I have a friend with a Cavalier diagnosed earlier in the year. She was given 3 months to live. They located a Holistic Vet in SA, and were told annual vaccinations are likely the cause, to stop all medications like this, treat her homeopathically, and given a BARF diet........She has a new lease of life, is jumping out of her skin, and has never looked better, and the regular check ups are all good news .........They are thrilled with this natural therapy approach, and call it a miracle........

Could be a health issue. Things like recurring Tonsillitis will make a dog look fussy , when in fact it has a sore throat & cant eat at that day.
-
I would not bother vaccinating, as his immune system is already compromised. If he had Protech brand vaccine it is only given twice, 3rd shot is not necessary. Apple cider vinegar & Kelp mixed in his food each day will help boost the immune system

Yes sounds like a hot spot, and the time of year to start them too! Diferent things work for different dogs. Listerine mouth wash applied many times a day or Curash Baby powder or. Zinc cream or apple cider vinegar applied ......... It may be a ring worm, but more likely to be a hot spot.

Vet Just Told Me What I Am Feeding Is All Wrong
Cavandra replied to Veanna's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It is alarming that this Vet doesnt know what BARF is, I would be concerned about what else they dont know! If he doesnt know what it is , how can they make comment!!!!! Due to not making any $$$ out of it will be the main concern here. -
Vitamin Supplements To Aid Fertility Rate
Cavandra replied to toydogs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
To help with fertility, the bitch requires an excellent diet in the lead up, I feed Barf, a completely naturaL diet with no preservative foods. If you have Chi's you need to increase your bitches diet in Carbs (eg..oats, brown rice, pasta, ) in the last trimester to prevent hypoglyceamia, carbs also help with the delivery too Vit E, Vit C, Zinc, flax seed oil, Apple cider vinegar, kelp will all help with fertility, and anything that stimulates the Pituitary gland will help no end, as this regulates all the sex hormones. AVOID cod liver oil at all costs in a pregnant bitch, it causes birth defects in the first Trimester!!!!!!!! I supplement with Folic Acid about 3 months before they come in season & feed it all through the pregnancy. This helps prevent neural tube defects. Rasberry Leaf will help with the toning of the uterus, and help with the birth & also stimulate milk supply after whelping. I have a programe here from a Vet that is a show person/breeder themselves. This is for bitches that continually have problems concieving, and I do know it has been effective, you could ask your own Vet about it if you are actually having fertility issues. This was for a 8kg dog Metrogyl (Flagyl)200 tablets , 1/2 tablet once daily, day 10 - 35 Aspirin 100mg tablets 1/4 tablet once daily, day 10 -35 Vitamin K - 1/2 tablet once every THREE days, day 10 to partuition. Valu Plus Vit and Min supplement daily Acidophilus No chicken - only beef. -
Has he been in contact with grevillias or bottle brush type bushes? This will set them off badly, and it is worse this time of year. Fish oil is great, zinc tablets too........

Considering A New Career
Cavandra replied to I love dribbly dogs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wouldnt ever go Franchise, you are never your own boss, I know a few who have bought in, and initially it seems good, for the large outlay, you have to do things as they say, use their products, get paperwork in when they want it, for their commissions etc.......Some even take the bookings for you etc.......Usually the prices are high per job, but you dont earn it all as they take their cut. Alternatively if you bought a ready going concern, you are your own boss, and already have a client base. If you start from scratch it is cheaper, but takes longer to get the clients and start earning a profit. If you do it at all, have you got a car suitable for towing? It is hard work, in scorching heat, battling traffic, silly dogs, nasty dogs, silly people, people that let you down & forget their appt or dont pay, people that want to keep you talking all day that dont understand that time is money etc etc...........It isnt all happy days............... Many people start out with enthusiasm, but not too many last............Usually the ones that last are good at what they do, & are Naturals with dogs.......... -
What is it that you have been feeding? Flatulence is not normal on a reaw diet , however, it may be an adjustment period for her that she will get over, most dogs when switched cold turkey will have loose "motions" sometimes, their system has to detox from all the processed foods in their body........

