Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
hortfurball replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Afternoon Jed and all, have just come from the Chapel, where 112 candles were still burning brightly and added one more... I notice Goldchow has popped into the waiting room...any news on Jed's little furry family Goldchow? Or piccies? (she asks hopefully ) ETA: Rats! Too slow, she's gone. Jed, hope this week brings more gentle healing as you bathe in the glow of the many candles kept constantly lit by your little army of supporters, and in the love of those close ro you (I was going to correct that typo, but think I'll let my inner Scooby loose for once ) Jed, I hope they're feeding you as well in hospital as we are being fed in the waiting room! -

Why does your Lithuanian goat herding retriever have an aussie accent? Shouldn't it be more like "I luff you all" Hi Jed, so glad to hear you've improved so much. Like everyone else, am waiting patiently for your first appearance in the waiting room (when you're ready of course) Be well. Off to light my candle... -
A Sight That Gladdened My Heart
hortfurball replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have a regular client at Dad's salon who brings her guide dog in with her. Lucy (the dog) is adorable, and loves her tummy rubs when she's 'off duty'. The owner told us a funny story about how once Lucy sulked because she had forgotten to take her treats with her, so when they got to their destination Lucy had the grumps when she didn't get her treat. I don't know whether that is usual practice or whether Lucy is a bit spoiled... Lucy is semi retired now because she's ten. Apparently guide dogs normally only work until they are 8 and Lucy worked right up to about two months ago so she did really well. They were a bit worried about how she'd take to her replacement but to their surprise, Lucy seemed relieved to hand the job over. Poor girl must have been getting tired. Did you all know that once they're retired, they lose all guide dog privileges? -

Happy-sad-happy tears! Thanks for the update Toohey, so glad to hear she's well enough to receive visitors, hence my tears...we knew she was improving but really had no idea on her status. Well enough to receive visitors is a lot further along than I'd realised. You and me both, considering how I just reacted to Toohey's update. -

Group *dol* has 298 candles from 6 countries Just back from lighting a new candle...keep improving Jed. Still soup left? Cool, that's dinner sorted... :D -
Poor little things. That would have been so frightening and distressing for them. Poor little eighth one, hope it is found alive before it's too late. Some people are such idiots, they just see $$$ and don't think about the special care required or the fact that these are living beings that can suffer. They'd be near impossible to move on the black market anyway I would have thought, it's not like you can suddenly turn up with a pet pygmy marmoset when all of Australia knows there were some just stolen, these imbeciles just didn't think it through, and the poor monkeys have to suffer for their stupidity and greed. I'm just so glad that seven have been returned and hope they bounce back to full health.

Oh that made me laugh! Could just picture it. Hi Jed, just lit another candle to let you know I'm thinking of you and sending you strength. Hi everyone else, made a HUGE pot of minestrone soup for dinner so lunch is sorted for the waiting room occupants...crusty bread rolls (a selection of white and wholemeal) are in the sealed dog-proof, cat proof container next to the pot, so help yourselves. -

Hi Jed, still thinking of you and wishing you well. Just popping in on my way to light another candle... oh dear, spoilt for choice, lasagne or beef burgundy...perhaps a little of both, finished off with one (or three) of those scrumptious looking cupcakes... -

Thanks for the update Toohey, that really is great to hear - slowly but surely is a good way to go. ;) A small smile just swept across my dial Me too. Always cheering to hear of even the smallest improvement in her condition! Thank you Toohey for your efforts in keeping us informed...much appreciated. Love to you, Jed and her family. Anna, beautiful sentiments. *helps self to some apple crumble and ice cream (thanks Georgie-Boy) and squeezes self between a couple of furry bodies on one of the couches. "Don't grumble at me, you're lucky you're ON the couch, now wriggle over." * -

Sigh...so right. We are all waiting hopefully for good news on the recovery front for Jed but the event that brought us here and united us all in our vigil is not forgotten, nor the little souls lost that night. ;) Off to light another candle... -

Hi Jed, Hi fellow waiting room occupants. Candle lit and just popping in to say hi, see if there are any updates and help myself to some leftover curry from lunch that seems to have miraculously stayed warm (gotta love the magic of the virtual waiting room!) Thanks for the lump in my throat, blacklab. That was beautiful. Ditto. Oh no, the book made me cry as a kid, I don't think I could watch a movie version. Yep, there's a movie, but Call of the Wild doesn't exactly have a happy ending either.... Must Love Dogs has a cute newfie in it...and a happy ending. -

Sorry MissMolly, I didn't mean to upset anyone... Just beautiful Mona. Lovely ditty from Cockerlover too. Couldn't have said it any better...Huge thanks to you Toohey, we are grateful for any news of Jed's health...everything else is her own business. Just glad to hear of any improvement and delighted to hear she's well enough to communicate somewhat. Tyra, I'm not religious either but I've always loved that creation verse. Off to light another candle... -

