  1. I have had success with the Eagle Pack Power formula for getting weight on. If you look on EP's website the Anchovy food is actually recommended for less active dogs and weight management. I was feeding it and was frustrated at how skinny Boo was then read their site...
  2. I emailed EP about the supply issues. They got back to me within 24 hours and have said that there is a container currently at the port - they are hoping to get this in the next week. Will then be distributed to the wholesalers and the retailers will then purchase it from there. Next container will follow in August. Sounds like the food is a good 2 weeks away at least.
  3. Just wanted to give these guys some credit for fantastic customer service. Located a bag of food with them yesterday around lunchtime - they knew I was desperate as I'd run out so they made sure my order was bumped up the list for dispatch. Came home tonight and the bag of food was on my doorstep (where I told them to leave it). They're in Melbourne and I'm in Sydney and they have a flat $5 rate for delivery.
  4. If you feed Eagle Pack it might pay to stock up. There seems to be supply issues again - after about 5 phone calls I finally located the bag I needed (and it was their last one of it) at Pookinuk this morning. Huge thumbs up to them as they are getting it to me overnight. The 2 Petbarns near me had very little stock available. I was told that EP are not expecting the next shipment until mid August.
  5. I knew you'd enjoy the segment stormie!
  6. That list was food that had been recalled in America I thought? (by the FDA). I am glad they featured Orijien as I had an Orijien cat - thankfully only affected minorly. It was Justin Wympole from SASH they interviewed generally but SASH lead the research into the Orijien cats and saw all affected cats for free. I question the story about the dane - the dane bloated and the owner links this to melamine in the food. Danes are the breed most predisposed to bloat. It also seemed the dog died some time later (and not as a result of bloat).
  7. Throwing another idea in - is it possible there is an injury to the pup and when your child goes to move it in some way, it is guarding itself against being hurt? Perhaps a trip to vet to be on the safe side? Pups can put their backs out easily playing and jumping as they do etc
  8. I would be taking him outside on a lead for toilet time - is a good introduction to being on the lead. Even if they are to be an inside dog they need to be taught about going outside on grass etc otherwise you might run into problems with toileting on walks etc
  9. I would not be having an 8 week old puppy (presuming you got puppy at aged 7 weeks?) in the laundry. Places like laundries and bathrooms are heat sinks and you'll find that it is a very cold area for them- especially in the middle of winter. Is he not able to access outside to go to the toilet? At 8 weeks you should be working hard on toilet training - supervising each trip and using a command word.
  10. Presently him and the cat are both angling for prime position in front of the heater (the cat is winning). Otherwise on the couch beside me or on his super large soft bed in the lounge. At night its either on his other super large soft bed in the bedroom or on the bed right up on the pillows beside me. In winter he gets a throw blanket draped over his back (when he's standing up) and when he goes and lies whereever he ends up tucked up (I have a cold house). OT - how are you finding the chilly sweater?
  11. Neither the harle or the black/ blue are great examples of the breed IMO The ones in the back are very fine and too greyhoundish especially with the gay tail. I have not see any danes like that in Australia (its obviously an overseas pic because of the cropped ears). The harle - appears to be overweight to start with - there is no spring of the ribs I can see. Water could be deceiving but also seems short in the leg and does not seem to have a lot of bone in the front legs. Would love to see a standing pic as it may just be bad angles etc.
  12. Tried feeding a grain free food like Artemis? My last dane used to have evil farts and frequent loose stools and I switched to Orijien (grain free but no longer available here) and this improved things no end. (typed as current dane just let one rip right beside me on couch...)
  13. I recognise that place. Did not put it on my shortlist for some reason but did like it. Congrats on finding a place. You'll enjoy this area. I can't remember exactly where it was - PM me and I'll let you know the good parks.
  14. I was about to say the same - the defendant was ordered to pay a fine and for it to be paid to a charity (as opposed to the court coffers which is usual). The court cannot order the fine be paid to the victim (although it can order reparation be paid). Magistrate obviously is an animal fan and chose RSPCA. I have seen the court usually give the victim a say in where it would go.
  15. Having had a dog with an immune mediate condition (not this though) - there is no avoiding the drugs as you need to suppress the immune system and natural therapy will not do that and this should never be considered as the first option - it should compliment the recommended treatment from the vet.
  16. I use a Chillydogs coat from Canada (www.chillydogs.ca) - they are about $70 from memory - and a number of dane owners have them - they have another called a Great White North too which is over $100 but worth it - this is a good one for walking. They have a chest piece and clip up over the back so do not move like the weatherbeetas (which do have some nice styles/ patterns for the big dogs). The other option is Warley Wear - so PM SBT123 here or look in the Commercial Marketplace - highly recommend these too and I use one of these during the day. You should come and join the dane thread!
  17. A book called Great Sydney Dog Walks has recently been published - there is a website if you google it. It has a comprehensive list of dog parks in it as well as lots of walks. You can also look for dog parks on whereis.com.au
  18. Are you sure it is dandruff and not residue from not rinsing the shampoo out properly?
  19. Reminds me of this: This was a suspected bite - after the initial injection I used phenergen and cortisone to treat for a couple of days (there was a flare up as the injection wore off). I'd contact your vet and seek further advice re additional medication and dosage.
  20. I too had problems when my dane was a puppy but it seems that he grew into his anal glands eventually and we've had no problems since however when he was young we had to get them expressed several times as they were full.
  21. It is not the swelling that is the issue according to the recent study out of Purdue University - it is soaking the food when there is citric acid (a common preservative) in the food which leads to the bloat.
  22. Provided it is not a bloat prone breed. It is believed that soaking of kibble can cause bloat.
  23. Have you ruled out any medical reasons? Otherwise I have recently switched to a power formula for working dogs, nursing mothers etc - I am using Eagle Pack Power and am seeing results.
  24. I ordered one - have been on the look out for them after seeing a friend's sticker. I'm with Greytmate - I do not think a trained and experienced firefighter would go back for an animal if it was not safe for them to do so so.
  25. I am not connected with the vet profession and agree entirely with what stormie wrote.
