  1. :) Thanks for the bagful of peanuts!!
  2. or you may get re-directed aggression ?
  3. I use the plastic coated wire/cable sold in hardware stores get someone good with knots to attach a swivel clip to one end .. and make a loop at the other end. Thread a belt thru the loop .. clip dog on the other end .. and off you go! handsfree longline
  4. have you a friend with another dog? perhaps another dog will be a calming/motivating influence..and won't gibe him a chance to think about the negative aspects of that stretch of roadway???? I am just brainstorming - I've seen dogs refuse to walk for a myriad of reasons .....
  5. Is this this route JUST on the way home... or do you use it on the way 'out' as well? If it is teh same path used when setting off - is there any hesitation then? is there a different surface ? Are there manhole covers? are there sprinklers set into the lawned edges? Was he ever scared on that stretch as a puppy? By anything????
  6. Baits are a worry Luckily - around here on gov't land they are being done correctly - ie: chicken wingtips .. BURIED and marked - and collected if not taken by a fox. There is no way a fox will carry off a wingtip .. and, being buried and small... it's very unlikely raptors would pick them up, thankfully. Other properties however .. it's just drive around in the ute and throw the baits out the window
  7. Jules - rescue remedy used liberally for you ; muzzles for dogs, and hopefully, a nice rental soon
  8. Dee Al - this needs the help of a professional Some one recommended , who can accurately assess what's happening , and work with you to put a stop to this behaviour. Aggression is not something to experiment with .
  9. get some njce plastic basket muzzles !! Honestly - years ago, after Hamlet's surgery for obstruction .. he wore his muzzle whenever we went out .. for probably 12 months or more - and it was such a relief , knowing he wasn't going to pick up anything Make sure tho, if you do .. that you fit them properly .. so they can pant - open mouth WIDE, and drink comfortably
  10. That is a lovely peaceful sketch to keep
  11. I think they try & explain it in THIS THREAD
  12. these photos are like peanuts- we can not just have ONE ;)
  13. is he otherwise fine and relaxed in his movement? can he jump/run/sit happily ? How long has he been doing this? Are there any aggro dogs behind fences or anything?
  14. what bitches are around? it may be a sniff of something tempting which is starting it off....
  15. Sounds a bit odd- perhaps the vet needs to be visited
  16. The longer you leave your boy, the better it will be for his bones
  17. You really have not understood what we are trying to explain I am NOT against trained/accredited/registered therapy dogs., Lord knows I spent many years training dogs to be just that! I AM against people manipulating laws/'the system' to allow them to have their beloved pet with them at all times. *leaves thread*
  18. These comments got me thinking ..and so as to not hijack a thread - thought I'd start a shiny new one!
  19. I am so rusty I cannot really answer it clearly ... I hope someone knowledgable and coherent can help you ;) All i can think is lack of stimulus/ frustration/. I do remember customs/GD's all kept dogs kennelled fairly strictly .. it was believed that then, when they were taken out for training , they were more keen/focussed .. Apologies for my mushy brain
  20. Not qualified to really make informed comment - but it does sound as if the kennelling exacerbated his prey drive... We were always taught, (with guide dog training) That a lot of problems a dog may have - can be masked during training/constant environment - but may well re appear under a change of handler/environment. Therefore, initial 'gut feelings' were an important thing... (remembering the GD's often had inexperienced dog owners/handlers waiting at the end of their training - most were able to be rehomed as pets/detector dogs etc. )
  21. jacqui - I don't think you are actually reading and understand what folks are writing. I No One here that I can see is saying one thing against Dogs who provide balance, dogs who are detecting pre seizure activity, monitoring diabetics for hypos, detecting heightened anxiety levels and leading someone to a quiet place ..all this and more is a wonderful service which these trained dogs provide. However, someone who feels they 'must' have their dog with them somewhere at all times ..and gets it declared a 'therapy dog' to allow them to do so , is being dishonest .. That's all.
  22. Guess I was also thinking a more restrictive kennel environment?..Singly housed.. restricted vision, etc. Did the original comment come with a general 'kennel' scenario?Or after an incident somewhere?