Another candle lit for Jed. I'm guessing poor Souff has yet to get to the page that made us all bawl. ;) Hugs to you Souff, you'll need them. And for everybody else who might need one... Same here...seeing a candle makes me think of Jed, lighting the stove reminds me of what happened, walking past the computer makes me think of Jed (and wonder if there are any updates). Housemate has a cavalier x, so I think of Jed and her babies whenever I see her little dog. As if that's not enough to remind me, my best friend works for FESA (Fire and Emergency Services) in the 000 call centre. Luckily for him, so do I. Come and lean here, Dennys dog. I'm so glad there are no calories in the waiting room as I can't resist croissants, cinnamon doughnuts or scones with strawberry jam and cream... *tries not to drip any jam on nice white maremma coat* -

Toohey, thank you so much for keeping us all updated, whether the news is positive or not so positive, we really appreciate it. As others have said, we're here for the long haul, and will wait as long as it takes. Another candle lit. I'd love to play jacks but I've completely forgotten how... *grabs a comfy spot on one of the couches instead* -
I'm good for a square or two, maybe more depending on the time we have to do it.

Woohoo! Great news! I nearly choked on my pavlova (which was yummy thanks Justice) due to a sudden lump in my throat. Just as well I brought another box of tissues... *runs around waiting room hugging anyone still here and still awake* Thanks so much Toohey and everyone else for keeping us updated and posting photos of Jed's furry crew. Jed, you have never been far from our thoughts, so many people sending you love and strength, I hope we have been some comfort and support to your family and friends during this past week and a bit, and I hope you can gain some comfort and support also from your DOL friends, to help you recover and help you cope with your losses. Gentle hugs. Group *dol* has 236 candles from 5 countries -

*Pops into the waiting room to find out if there are any updates* Fantastic news - we've been waiting for that all important word 'improvement'. Candle lit, tray of fresh baked muesli slice left next to the flowers on the coffee table for those waiting, quick pats for the furries and back to work, but will drop in again later... BTW, the 1996 Family Circle nearly had me in stitches... -

May I just mention here that there is at least one bank where, if you're an old-fashioned style person like myself and don't do internet banking, you cannot use letters of the alphabet as a reference. (Eg. Banking to an account via Westpac, you can only use a combination of 4 numerics.) But then I guess an email to MDBA letting them know of your deposit and the reference number combo you used, and date of deposit, would get you around that. For the REALLY old fashioned people like me, you can walk into a branch of the Commonwealth and make your deposit over the counter and they will put whatever reference you like. Thanks for the updates Toohey, sorry to hear there have been setbacks, glad to hear that one of her cats has been found unhurt. Have added my candle, and will keep it lit. Keep fighting Jed, we haven't stopped thinking about you and wishing you strength. -
Just wanted to add my best wishes for Tyson's recovery. I hope he doesn't have to lose his leg.

Hello I Am Don Burke, Yeah Right!
hortfurball replied to Wazzat Xolo's topic in General Dog Discussion
;) :D Your forgot Xoloitzdoodle mispronounced as show-u-its-doodle...oh dear Ridiculous statement. My friend had two big male Iws, and three bitch lurchers, and when she told me how fast they could run, I laughed and said no way. I took her offer up and ran across her paddock. On prior agreement, she counted to 20 and then let them go with the command "go go go!" which she used to get them to flush rabbits from the grass. I was at about the quarter point when I turned around to shout "Haha! Told you!", when roughly 300 kilos of fur and bone hit me. I went over backwards, they landed on me, licked my face, stepped on my windpipe, clawed my legs up and down, left a bruise across my face from a tail swipe and also pierced my left earlobe. Really, one of their claws got pushed halfway through my earlobe. I also lost one of my gumboots, and to this day have no idea where it went. I have to say, limping back to the house while five dogs bounced around me and on me going "Oh,boy! What a great game! Keep running!" was one of the better experiences of my life. I highly recommend everyone try it at least once. :p ;) Loved the Koala tackle too! ;) I can't believe we've got to this many pages and nobody has mentioned excessive alcohol consumption...friend of mine (whose opinion is also that the Burke is a complete tosser) said you could smell him coming a mile away, and that sometimes he was barely sober enough to film the show (allegedly) Hoffpig, being a good gardener doesn't automatically make you likable as a person. My friend who thinks he's a drunk and a tosser still bought his book on indigenous gardening. I also want the book. Some people should just stick to what they know and not suffer from delusions of grandeur. -
I'm guessing this is the same dog whose photo you posted ages ago curled in a ball in the garden bed shivering with cold instead of lying on his bed outside? He's a worry.
