  2. I have the heavy duty turbo chook ... and my youngest absolutely loves it. We are almost due for our third one soon ... but I might need to get a new clothes line to go with it
  3. I still have my rottie on my phone ... even though it has been almost 4 years (18-06-2007). I do love my new phone because it has 3 seperate screens ... one for each dog (with my rottie boy still on the front)
  4. Yes you can use the dishwasher ... I don't have one so I use the Kong brush to scrub it clean inside and then soak it in a solution of Milton before rinsing well.
  5. Both ... but mornings are getting harder
  6. This was the response I got from Qld Transport ...
  7. I find chicken and pumpkin works faster the chicken and rice ... I normally take a breast of chicken and slice it up, dice up some pumpkin and cook them both together with just a touch of salt reduced chicken stock and some water ... once cooked just mash up the pumpkin & shred the chicken a bit and serve when cooled sufficiently. I also sprinkle an Inner Health Plus capsule over the meal ... I use them so there is usually always some in the fridge.
  8. Agree ... but I think they should also have to sit a test before they have kids too .... ;)
  9. The dog has probably been handed food and not corrected for snatching. Depends what you want to do about it ... an hours isn't long but you could discuss with the owner about helping train the dog (if the owners agree) ... or just not eat when the dog is visiting. When my boys get fed they have to go to their places and only then do they get their food. So if you wanted to work on training the dog you could start by trying to teach the dog a "place" command ... maybe a mat or a bed.
  10. They didn't seem to have photos of the cute puppy ear stage ...
  11. Mine sticks his head in up to the eye balls (or higher) and just opens his mouth ....
  12. Found this document on the Transport website: http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/a29dbb0c-740e-4df0-b0a3-18892c3033f5/pdf_road_rules_qanda_290909.pdf
  13. I brought a Styptic pencil for the birds ... but have used cornflour or soap ...
  14. it breaks your heart when you realise the time is near. With our rottie he was doing so well ... then suddenly he went downhill barely moving off his bed. He lost interest in his food and even his favourite squeaky toys. For 2 days I cried my eyes out and willed him to get better but looking into his eyes I just knew he was tired and wanted to go. As much as I loved him - I realised I loved him too much to see him suffer any more ... so he got his wings while he layed in my arms and I was telling him how much I loved him. It is hard but you will know deep inside when it is time ...
  15. If both dogs are home ... the youngest runs to his puppy pen and sits inside when I bring out the food treats. He is used to being put in his puppy pen to eat (older dog is food agressive so they are fed seperately) ... so he thinks if he is already waiting then he will get it sooner. My boys are not very food motivated ...
  16. I expected to take my pets with me ... they should be entitled to a place in heaven as much as any human. ;)
  17. My youngest is very high energy. Twice a day I take the him to the off-leash park (when it is empty) and give him a good run around. We then do some training and then a walk. We then come back to the park and do some more training and another good run around before walking home again. Two or three time a week a friend takes him running (about 7km). He goes swimming and hiking for 30 min to 45 min once or twice a month.
  18. I consider my youngest to be crate trained ... even through he he doesn't willing go into the crate - unless he is asked. Once in the crate he is relaxed and happy. In comparison our older dog isn't crate trained and becomes frustrated and cranky when confined - he will cry and bark and becomes distressed - even forcing his way out of the crate/cage.
  19. We had a rottie previously who still brings a tear to my eye now even through we lost him in 2007 - we had a fantastic bond which only got better towards then end. We got a GSD puppy in 2005 who I have never honestly really bonded with. Don't get me wrong - I do love him but I have never really felt a great connection too him. I think part of this was because of the connection I had with our rottie. We then got another GSD puppy in 2009 ... I didn't bonded with him immediately - but it has definately grown over the time. I think the fact he was so cute really helped - but the constant vocalisation didn't. While I still refer to him as the brat etc - I am definately as attached to him as he is to me - but more so now then when he was younger. Doesn't mean I don't want to kill him sometimes or curse the day we got him ... actually I am dreading going home at the moment because I don't want to see what destruction he has caused while I have been away on a course. The routine changed a bit yesterday because my brother is away on holidays and I am leaving earlier to get to the course. Yesterday it was a bent star picket (they couldn't pull it out of the ground so it was bent at a 90 degree angle!!! and a destroyed bed) ...
  20. I give my boys peanut butter in their kong etc ... so I assume whole peanuts are ok
  21. My older boy absolutely loves his cuz squeaky toys ... as soon as the squeaker breaks they are dumped and completely ignored. The youngest boy absolutely loves his turbo chook ... so much so that we are now on our second one ... and it will need replacing again soon - along with the clothes line it is attached too. One toy both boys also like is a simple piece of rope with soft drink bottles threaded along it. They play tug, drag and chew this toy all the time.
  22. I had a "gate" put in the back of my hatch back - it was custom made from a security screen. If needed you could then put a cargo barrier between the driver and the back. I had the same problem of the largest crate that could fit in my little car just wasn't big enough for my dogs.
  23. When they put our rottie to sleep - they set it up like they were putting in a drip and double checked they were in a vein before they gave him the injection. Making the decision is pts is painful enough without it not going smoothly and causing more distress ...
  24. Normally the fill-in-vets don't tend to get too close to my dogs ... I had one poor vet shaking so much I had to ask him if he needed help getting the needle in the little vac bottle. It is probably something about the big red DANGEROUS - DOG BITES across the top of their printouts ... and the cranky dog snarling at them from behind the muzzle. The vet nurses are normally lovely and do warn the new vets about the boys. But normal "vaccination visits" usually have a temp and heart check along with some general questions about the dogs health before they vaccinate. I would have thought it was good practice to simply ask "do you mind if I check him over" before starting to physically touch someones dog ... but I guess we have had a similar issue before with one of our dogs where they lady vet thought every dog loved her. Despite being told numerous times not to touch the dog without letting us know first - she received a muzzle hit (dog was muzzled and held by the collar so it was only his head) from our rottie that knocked her flying back across the room and left an intent of her back in the wall. She didn't learn ... so after the second incident ... we found another vet who worked with security and police dogs.
  25. No I don't use one. A properly fitted prong collar should not come apart but that said it never hurts to have a back up Steve from K9 Pro sells DD collars and will be able to give you advice on how to fit one. http://www.k9pro.com.au/products/Stabilisation-Collar.html Another alternative is to use a small halter connector strap to connect the dead ring of the prong collar to the dogs flat collar. http://www.blackdog.net.au/index.php?page=...rt&Itemid=5 Totally agree with a properly fitted prong shouldn't come apart ... My prong collars have quick lease clips (one scissor clip and a normal snap clip) - as I hated having to use the links to get it on and off. Our collars are the "heavy duty" version so it can be very difficult to get the links together again. It was the snap clip that failed for me ... but I have heard of some prong collars failing which have resulted on the dog running free. For me - the DD collar is a light weight safety back-up which I never leave home without. I brought mine from K9 Pro.
