  1. Glad nothing came of the complaint ... A few years ago there was a complaint against the care of the dogs that worked for the security company that my brother worked for at the time. Because the "company" didn't own any dogs ... they then got a list of the employees and their addressed and visited. I was home and my brother was asleep ... they insisted on going out in the backyard and inspecting the yard even though I told them I had to lock up the dog first. They tried to push past me to go out into the back yard - thankfully the dog growling at them (because they were touching me) which was enough to stop them long enough that I was able to slip past them and grab the dog. I then locked him in the garage while they did an "inspection" of the yard. I don't know what they were looking for but they were looking under bushes and around the plants etc - I thought they might have been looking for dog poo or something - thankfully I had just done the poo patrol about 10 minutes before they had arrived. The water tubs (concrete) that I had scrubbed clean that morning had some dirt in the bottom which they were not happy about - they didn't care that the dog stands in his water bowl while he is drinking so of course there is going to be some dirt in the bottom. They then wanted to see the dog - so I had to muzzle him and bring him out and walk him around in front of them ... the dog didn't like them one bit and never took his eyes off them and he growled everytime that made the slightest movement near us. They didn't give me any explaination ... just making notes in their notebook as the went. Still don't know what the complaint was and what they were looking for. Never heard anything further.
  2. I am so excited .... There is a new pet food store on Brisbane southside which specialise in Canine Country BARF, Bones / Raw Diet, Organic Chicken Products and fresh roo meat. They are located: Southside Pet Food, 908 Beaudesert Road, Coopers Plains (3277 1026) Opening hours are: Tuesday to Friday - 9am to 5pm; Saturday 8:30am to 12:30pm and Closed on Mondays. Their prices are on a par to Lotsa Pet Foods that was at Woodridge ...
  3. I suspect the "Yes" voters are doing the same as some of the "No" voters ... there was just too many "Yes" votes happening in a short space of time for be normal voting ...
  4. It is scary how fast the "yes" votes are coming in ...
  5. Agree with putting her on a lead to toilet - take her to where you want her to toilet and be BORING. Ignore her until she toilets and then make big fuss telling her what a good girl she is - treat / reward big time. I used the tell my boys "Good Toilet" when they were learning because I used "Go Toilet" for when I wanted them to toilet - even now if they go I still tell them "Good Toilet". My boys learnt the faster they toileted then the faster they got to play and have fun. I also had the rule that free roaming pups in the house was a privilage and not a right. If the pup can't be watched closely then they are in the crate or outside in the yard. Inside they were allowed out under close supervision or on the end of a light lead attached to me. When they could inside and not have "accidents" then they were allowed more freedom in the house.
  6. I have ordered 3 from the website ... I got two of the 6" for the front doors and the 18" for the back of the hatchback ... can't wait for them to turn up so I can see how they go. I wasn't really sure what size to go for with the front doors as I didn't want the gap too be too big otherwise the doors can be unlocked. I generally don't leave the dogs in the car but it will be useful if I have them in the car and want to do a stop off at a shopping centre (undercover parking in cool weather only) for a quick pick-up.
  7. I don't know if it is illegal ... but RSPCA are campaigning to educate people about leaving dog in cars ...
  8. I found this in the Vic DPI site ... Seems to indicate you can leave the dog in the car as long as you consider ventilation / water / heat ...
  9. I find Chicken / Pumpkin work much better for us then chicken / rice ... I serve it slightly warm and the boys absolutely love it. I also add some Inner Health Plus to it as well - only because that is what I use so I buy a bottle from time to time and we all share When we got our youngest he had diarrhoea for the first couple of weeks due to stress / change in diet etc. We found he didn’t tolerate the dry foods and so we fed him raw removing grains etc from his diet – and he was great. It was only later that he started turning his nose up at raw that I started looking for another dry food (and for convenience). We now feed Canidae PureSea (Salmon Grain Free) and raw (mainly chicken, turkey, fish and lamb) he is doing great … but I think beef is something else we may need to stay away from. Not sure yet if it is all beef or just beef marrow/brisket bones.
  10. I have been looking at possible getting a ventlock so I can leave the hatchback up if I need to step away from the car for a few minutes when I had the dogs in the car ... has anyone used them? Leerburg has them but unfortunately the website keeps rejecting the cheaper postage methods and I am not paying $80+ for postage ... Is there anywhere in Australia that sells them or something similar?
  11. I am feeding the PureSea (was Salmon Grain Free) ... the boys absolutely love it and are doing very well on it. My boys go crazy over it ... never seen them this excited about dry food before ...
  12. How do you crush them? Bag them up and then put the a couple of bags between two cutting board and then step on them :D
  13. I usually shove one (or two) frame/s inside the other and then crush it. Gets more in the freezer and the boys get one lump instead of two ....
  14. I know when our rottie started getting towards the end I looked into our options and I decided I wanted a cremation (with the view of sprinkling his ashes). We had buried previous dogs but I couldn't imagine burying him (and I was worried the other dog would dig him up if I buried him in the yard). Eventually when the time came (thankfully 3 to 4 years later) I was able to ring the funeral place after I made the vet appointment and they collected him from home - it all went smoothly. It was a last minute decision but we decided to get a display case and this now sits in our lounge room - rather then spreading the ashes. I do have the little voice in my head that keeps asking if I can be sure they are his ashes ... but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter as he is firmly in my heart.
  15. My older boy hated having his ears cleaned too. So we started using two people ... one to touch his ears while the other clicked and rewarded. Now we can clean his ears without having to hold him down & the neighbours wondering who is being murdered.
  16. My dogs do that ... they were getting two breakfast meals as initially I was feeding the boys and then my brother started feeding them thinking I had forgotten. It was about 2 weeks later I noticed a food wrapper in the bin and asked if he had fed them. We then realised for about 2 weeks the boys had been getting double feeds - they had been playing us.
  17. You need to see a vet to get the infection under control ... and then regular cleaning to maintain the ears so it doesn't re-occur. If the ears are hairy then maybe plucking them might help to allow better air flow (but it might also allow more dirty to enter) ... someone else might be able to answer that as I have never plucked ear hair before.
  18. No ... because there is already laws and regulations in place and currently they are not following up or enforcing the existing rules. No point bringing in new regulations/laws as it is always the people who do the right thing that will follow them and they are already doing the right thing. I have always thought a person should be made to apply for a license and pass an exam before having a child or a pet ...
  19. Some of the bigger bones such as brisket bones or marrow bones (cut long ways down the middle) should be ok - maybe give him one when you are around so you can see how he handles it. Lamb necks and Roo tails are some others that I give my boys. Maybe once puppy has finished his needles then OH can take him for a walk and play with him before going to work so he is tired and happy to sleep
  20. That is a very wondeful outcome for you both.
  21. Can you leave a radio on with talking more so then music ... not too loud but enough for some background noise. A big tasty bone is also be a good option.
  22. This discussion has the dog restraint requirements for various different states. This Link
  23. I haven't heard anything yet ... are we going to be told some time soon if we have a place or not?
