk for about a week now. Still too early to see results so fingers crossed! Even though she's nearly 2.5 now, I've put her on the Puppy version purely for the fat content. She's a Great Dane - should I be concerned about this? She was on Uncle Albers previously so can't be sure she was getting what she needed nutrition-wise from that anyway but she's just so skinny I'm prepared to try anything
  6. I don't want to think about it too much so will just C & P from my thread in Rainbow Bridge for my beautiful Tess. "After Tess went insane, we asked for a very quick minute to say our goodbyes to her - we didn't want to prolong it or distress her further (and advised the staff of this) and were left in the room for about 15 minutes with Tess crying, very anxious and confused and to have not one, but two cleaners come in and remove rubbish from the room and ask "What's wrong?" whilst we were trying to say our goodbyes only served to add fuel to the fire." I had lost my grandfather only days before so was an emotional wreck and the staff looked at me like I was totally insane. Worst experience of my life.
  7. Last year I was paying $30.50 for Lucy (Great Dane) and now they want $46.
  8. I'm so sorry Staffy Luv
  9. Hi Guys Apologies in advance for what I'm sure is a totally stupid question. We adopted Maggie nearly two years ago now after she was surrendered to the pound after having just had a litter, about 10kg underweight ( and her ears had also been torn apart from her head but that's another story). Anyway, she's always been quite a portly girl since living with us ( ) with very obvious nipples so I'm sure I would have noticed (particularly as she is a bit of a tart for a tummy rub), but she seems to be missing one/had one retract? Poor old chook came home a few months ago infested with fleas that she picked up from daycare so there was quite a bit of scratching going on so I'm wondering whether she's scratched it off? There's no evidence of scabbing... Is this possible? I guess the more scary option I'm considering is that it's a mammary cancer of some sort causing the nipple to invert? I know in humans that inverted nipples aren't problematic - unless they suddenly become so as it is an indication of an underlying tumour causing tension on the nipple and surrounding ducts. Any thoughts? (And just a photo cause I love her ) :
  10. Uncle Albers for my two - was really suspicious about it at first given it's price but both girls have beautiful shiny coats and it's the only food we could manage to get Lucy (Great Dane) to maintain weight. If I had the money we'd probably go with Eagle Pack Power or Royal Canin Giant Adult. Desperately need to put Maggie on something with a lower fat content as she's a portly little pork chop. Have yet to try Black Hawk but are giving it a great deal of consideration My only concern is Lucy tends to drop weight on a predominantly lamb-based dry meal.
  11. Crate training has easily saved me from a nervous breakdown I agree entirely re: the benefits in terms of finding emergency accommodation. For some reason the idea of looking after a Great Dane doesn't seem so intimidating to many when you tell people they're quite happy in their crate for bedtimes, meals, etc.
  12. TOP L: Maggie TOP R: Lucy BOTTOM: Tess ( )
  13. Nor should you - I always love seeing her smiling face
  14. Thanks!! She thinks she's pretty special too (Any excuse to post a photo - I'm such a proud Mum )
  15. Pheebs if thats your dog in your avvy he is a gorgeous looking dog. Thanks! It's actually a girl.. We love her so much. She's the beefiest, tankiest looking Boxer X so we had to find a girly name for her so went with "Maggie". We adopted her from the Lost Dogs Home in January of last year
  16. I was lucky enough to meet two of these beautiful guys at the vets a few weeks ago. Sooo sweet from what I could gather, but much much bigger than I had anticipated!! They were all shaggy and had just been for a big swim. Such smoochy dogs :D
  17. This is exactly what I did I must admit I was a bit anxious around bull, mastiff & brachy breeds (and I use these terms veryloosely). Having had no experience with them as a child or in my youth... I decided to go and spend time with these guys in the local shelters and ended up being a complete sucker and came home with a very tanky, very cranky looking Maggie (who sometimes goes by the very tough nickname of 'Marguerite'): Best thing I ever did.
  18. Oh Brilliant. Just what the Dane world needs. (I can say this as I am proudly owned by the "Insane Dane" that I made reference to in the other thread ). Should probably add that I'm proudly owned by her, not proud that she's insane
  19. We were really fortunate to be able to run our three bitches together with very little problems (there was aggression over food which was easily managed with crating). Our 11-year-old weim passed from brain cancer leaving the 18mth-Great dane and 3yo Boxer X remaining. The Weim and Boxer never saw eye-to-eye but were happy enough to "co-exist". We recently took on a female foster Weimaraner and now in hindsight realise just how lucky we were before. There have been a few spats between the Boxer and the recent Weimaraner addition... and I've now had to keep them separated for the safety of all involved. The weimaraner came away with a nick to her ear (despite being supervised at the time and with her doing absolutely nothing that I could see to bring about this aggressive behaviour in my Boxer), but I can definitely see this behaviour escalating in my Boxer bitch so I am simply not going to risk it. Raineth, I guess if the threat of injury (or worse, death!) isn't enough to dissuade these people then you may as well be shouting at a brick wall. ETA: I'd be taking an approach to appeal to their sense of selfishness. Ie: "Do you really want the ongoing stress of monitoring and supervising three bitches forever? Sounds like such hard work!" yadda, yadda, yadda...
  20. I too receive these frequently.. although they have been rather quiet as of late.
  21. Thank you all for your advice I think I will take on board Stormie and Chris the Rebel Wolfs advice and go with the comfortis (hey, i've tried pretty much every other product in existence... why not just throw more money up in the air and hope it works ) Thanks Staff'N'Toller - we've had great results with the Capstar but the little blighters just keep on coming back. I'll now know to not be so demanding and will hopefully play the waiting game as the fleas have truly made themselves welcome  I guess I'm just hesitant to keep using the nu-heart (Ivermectin) as my Weimaraner had a neurological "episode" about two days after using it and died two weeks later. Despite my insistence that there may have been an interaction, every vet I spoke with at the time said the episode was unrelated but it still leaves me feeling very, very uneasy. The fact that the Interceptor combines all the worming components is great
  22. Hi everyone Unfortunately the sentinel hasn't been as effective as we had hoped. I'm thinking of changing them over to Comfortis, continuing with the 3-monthly intestinal worming tablet and the monthly nu-heart (Ivermectin). I've seen a couple of warnings about the combined use of Comfortis and Ivermectin. Can anyone please advise? Some sources advise not to combine the two, others say this only applies in cases of higher-than-usual doses of ivermectin to combat things such as mange. Is anyone able to advise please?
