how sad is it that when we look , there are just so many amstaff x's & staffy x's ? I had no idea. -
apologies if this is a duplicate .. thought I posted it a few days ago ... but can't find it.... maybe it was zapped? A friend lost her old dog last year and has decided to now get another companion. She studies, and does some work from home ...has lots of friends with dogs ,and has lots of contact with young kids . The yard is well fenced /padlocked..and a dog would be indoors a lot . Greyhound temperament seems to suit - however she loves free-running her dog at the beach , or at my place here , etc ... so no grey . I can guarantee much love and an interesting life for any dog who shares this space - yes, quite a bit of time alone , but lots of couch/bed time as well :) Thanks , people. here is her 'list' : female for sure medium to large (although I saw some CUTE teeny pooches today that nearly stole my heart! but then they started yapping....) med to long hair (or poodly type - just not really short hair) NOT barky or yappy around 3 years plus (happy for an older doggy) not too much energy (evening strolls every day or couple of days are ok, ) snuggly (will be an "on the bed" dog :p) NOT staffy looking (something about staffy's and me - just don't gel) more pointed head/nose than snuff-nose confident - not too nervy

From what I've read .. he is a lawyer .... so yes, he is good at picking out articles/studies - it's the juxtaposition of them, and his 'marketing' which makes me cringe .

Poor boy, he sounds as though he has pain .... so hope it's nothing drastic .

One is a boy and one is a girl, so there's no need for the owner to rush off and desex anything. Desexing is not going to instantly cure what could potentially be a bad situation, however given the dogs have met and from the sounds of it all they want to do is play, then it's unlikely to result in aggression. Stafford bitches do not normally fight with male dogs of any breed or cross, once they have been introduced. If she was going to rip him a new one, she would have done it when the first met. My suggestion would be to take them both for long walks together and keep them separate for the first couple of days. Get them walking side by side and comfortable with each other and let the initial excitement wear off. Then bring them home and let them off together supervised in the yard. We have introduced many adult Staffords into the home without incident. seems they are both male ? I agree with the bolded bit ! :)

I advise getting professional help with this - it can go very wrong in a second The one you think is 'top' dog may be weakening , one may be resource guarding ..... it would be advisable to ask someone here for a recommendation ..get an assessment done ,then address the future management . sorry it's all gone bad.

A friend of mine who lost her dog last year is thinking seriously about once again having a dog companion ... she has been to the AWL, GAP adoption day , and is scanning pet Rescue ... here is part of an email... female for sure medium to large (although I saw some CUTE teeny pooches today that nearly stole my heart! but then they started yapping....) med to long hair (or poodly type - just not really short hair) NOT barky or yappy around 3 years plus (happy for an older doggy) not too much energy (evening strolls every day or two are ok, but don't want to have to run with it or walk twice a day etc) snuggly (will be an "on the bed" dog :p) NOT stafford looking (something about stafford and me - just don't gel) more pointed head/nose than snuff-nose confident - not too nervy /anxious MUST be dog friendly ..there are a lot of doggy friends to visit , and who come visiting :) Toddler friendly would be terrific as friends have small kids . She has been looking at Greys recently - loves their nature , but as she comes up here and to beaches etc wants a dog who is able to free run. Last dog was a Belgian Shepherd ..from puppy til into her teens ... No GREAT panic, but sooner rather than later :) person is currently studying, plus does some work from home , and lives alone .

LINK There are some interesting bits on how dogs that look like x may not be x at all ...and the importance of training/socialisation , and being aware of what may cause bites .

Why? You have experience in large, powerful guarding breeds that are sharp as a knifes edge? You have experience in protection and dominant dogs? You have the power to choke off or slam down your own dog when it decides to have a go at you? No. Few people in Australia do. These romantic notions of nawwww I wanna breed the banned breeds BS sometimes makes me glad we DON'T have these dogs in the country. We're incapable of controlling the watered down stuff we have let alone strong breeds like this. BSL is crap yes, but 1) idiots keep breeding pound fodder and 2) people keep buying these dogs and then crying when they get seized. Yes it's the dog that suffers but we can't get the whole dog management thing through our thick heads in this country at all. We are miles behind a lot of western countries in training and management I think work on education before beating the same BSL is bad drum. .......good post Nekhbet. +1, excellent post + 1 totally agree In agreement here as well...
