Wow! Never mind the dog, I couldn't run all those I actually prefer ADO to JDO, so does Kyzer, going to try and enter some more with him next year. And maybe Trixie too though distance is not our strong point
-
7 runs we don't even have that many available to enter Usually just have single trials here - max 4 runs per dog
-
Good to hear Megan, hopefully it was a short term thing! Maybe he was a bit under the weather? I think I've found a good balance for training Kyzer now - he is working well probably 95% of the time at training, I'm still yet to get that transferred to trials though... it's probably more like 50% really but his agility run on the weekend gave me a glimpse of what we are capable of if I can just figure out how to get consistency. Will be interesting to see how things progress from now on though, it is Trixie's first trial tomorrow and the end of me only trialling Kyzer - he is just in one class tomorrow (usually in two, sometimes three). I will be watching with interest over the next few weeks to see if it makes a difference in him, and also me, having two dogs and less subconscious pressure on him and myself. It's also night trial time which we both prefer

Awww the Bully was cute as! Love it. Looking forward to doing this with Trixie next year - got a few moves to perfect / teach though - might need to buy some cones!
-
Oh you're back Ptolomy! No wonder they were so excited! Good luck in the trial tomorrow, hopefully the weather improves. Kathq glad your arm is out of the sling and you can carry on training

I remember reading about it but thought it was more for state teams etc Not sure. Off to have a look ETA Can't find anything about it in the new rules unless I am going blind

Mine do agility and are very active but still need nails done, I do them once a week, cut back as far as possible. Kyzers are small anyway but Trixies are impossible, I have cut them weekly since she was a puppy and they always look long - think it's because her feet are practically bald. ETA I don't use a Dremel, just clippers, but I make sure they are sharp so it's more comfortable for the dog, I like the Gripsoft ones. Both of mine lay in my lap and have it done, they were taught from an early age that it is to be done in a no fuss manner and they lay there still - no faffing about. I wouldn't pay someone else to do it.

Welcome back ST Sorry I don't have that DVD RV Awww poor Louis Hope you can find what's wrong with him?

I do too, that's why I got one. There really isn't any coat maintenance. I don't really think of them as a fluffy breed, they might have thicker coats than a JRT, but it's not long and doesn't shed a ton. When I was looking at them that wasn't the impression I got - this is from the DOL breed profile: But as I say - if it has undercoat and needs combing and brushing it's not wash & wear to me It's all what you are used to really :D Both my Tentie and Mannie have very very thin short single coats. I do love the Schips though and wish there were some around over here.

Yep mine is chaos, and I recently found a forgotten small bag of tuna fudge treats in there that had gone so mouldy it had solidified into one lump It didn't smell or anything, luckily it was sealed

What Do You Do With Your Dogs When You Go Away?
pie replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
My Mum usually looks after my two, she did when we went to Europe for 5 weeks, but in February my whole family and a mob of friends are going to Bali for two weeks so I'd say I will have to put them in kennels for the first time - it's going to be a shock for them! -
I have a clean run tote bag that is full of dog stuff - toys, clickers, treats, backup dried treats, tissues, water bottle and other surprises It's like a Mary Poppins bag
-
Agility trials - SR (on 26/11) closes on 14/11 and Dobe Club (on 10/12) closes on 21/11 Obedience trials - Dobe Club (on 9/12) closes on 21/11 That's all that's left - crazy!
-
DO IT! Are you (or ozjen) entered in any upcoming agility / obedience trials, Mirawee?
-
And that is why I have Trixie in an airline crate Or my treats wouldn't stand a chance I have put treats on the coffee table once then gone into the kitchen for two seconds to get the clicker only to walk back in to an almost gone bowl of treats, she is so shameless
-
I have the opposite with Trixie - she will never ever poo in public... never has in all her time at K9 either. Wonder what will happen if we go to Albany overnight
-
Wow that's a crazy move if they stop making the compact - it must be the highest or second highest selling model! If you are talking about the Market Gazebo listed in the catalogue - I have this one as well as a Compact. It is different, same coverage area but the frame is not as strong and it is silver painted, and it doesn't fold up as small (the legs collapse into two instead of three like the compact) if you can definitely get the Compact instead. I recently picked up a Compact for $99 (very unusual) but I quite often see threads on here about them being on special for $129 - $139. The compact solid walls retail for $39.90 for each side, 3m gazebo is $44.90 per side.

A Manchester would suit your grooming requirements certainly, they really only need nails clipped weekly/fortnightly and the occasional ear clean (I do it at bath time) but although they are said to be one of the 'non sparring' terriers they generally don't care much for strangers, be they dogs or people, they are certainly not a 'loves everything' type of dog, which takes some getting used to. They are a typical terrier in that they have a feisty streak. They don't like new overbearing people or dogs, which isn't really suitable if you'll have children coming over. Some of them are more tolerant/less wary than others but although they have 100% devotion and limitless love for their family, they aren't friendly to strangers. Their love has to be earned over time I think they would be too small - they are about 9-14 kg and I think one might get hurt in rough play. They have a very very short coat and really feel the cold and don't like to be outside away from their people. They can be good at agility though (mine loves it). They are quite energetic (mine has more energy than a friends show Kelpie and runs rings around my Tenterfield) mine gets agility training twice a week and walks or obedience/general training every day and still bounces all over the place. They have a strong instinct to hunt anything that moves. ETA Sorry that all sounds negative, but they are a very unique breed I think there are other breeds on your list that will suit though, sounds like a great situation for a lot of dogs :D The right boxer or Pointer perhaps?
-
Yep she probably will be just like that - can't picture Em ever not being rearing to go! Trixie is more like that - she's rarely not keen - it's so much easier But less challenging - I like having two very different dogs (most of the time!) So long as I don't break her too Ahhh so much learning.
-
That gives me hope TSD! I have made it my mission to get both dogs find to see value in tugging with whatever I offer - Trixie got it quickly, I could tug with her with the food bowl between us after a week with anything, a sock, a toy - Kyzer though - WOW he thought I was torturing him, he would sit and look at his food bowl and not engage with me at all - we'd move to another room, he'd look at the doorway, the more I tried to get him to tug the more he would try to avoid me - he ran and hid under the bed at one point... I had to change tactics and got the clicker out and clicked him for looking, then chasing, then biting - that will do get your dinner! Turns out that was the breakthrough we needed and he is getting the idea, he even tugged with me on Thursday at training while I had treats in my pocket. I've been finding it very fascinating really!
-
My dog doesn't tug (something we are working on now - tugging for dinner, he is improving heaps but yet to move it to training properly) but some things that keep him enthusiastic are: Two food game - he loves to chase the food and come tearing back for more Stopping before he is over it - short bursts of training then back in the crate - I keep a crate nearby at training Doing tricks that have a very strong reward history, for him the big one is 'roll over' It's always a work in progress though
