  2. Lots of mental stimulation / training / exercise should help ... but some dogs are just destructive for the fun of it ... my two can be completely exhausted having spent the whole day hiking/swimming/training/working but then left alone for 2 hours and you come home to a disaster area. We lost two heavy duty metal beds last night ... dog thought it was fun until this morning they couldn't work out where to eat their breakfast as there was no beds to eat off It is a good thing I love my boys ... otherwise they would make nice rugs ;)
  3. Oh dear ... hopefully the vet will soon find the cause
  4. Paraderm Plus Cream is fantastic - it is an Antiseptic, Anaesthetic and Anti-inflammatory soothing cream. Can be used for cuts, bites, stings, itches, sunburn and minor burns ... I use it on all my doggy bites (accidental contact when playing).
  5. Some obstructions may not show on xrays - depends on what it is ...fingers crossed he is ok in the morning
  6. I have mozzie coil burners hanging all round our verandah ... worked out they were breeding in the self watering pots. Put some tape over the hole and no more mozzies (filling with sand also works).
  7. I too would take him off to the vet. At that age they can go downhill so fast - and usually late at night or when the vet is closed. Tummy bugs are going around - our older boy had one not too long ago - we had it coming from both ends. Once vet has given the all clear chicken/pumkin will help with any soft or runny poos and a probiotic will help get the tummy back on track. Hopefully it isn't too serious.
  8. I don't believe it is a case of "not allowing" the information to be released but there is a proper process for requesting the information - which is why there is the "Right to Information" legislation. Demanding and threatening lawsuits doesn't bypass the process. It is a rather straight forward application to request the information - and unless there is legal reason for the information to be surpressed - then normally the information is provided.
  9. My parents had a rat issue some time ago on their property ... the neighbours house burnt down so the local rat population was suddenly homeless. The pest guy came out and put some baits in the roof and advised my parents to remove all water dishes / containers around the house. The way rat poisons work (or so I have been told by the pest guy) is that once the rat eats the bait they then travel looking for water ... apparently this is so the rat doesn't curl up and die in the roof of the house.
  10. We used to use a public hydrobath about 2 dogs ago ... the particular place went from being DIY to employee only - at this stage we had to stop using them because our dog didn't tolerate anyone else touching them. After being unable to find another suitable place we went out and brought our own hydrobath. Since then I think we have use one less then half a dozen times ... our older boy picked up something like doggy tinea after using one. I dislike the idea of unknown dogs using them and then not being cleaned after each dog. We even clean our hydrobath everytime we wash our own dogs

    Puppy Runs Off

While your pup may be friendly ... he may run up to a not too friendly dog and get bitten or he could run to another dog across a road and get hit by a vehicle. "Really Reliable Recall" ... is definitely worth looking at.
  12. Tilly is that greek yoghurt? Can you give dogs normal yoghurt like vanilla, strawberry etc The fruit yoghurts usually have a lot of sugar in them so it would be an occassional item rather then regular. On a weekly basis I usually make a litre of EasiYo natural yoghurt - otherwise any cultured/natural set should be fine. I have often used Pauls Natural and Bornhoffen until I found it was cheaper to make my own.
  13. Dog have owners ... cats have SLAVES ...
  14. I give my boys Inner Health Plus from time to time - I usually buy a bottle and we all share until they are gone. The dose they get in one capsule each - otherwise they get yoghurt almost daily. In summer I freeze yoghurt (and sardines) in little dishes and they get yummy frozen yoghurt treats ...
  15. My older boy had red welts / rash on his rummy not long after we got him ... it was some sort of allergy (according to the vet) but we didn't find out what caused it. I was told to try Omega 3/6 and it quickly cleared up. Good luck at find the cause
  16. It is the age ... my boy did the same thing when he hit 5/6 months. I had to be really strict with my boy and make him work for every bit of attention and "reward" he got. This is a good article to read - NILIF - Nothing in Life is Free
  17. I have used both ... and our boy still got ticks - even under the collar. Have gone off the collars and spot-ons and am now using Permoxin. Haven't had a tick since we started using it ...
  18. I have been bitten by "friendly" dogs on numerous occasions ... We used to have a woman in our area with her two "friendly" small dogs walked off~leash in a local on~leash park. When I had her dogs run at my dog the day after he had been attacked by another dog - she was told in no uncertain terms to keep them on a leash and under control or they would be reported as dangerous. Never saw her again after that ...
  19. It could be a tummy bug picked up from the vets? ... our oldest recently had projectile vomiting and the runs. He seemed fine in himself and was eating normally but then all of the sudden it would happen. I took him to the vets (because I am a worrier) and he was given some injections and was fine. My youngest got a bit of a temperature, the runs, vomitting, stiff joints and it looked like his feet hurt when he walked when he had a reaction to his second injection - I panicked because he was such a little thing. Vet said it wasn't a reaction but a tummy bug. He got a needle for the vomitting, antiobiotics, and rested and he quickly recovered - he lost 1.3 kg in 3 days.
  20. I have only ever had entire males living together - while they do get along well most of the time we have had some dis-agreements - mainly with the changing of the "alpha" dog role. Lot depends on the individual dogs and their temperament.
  21. I brought a rubber brush and it was fantastic with getting hair and dirt out of the carpet ... it is similar to a zoom groom but has very fine "teeth".
  22. New property interstate with a couple of acres (ok about 30+ acres) and be fully fenced so the dogs have lots of space to run around and be safe. Other then that - they don't require material items just plenty of good food and the occassional new squeaky toy or ball.
  23. I haven't used boarding kennels ... so I don't know what they are like http://www.countrypetmotel.com/kennels.html http://www.imparra.com.au/index.html http://www.whiteroseboardingkennels.com/
  24. I have read it and was hooked almost immediately ... had to keep reading until I had finished
