  1. Have been involved in the sport since 2001, it is great fun and the dogs love it. We handle the dogs, my son races them. We don't run in the big classes, just one and two dog classes. Love watching overseas races, and bought the DVD of this years Iditarod. We have met some great people and great dogs through the sport.
  2. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) Have owned and enjoyed Siberians for 7 years. Kissindra my first Siberian never jumped fences or tried to escape. Our second girl scaled fences and used items to assist her. The next two got out one night through a hole that you wouldn't think a rabbit could get through. Some Siberians will test the boundaries, the fence or wire you thought was secure one day not so secure the next. As for boredom I would not have thought this is the reason my dogs have tried to get out. They are walked everyday. Two of my dogs escaped from a fully fenced dog park within minutes, they were not bored as they had been playing. One minute they were there, next minute they were out. Going back to my first dog, he would have done none of these things. Sometimes I think I should have stopped at one.
  3. Just wanted to say Shek, that is a lovely pic. Feel free to look at any pics on my website, or if you would like some pics let me know. Good luck, would also like to see any of your drawings.
  4. Don't you mean pretty? Some girls can get away with being called handsome, this is one of them.
  5. Fevah How to pronounce Tyche? Is it pronounced Tike. Knuckles your puppy is sooo cute and grown into a very handsome dog.
  6. Ricky (puppy) Tala puppy Tala Tikaani Tikaani recent The red feral Jatz Wouldn't think she would turn into the bitch she is.
  7. We just use the command "Let's Go" We use Hut really loudly. The word is supposed to be Hike but I missheard it and it was to late to change. We used to walk and the dog would be out in front and I would say it and start running. To stop it's just whoa. Our dogs watch the timer (clock) at races and listen to the count down from five, four, etc. I actually have a pic of Ricky watching the clock. :D On the trail they are told to pick it up or take me home.
  8. Sounds like you are having lots of fun Paddles. If you think one of the dogs is scared of the scooter, try harnessing him/her up and just run along behind them both without the scooter. The thing with a harness is that it needs to be comfortable, you wouldn't like to run with ill fitting shoes.
  9. Started talking to a guy at work today, his dog has what he described as a "wet ear." From what I can gather the dogs ear makes a squelchy noise when he rubs it, similar I would think to swimmers ear. He has taken the dog to the vet , who gave him alcohol based drops that would dry up the ear????? Was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem.
  10. Where abouts are you located Paddles and what sort of dogs do you have?
  11. The neck line is about 30cm. The lead out line is probably about 3mtrs and is attached to the base of the harness, not to the collar. Can measure it properly tonight if you like.
  12. Some interesting information. http://www.ultimateiditarod.com/faqFkids.htm
  13. Ours get raw Salmon every now and then. First grade export shashimi salmon. Mr MP is in the fish trade. :D Dogslife did an article a while ago re cancer and fish in a dogs diet worth a read.
  14. Are you in Sydney? My vet did his thesis on epilepsy. I have had no personal experience but some of my friends that have Sibes have. I was talking to him about it a while ago and he gave me some info to print off. I can post it to you if you like, just PM me a mailing address.
  15. The wrinkles are funny, maybe he needs to grow into his skin. You do come across a lot of GSD/Husky crosses. He also looks similar to a Rough Collie/sibe cross I saw once. Glad he has found a good home, and that your parents are happy with him.
  16. Hi Today the Siberian Husky Club of NSW held their annual Picnic in the Park. This event attracts a lot of pet owners. One of the people that attended today would like to be involved in obedience classes possibly then going into agility. Could anyone assist as far as who she may contact regarding local clubs in the Blacktown area. Thanks
  17. We are very watchful re ticks. Do you have a pond or water on your property? I found when I did a certain walk with my dogs the tick problem increased. Needless to say I don't do that walk anymore. There was a water hole they loved to jump in. The tick season I have been told is more about the hot weather coinciding with the rain and humidity. Apparently they thrive in these condiotions. Do you have longish grass in your yard? If you do I would mow it. The other thing are they the paralysis ticks? Touch wood we have not had a problem the last two years, though we do use a tick preventive. I hope it works out these small creatures can bring a strong healthy dog down very quickly.
  18. Chin up. You were only doing what you thought was best for her, she's a lucky girl to have you Thanks PP I was giving myself a bit of a whipping
