  1. Hey Melbourne obedience people Im just looking for any info on obedience trials in Werribee or within an 2 hours of the area as I dont know Vic at all Are any Dolers trialing in the area, as im considering going on a road trip with my dogs next year & will enter a trial if it fits in with our holiday
  2. Hey Ptolomy- Looks like you guys did have it harder than the novice/ccd dogs as they replaced the carpet squares for us after a complaint last year! Good thing they did as Asia has a beagle nose always on the ground :D Which novice dog did you see the clip of? Pm me if you want as I know of most of the novice competiters? The judge did have the novice dogs recall to the wall where the ccd dogs recall was to the crowd?? I had to ask why as no one, else even the judge noticed So glad it didnt affect us though  Heather :p
  3. Everyone for the replies Not the best result but we were really trying for just a 75/ 100! We did a lot better than the minimum pass Thanks to the Wa judge She was lovely Some Dolers know, but I had put 4 years ,before Asia, into obedience training my boy Ruger He shyed away from the judge & instructors on stand for exam for no known reason? but was great with the other exercises! Just when we were finally getting somewhere with him! We tried another club for other ideas! First week the new instructor slapped him in the face(really hard) for sniffing food for food refusal (an exercise we both had not done before) which ruined him for life After training my dogs for over 18 years this is my first pass in obedience Thats why its huge to us Im not looking for any sympathy , but It has been a long hard road, I have copped it all, DA, shy dog, dog Pts after being hit by a car, cancer, pyometra etc My girl has really lifted me after all the years so im hoping we have a title (any title obedience/agilty) before the end of the year! Julie the pei breeder in Vic has also has given me a challenge as the only pei in oz at the moment with an obedience/ agility title, watch out Julie Im working on it
  4. Sounds like Jazz had fun at the show Looks like I have you to thank for our 3rd place in CCD obedience at the Royal Billand :p I was going to pull my Pei Asia out of the comp. but after reading this thread I changed my mind, thought if an open dog could embarrass you, what do they expect from a CCD dog ;) We passed with a 84/100 so it was great for a pei Hope you did well in agility
  5. Not a huge brag to some, but its huge to us As Shar pei are very smart but just as stubborn ;) The hard work payed off Asia got a 3rd place in her first trial at the Royal Adelaide show :p CCD 84/100 Heel on lead 19 stand for exam 10 recall 15 sit stay 20 drop stay 20 TOTAL 84
  6. They sound like they need a loving temp home with chi rescue, or a chi breeder to make them better! Im sure there would be one in Vic ??Someone who cares about this breed & knows this breed enough to make them better! Then you can get the pei foster rescue girl that you have put into boarding kennels( when the chis came) out, to spend the time with her that she needs to make her a better pet for her new forever home
  7. Huge congrats for getting your CCD title :p :p Im yet to get there but have thrown us straight in the deep end, entering my Shar pei in her First trial at the Adelaide royal I love to see the more uncommon breeds compete in obedience & agility as it shows people that every breed can be trained with patience & persistance :D Rhap- The Shar pei in melb competing in agility are owner by Julie a Pei breeder from melbourne! Thumbs up to her for doing great things for pei proving that our breed are capable of doing so well!
  8. Great video of our meet BB & Jules , Thanks again for putting it all together!
  9. Thanks Disorder, gotta agree with you we definately have the some of the best dogs on DOL Just read a list of dogs you posted you want to own in your lifetime & shar pei was there so i hope you like my pei :D
  10. Loved the video Jules & BB! Thanks for putting it all together, great job!
  11. Thanks Iltby & Zelahi both siggys look great cant decide which one so will change it every few weeks so i can use both! THANK YOU!!
  12. Hi guys, can some one please make a signature for me too!my dogs names are Asia, Ruger& Phooey! THANK YOU!
  13. I feed my 3 on Pro Plan sensitive, the no 1 ingredient is salmon. doesnt smell the best, very fishy but the dogs love it more than any other food
  14. thanks pippi for letting me know about this before it was too late! just read up on dogs eating sultanas, have never heard that they were toxic for dogs! will have to find something else for training!
  15. i train Asia with sultanas, shes loves them not messy or smelly & the littles boxes fit in your pocket!
  16. i agree with everyone else, doesnt make sense why the vet would take a urine sample 3 weeks later. im sure if you had bleeding from your anal passage & your doc said come back in 3 weeks you would find this unacceptable & get a 2nd opinion ASAP from another doc! any animal of mine would have been to the vet asap while there was blood showing to get it fully checked out!
  17. thats for the replys guys! any info on the pei in melb would be great! any photos of the whippet in the ring, and any other breeds would be good to see, will post photos of asia at training this sunday! currently trialling my rotty ruger & he has a staffy friend that competes with him ,there are quite a few at trials near us! dont see many different breeds out at trials love to watch all breeds but something different if it is a rarer breed! my shar pei is doing well but she is having trouble at night with shadows prob due to her entropion surgery, she can be quite jumpy. if it means only day trials thats cool with me, i think she still has it! please keep me updated with rarer breeds in the ring!thanks!
  18. goodluck with your first trial! we also entered our first trial this year in ccd my boy ruger the rotty did everything great , his stays are always perfect:( but wouldnt stand for exam! shied away from judge twice) was a great learning experience for me though we know what to work on now! have you got anyone to video you in the ring as watching it back helps to see where you can improve or take photos as id love to see some! Goodluck on sunday & try not to stress out too much!
  19. hi! i was told by my instructor that my rotty had to lose some weight asap as he is an althlete competing now & hes at a huge risk of injury!he was slow & lagging behind & thought it was just him! i didnt notice he was overweight but put him a diet & cut back on treats & he went from 55kg to 45kg in no time! now he has so much more energy & is keen to train not lazy at all! have seem quite a few o/w dogs but our instructors are great at talking to these owners & giving great advice!
  20. Hi! just wondering if anyone is currently obedience training/trialling shar pei or has done so?? i m currently training my shar pei girl & she hopefully will be ready next year for trialling! have seen pei compete in agility but not obedience. also would like to know of any breed probs you may have had! please PM me if you know of any peis entered as i would be keen to come & watch! will travel to most states to watch how the peis go! would also love to know of any breeds that arent known for obedience & how they have done in trials! titles etc!( have tried the shar pei thread with no luck so far, we cant be the only ones obedience training )
  21. hi rottdog, welcome to DOL! i also had the same prob with my male rotty at obedience training when he was about the same age as your boy.i was told by instructors to give him a firm NO!! as i turned him in the other direction & walk away to distract him from the other dog. also be aware when he starts eye balling the other dog & turn him away to break this asap! did take us a few months to get close to other males but he did slowly improve with age. he is now 3.5 & great with most male dogs only 2 that he doesnt like & probably never will! i gave up training my first rotty boy for this reason but was determined to persist with ruger, it payed off & now he is doing so well & has started trialling this year. just wondering if your boy is desexed as my boy was? think if he isnt desexed this may he harder to fix! also ask as many instructors what they think too they are a great help & all have different advice, might give you a different idea that may help! i am also small really had to let ruger know from the start i am the boss! good luck & keep us updated as to how hes going!