Cavaliers dont tolerate fleas at all, but you are already giving them TWO products for fleas now.........I use Advantix, I am near the beach in a rampant flea area, and am also a groomer & therefore bringing fleas home every day on the towels etc....yet my dogs never have fleas using Advantix, all the dogs I do all use Advantix now as Frontline stopped working a few years ago. Many Cavaliers can not tolerate grains & cereals either, and to my knowledge Supercoat, as are most supermarket brands full of these.........white rice is also usually the culprit on a itchy Cav along with causing ear infections. You will find your products online alot cheaper than Vets & pet stores, not sure if you already buy this way or not, but it might keep your OH a little happier! www.pricelesspets.com.au www.petproductsontheweb.com.au I would cut out all grains & cereals & add fish oil capsules twice a day (NOT cod liver)

Hydrogen Peroxide will eat all the gunk up, it will froth & when you wipe it off much of the puss etc will come away, if you then applied Betadine frequently it should help alot......I would clean it like this at least 3 times a day though.....

Yes indeed Actually, a very well known dog show identity is still alive as I type, and believe it or not when you go for dinner with him, he orders RAW steak........yes RAW........perhaps the author of this load of twaddle would like to dine with him sometime

Where is it new?????????????? Where I come from kibble and cans are new, we didnt have them 15-20 years ago.... And even if we compare how humas fed the dogs over centuries Id say that kibble is relatively new discovery. Yes KIBBLE is a very new diet, the original kibble came about in war times when they wanted to use up all the biscuit crumbs from the factories, and people were quite poor, so feeding dogs the throw aways made sense at the time, and it has gone on to become a billion dollar business, that has killed more dogs from "microorganisms/bacteria " in the last year, than any raw fed dog that may have died in hundreds of years LOL

Help! Puppy Has A Strange Blister!?
Cavandra replied to Rainey's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Can u push it back through the little hole? Sometimes you can, and it may stay put & not pop back out............some get trapped as the pup grows around the opening...if it is only small, just keep an eye on it, and if it is dramatically getting bigger, or changing colour seek a Vet, but otherwise just to keep him nice you can have it repaired when he is desexed or not bother..... -

Help! Puppy Has A Strange Blister!?
Cavandra replied to Rainey's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would say it is a small umbilical hernia, sometimes a bit of fat comes through the hole , usually when the pup starts to get chubby....keep an eye on it & if it worries you , you can always have it fixed when he is desexed. Does this sound like it is the problem? -

Is it not his "belly button" ????????? -
Ruin the coat for what exactly ? I can understand the "breeder" advising not to clip the dogs coat, but not to wash it is ridiculous........ Goldens have a distinct "odour" , even when they have been washed every week for the show ring, so I can only imagine how bad this dog stinks! What a shame, I presume it is an outdoor dog in this case also, as no one could have a dirty dog indoors

How do they know you feed dogs offal? Or are you saying all offal is banned 4 sale in Tasmania full stop? Surely those people who grew up eating Brains, steak & kidney, tripe, liver & bacon etc are up in arms about not being able ot buy offal
-
I feed mainly chicken, all my meat comes from the Butcher or Bilo. Chicken carcasses(frames), necks, wings, pet mince (ground carcass) Occassionally Turkey necks (Woolworths) Lamb ribs, cant afford any other lamb these days Beef mince, Ox Tails Rarely I feed Pork mince/bones as they are abit more "dodgey" to feed with bacteria. Offal........lamb brains, hearts, livers, kidneys, beef heart, chicken livers/giblets

I am in Victoria...... How do I find out about the heart clinic? Various Breed Clubs hold Clinics throughout the year, Cavalier KCS Club, Golden Retriever Club etc..........They will welcome any other Breeds along to make up numbers usually. They may have stipulations of being a member of DogsVic though I am not sure what happens down there???? You could ring Russell Mittens office at Werribee, and see if he is booked to do any Clinics & then perhpas contact that club to see if you can book, however the clinics are by Auscellation only (steth)..........If he detected anything sinister he would need you to have further testing. So perhaps a one on one consult in his rooms would be better in your case.

My understanding is that Dr. Russell Mitten at Werribee Veterinary Hospital (Melbourne University) is a canine heart specialist. Is that different to a cardiologist? I took my girl to him when I had cause for concern. Russell Mitten does all the Heart Clinics for Cavaliers in Vic, SA & WA...........he is well respected for his experience in the field.
