  1. Me too and several other days yet to be confirmed.
  2. Huh? I thought you had alaskans??? :D :D :p :p ;) @ nana
  3. all of them, and I bet they all have different personalities.
  4. Siberians are very adaptable, many rehomed dogs just settle into their new enviroment. Mine don't go on massive runs, we social sled in the winter and we walk everyday. They have each other for company and zoomies through the house at times. Again if you go back to the origins of these dogs, they lived quite a nomadic life and also strangers like fur traders coming into the villages. This is why they are not great watch dogs. As for missing owners, I think we like to give our dogs human traits, I would hope mine would be excited to see me if I left them for a long period of time. Let us know the result.
  5. As said earlier the are not the dog for everyone, but to me all the things that make them the dog they are is what I love about them. If you ever get the chance read some of the Iditarod stories, or even about the serum run you should. People rely on the independent nature of these dogs and their ability to give all they have. Sometimes their life may depend on it. I think knowing the background of any breed makes you understand the behaviour a little better.
  6. I wouldn't own any other breed. I have also seen some very headstrong Labs.
  7. Go Whitey, with a name like that how did they find you in the snow? http://www.adn.com/2010/03/14/1183461/miss...hows-up-in.html
  8. Maybe give people a brief outline of what Mdba Pacers do, might encourage more people to help out.
  9. Danny and Tikaani have a very special bond, if I didn't know better I would call it love. ;) Danny (the cat) was ill one morning, he had a bad tooth, Tikaani kept coming to the bedroom door and barking. (my dogs don't bark) Took him to the vet and Tikaani moped around the house all day, when he came home they cuddled up together, and she washed and mothered him. They are a funny pair.
  10. Has anyone heard more on how this gentleman is going?
  11. No I'm not woried about that. With some raffles for rescue I have just bought books from the newsagents and sold them and then deposited the money.
  12. When is it drawn and are the books stamped?
  13. She is sooo cute. Never argue with an idiot, they will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
  14. Just interested as I had a similar conversation with Mr MP last week. The situation was that the dog ran out of an open door across a front yard that was not fenced and onto the footpath, while we were walking our four dogs last week. I wondered what the laws are (in NSW) regarding dogs in front yards that didn't have fences. Can fido happily sit in the front yard of your property if he/she does not venture out onto common property?
  15. If you know anyone with Siberians that may like to attend, could you please pass this on. The Siberian Husky Club of NSW, will be holding an Information/ Open day on Sunday 18th April. Location: Nurragingy Reserve (Eucalyptus area) Knox Rd Doonside. Starting from 10am we are hoping to cover most things about the Siberian, from basic training to showing. Health and grooming. Agility with a Siberian and of course sledding. Club members will be there to assist with any questions, plus a Bar B Q lunch. Your dog/s are welcome, but must be on lead at all times.
  16. That's not going to happen as they are happy with the puppy, so unless there is a problem with it's health I can't see them doing anything. Just out of interest, ball park figure how much have they saved in $$$$ terms by not microchipping?
  17. Thanks Aziah. I am still pretty peeved at the decision, as most of us probably get when you put the time and effort into trying to educate people. This is their first puppy, bought for the kids and I hope for their sakes all goes well. I still feel the need to growl though.
  18. A friend against all my advice and all the links and literature I could offer has bought a cross Pom/Shih Tzu. Puppy has come home today and I was told by a mutual friend that he is not microchipped. The reason given by the BYB was they were too small for the needle. Pup is now aprox 9 weeks, pretty sure the others have gone to homes. Questions: Would a vet vaccinate puppies that were not microchipped? People that breed tiny dogs, is that for real about being too small? Will my friend have a problem when she goes for the next vaccination (that is if puppy has even had it's first one) or will a vet just microchip no questions asked?
  19. Love the lawyer joke. We normally get the dog washer out to wash the dogs, but decided to do it ourselves as fleas are really bad atm. I never thought eight years ago that I would be sitting in a bath with a Siberian Husky, not once but four times. ETA So as not to give a horrible mental picture, I had swimmers on.
  20. Agree we found a lump on the back of Ricky's neck a while ago. We took him to the vet and he said it's a cyst. Looked at me and said, "would you like me to run a test?" I didn't even have to answer he did a cytology and was back in minutes confirming it is a cyst. Just went through similar with Jatz, benign tumour on the lip, did extra tests for mast cell tumours and they were benign as well. It is a worrying time, when our animals have something wrong, hope it helps to know we are thinking of you.
