  1. There are a number of videos on YouTube, of small dogs "protecting their mummies or daddies". The little dogs behave in highly aggressive fashion, trying their best to bite the approaching camera person. Sometimes the camera person is the owner, everyone's laughing at the little dog who looks terrified. Growling, snapping, something even frothing at the mouth a little. Am I the only one who doesn't find this at all amusing? I see the same behaviour when I am out with my dogs. Working hard with my partners GSD Rogue, who has dog aggression issues that come from fear, and a little dog charges us. Thankfully we're on the outside of a fence and I was able to make it a positive experience. The owners response? "Oh he thinks hes a big dog, ha ha". No, this isn't funny. Your dog is a dog, no matter the size, and both they and everyone else has the right for you to treat them that way! "She just loves her mommy. And she's 2 pounds for Christ sake. Get a sense of humor dude" "Ummmm love her!!! She does the same thing my Rocky does. They love their mommies!!!" Would it be so funny, if my 36 kilo GSD defends himself against a little dog, and kills it with one small snap? Would it be funny, if that little dog bites a child, instilling a life long fear of dogs? Yes, a small dog biting you can be just as scary, doesn't matter how small they are. Is it funny, that the dog is probably terrified. Living in a constant state of fear and anxiety? I just don't get it, I really don't. /Rant
  2. Been taking photos every day, here are some of my favourites :) Im about a month behind with editing though
  3. I would love to see a video! not sure about my next video, any ideas :D? Spin is a nice simple trick, high five + high ten as well, so they're on my list :)
  4. Good question! I don't personally think it matters that much, one way or the other. You could do my entire training program without the word stay, and it will reach the same outcome 100%! But, the average owner wants a word to say, and it can also be very useful for your dog to know what the word stay means so you can apply it to other commands. A good is example is when I'm doing heelwork with my GSD Roscoe, he has to be told stay when I'm going to walk off and I don't want him heeling alongside. Yet during the average day, I don't bother using the word because a position is meant to be stayed in until released anyway. So, I think its more useful than not. Hope that makes sense
  5. My mums said it looks like hes been dead for days, all paws in the air.
  6. A few of you might remember the videos I made a while ago (like 2 years? :p) I wanted to just make some really basic videos that anyone could use :)! Plus Riddick is super cute <3 Edit: Adding this on so I don't make a new post and spam everyone with my silly videos ,I have another video here. How to train Stay Third video on how to train a dog to spin is on the second page :)!
  7. I just want to address this comment. Have you used a E-collar? Held one as it was switched up and down between the 100+ different levels? I can understand your reaction. A shock collar that electrocutes a dog!??? How Awful! But what seems to me missed out, is the levels of power that can be used. They generally have over 100 levels of stimulation (the collar I own has up to 127 I believe). Yes, they can be painful (As can any harness, halti or collar if used incorrectly), but on a low level, you can either not even feel it, or feel a slightly tickling or tingling. A slight tingling on the neck, maybe a little itchy. Easily trained so that the dog will associate it with the owner. Allowing a deaf dog to have more freedom off leash! Sounds pretty great to me :)
  8. I would speak to a vet, maybe look at placing him on a fully raw diet with other supplements? My GSD would eat about 3 full bowls of biscuits without putting on any weight but on a proper raw diet he is going great. Some dogs just work differently. My partners GSD is currently in between diets, looking for the right mix of meats to help her to gain weight. Ruling out health issues, I would also speak to a behaviouralist. It was a behaviour that was probably rewarding, fun destruction and also tasty. Now all that practice has made it much more permanent. Hes been practising the behaviour long enough that you'll need some proper training to get rid of it. Till then, I would be crating him or having him on a tie up at all times so he doesn't have the chance to eat anything when your back it turned. Management will only get you so far though, speak to a vet and then possible a trainer ASAP. Wait for the day he grabs something life threatening

  11. Hey guys, I've made a few posts about photography and now its time for another one! :) I take photos on the side of my real job for fun, and Im looking to expand my portfolio a bit and what better way than rescue :D? So if anyone in or around Sydney has fosters that they would like photographed, I'm available on weekends to come along and photograph them :) Will provide all images with watermarks for free. I've done a fair bit of work with AWL so you can see those photos on my website or my facebook page if you want some reference :) Send me a message and let me know! www.jenmartinphotography.com http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jen-Martin-Photography/290205204328728
  12. I'll post my giant catch up soon! Been taking too many photos!
  13. I watched this months ago and can't bring myself to watch it again. The idea that anybody thinks that is dog training is just disgusting. The dogs are on prong collars if I remember correctly Horrible use of that tool, and just a horrible way to treat dogs in general. Dog panics, hits prong collar, panics harder, hits prong collar harder... just horrifying. How could you put your dog through that? How could you watch that? Even before they set off the firecracks, the dogs are all unhappy/stressed. They're all "powerful" driven breeds too, malinois and GSDs. There are OTHER WAYS to train these breeds people ! Have a cute video of my working line GSD and kitten to cleanse your soul of that horrible video. for anyone interested, the ""trainer""" is Warren Diffey, of Team Red K9.
  14. Can anyone recommend a meat supplier who delivers, (or is local for pick up?) around the northern beaches/chatswood area? I have found a few online, but I would love some recommendations :) So I can judge pricing/quality better!

  18. Lisa is a good friend of mine, and is great to order from :) I ordered some flea treatments just last week, they arrived within a few days and she wasn't even mad when I forgot to make a payment till the next day :D She's helped me out various times, knows her stuff and I would recommend her to anyone. Despite the fact she is a purely positive trainer, and I am not, she is the ONLY PP trainer I can have interesting discussions with, without it degrading into attacks. What you have stated is not correct and I would recommend you delete it. If you have issues with her, then address her directly rather than posting publicly on a large online forum. And just for the record, for anyone reading this, polite paws has responded to every email and offered a refund more than once. Why HA is saying this isn't the case is beyond me? Especially considering that Polite Paws has provided HA with below price items previously, due to rescue work that she does..
