  1. You said the R$PCA had little money. You are wrong. Again I was referring to YOU and YOUR job not every tom dick and harry. You were the one that complained about your wages and time away from family. If that is your priority then so be it.
  2. Your older dog sounds gorgeous. Is that her in the sig? I worry more for her than the pup. Some dogs do better by themselves.
  3. Wonder when they'll bring in the $50 desexing for all dogs (and cats).
  4. Dog and cat food... yep. But there are a whole world of animals in their care that don't eat dog and cat food. Thousands of them. All creatures remember?? Low wages and difficult working conditions? Yep. Unskilled? Certainly not. You'd be amazed at the highly skilled positions needed to run these places... Very few large organisations have unskilled people in senior management... And yes, some suckers do it not for the cash, but for their own other reasons. I'll be in that queue then! Cap in hand!! Could be waiting a while though... Better bring the camping gear and thermos!! eta - spelling... You mentioned your job of cleaning, feeding and medicating. That is what I referred to as unskilled labour, which is a low paid job. Why don't you call Uncle Hugh Wirth and ask him his salary? ;)
  5. He needs to be sorted so he doesn't become a larger dog taking chunks out of your 6 yr old dog. Was he taken away from his dam young? This kind of bad manner is usually sorted out in a hurry by the pups mother. Your 6 yr old dog may get fed up with him and do damage as well. Pups play fighting is normal, dogs losing chunks and bleeding copious amounts, that needs vet attention, is not acceptable. Do you take him to puppy school? obedience? This pup needs to learn some manners.
  6. That figure is for one state, Victoria, not the whole country.
  7. Looks like they get a few Jo Gullibles working for them to, for a pittance.
  8. Please don't try the poor broke RSPCA trip. Great isn't it Wazzat?? Crisovar - you have in depth knowledge do you? Or are you following the general hearsay and gossip circles that say otherwise? When you have been on the inside and worked for them, when you have endlessly cut corners and your family have gone without due to low wages so you can keep trying to help animals each day, then you can speak of how much money they have. When you have seen the admin staff scrounging to pay the salary bill each fortnight, and have personally pleaded with business owners for another couple of weeks to pay animal food bills, then you can speak of how much money they have. When you have donated endless hours of your own time - unpaid, and been so tired you think you can't even stand yet turn up the next day and start cleaning, feeding and medicating all over again because you can't afford to put on any more staff but the animals are needy, then you can talk of how much money they have. There is always multiple sides to arguments. The view is very different from the inside. Don't believe gossip... I'll get off my soapbox now. With total equity of over 52 million dollars no the RSPCA is not poor. Quite alot for a not-for profit org isn't it? You got poor wages because you are in a low-skilled job, not because they are "poor". If the area you worked in had to scrounge around for money then that is mismangement of funds and poor accounting systems, not "the RSPCA is poor".
  9. RSPCA ACT are offering a desexing program for low income owners, and have run a public / low income vet clinic for some time. Both RSPCA ACT and DAS pound ACT have exceptionally high rehoming rates. Over 90% for both I think? Far higher than a good many pounsd and shelters across the country, so certainly heading in a positive direction. The old routine of "RSPCA ACT only has good rehome figures as they send all the dogs to DAS to be pts" has been done to death. DAS rehome rates show otherwise. I think I recall having heard Mr Linke speak about early desexing, and that he supports it for cats but not necesarily for dogs as he is aware there are medical issues surrounding it. You'd best ask him directly though. If the RSPCA was serious about desexing then with all their $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ they could easily subsidise desexing dogs, at $50 a go, for ALL income levels. Imagine the amount of custom they'd get if they marketed that. The day that happens would be the same day flying pink pigs come shooting out of Ingrid Newkirk's (the other white meat...I mean idiot) backside.
  10. I think it's a reasonable request by the council. Your dogs getting out perpetuated all the events that followed. It's irrelevant were the pug was (lawful or not) in regards to what has been set out by nuisance dog order. The only thing I'd be looking for is vet evidence in regards to puncture wounds on the pug in case something happens again and your dogs are declared DD's with a history.
  11. My son does EXACTLY the same thing. he loves jumping into the whelp box with the pups. He got pee'd on a couple days ago so he wasn't to thrilled about that.lol.
  12. yep for that. If an otherwise healthy puppy has had a long journey down the uterus or the mother is getting tired when delivering, this method has worked for me. Have gotten many puppies "going" again this way. I wouldn't work 15 mins on a pup though.
  13. I use livamol products (horse products) and sometimes equinade. For smelling good on show day I use Isle of Dogs spray.
  14. Eventually I might get a license for whippets but not particularly interested in group or all breeds.
  15. That's right and labor still doesn't get my vote.
  16. Is it only you that goes to the shows? If so then get a cheaper gazebo like an oztrail. I have a Canopy gazebo and it is very good but it weighs ALOT.
  17. I love the day out I love doing well with dogs I bred I love the shopping at big shows (maxed out the CC at Sunbury ) I love watching other breeds I admire I enjoy catching up with like-minded dog people
  18. These are the 2 policies re: dogs I could find at the liberal site: Puppy_Farms Review_Of_Domestic_Animals_Act I'm voting for liberal this year. For all you voters out there. If you choose a party other than liberal make sure you check where their preferences go otherwise your vote may still go to Labor.
  19. My dogs are doing well on this. Been on it for over a month now.
  20. They are gorgeous SBT101. Which one is mine?
  21. At $39 for 450grams, my dog better poop BIS ribbons.
  22. On a bad show day: Spending ages getting dogs and kids organised for the show. Spending ages setting up the gazebo, getting dogs sorted.........and then spend 2 mins in the show ring before going home.
  23. Here is an interesting audio I came across via FB. It is lengthy and quite unbiased in regards to the American pet food industry. Relevant to us due to many premium dog foods being imported from the USA. Also talks about raw, vegetarian diets, grains and variety needed in dog foods. I found this quite fascinating. HERE
